Getting Cold

A strong high pressure will continue to bring dry and cold weather into the area. Tuesday will feature sunny skies and highs near freezing. Wednesday will be similar and temps on New Year's Eve will fall to near 20 along with a breeze. It will stay cold through the end of the week.

The Week Ahead

A colder week is ahead as temps will hold in the 30's for most of the week. Monday will feature a mix of sun and clouds and temps near 40. Tuesday and Wednesday will be similar with temps around freezing. Then New Year's Day will also be cold and dry.

Cold Front

A cold front will cross the area on Sunday leading to scattered rain showers. Behind the front temps will fall into the 30's for early next week. There is also a chance for some snow by Tuesday-but at this point out to sea.

Wet And Wild

A powerful storm will hit the area on Christmas Eve into Christmas day. It will bring heavy rain, gusty winds and even a chance of a thunderstorms. And temps will rise close to 60 by Christmas morning. It will clear out behind the storm, but temps will remain mild.

Christmas Eve: Periods of rain in the evening, then showers with scattered thunderstorms after midnight. Temps rising to near 60. SE wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH.


Christmas Day: Merry Christmas everyone! Rain showers early, then partial clearing. Temps in the low 60's in the morning, then temps falling into the 50's. West wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH.

Wet Times

The next few days will be wet as back to back areas of low pressure hit the area. On Tuesday the rain will be steadiest in the morning, then will taper to showers in the afternoon. On Wednesday the height of rain and wind will be in the afternoon or evening. And on Christmas Day rain will continue into the morning hours, before the sun peaks out in the afternoon.

Holiday Week

Monday will feature a lot of clouds and a passing rain or snow shower. Then, an area of low pressure will track south of the region giving us some rain Monday night into Tuesday. On Christmas Eve a powerful storm will track to our west giving us heavy rains and strong winds. It should dry out for Christmas Day.

Little Snow

It now appears that snow showers will fall overnight, but it won't amount to much in Boston. Sunday will be cloudy with a passing snow shower. Monday will be dry, then some rain is possible by Tuesday. And then a powerful storm will hit the area on Christmas Eve.

Tonight: Cloudy with scattered snow showers. Low 32. NE wind of 10-20 MPH. Snow may coat the ground.

Sunday: Cloudy with scattered snow showers in the morning, then cloudy in the afternoon. High 36. NE wind of 10-20 MPH.

Monday: Mostly cloudy with highs in the low 40's.

Tuesday: Rain possible. Highs around 40.

Christmas Eve: Rain and wind likely. Highs in the 50's.

Some Snow

A NE wind will create a little ocean effect snow this weekend. Snow showers will fall late on Saturday, through the night and into Sunday morning. However, it will only lead to minor amounts of snow. Monday will be cloudy before a little precip on Tuesday. And then we watch a powerful storm for Christmas eve.

Headed Home!

Friday will feature some sun along with temps in the 30's for my drive home for the Holidays. On Saturday clouds will increase and some precip is likely late in the day and at night. The storm on Sunday will likely head out to sea leaving us with dry conditions.

A front will come into the area overnight and Wednesday leading to rain showers through the morning. It should dry out for the afternoon, but some precip is likely Wednesday night as another front crosses the area. Thursday and Friday should be dry and chilly.

Some Showers

Clouds will increase tonight and some drizzle or freezing drizzle is possible. Tuesday will be a mainly cloudy day and the rain will hold off until after dark. Rain showers will continue into Wednesday before tapering off. Skies will clear for Thursday and Friday.

Finals Week

I have finals this week so work comes first. I will blog when I have time. On Monday it will be a sunny with temps in the low 40's. On Tuesday a front will approach the area leading to increasing clouds and rain at night into Wednesday morning. It should dry out for the rest of the week.

Nor'easter Forecast

A powerful nor'easter will hit the area with heavy precip and strong winds. In Boston it will be mainly rain, but it may start out as some wintry mix. A couple inches of rain is likely on Tuesday and Tuesday night leading to some flooding . The strongest winds will occur in the afternoon and evening-including in Boston. And, the NE wind will lead to minor coastal flooding. Then the storm will stall near the area leading to off and on rain for days.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for parts of Northern and Western New England. Over a foot of snow is possible in some areas.

A Stormy Week

Clouds will increase on Monday with a snow shower possible. Then a powerful nor'easter will hit the area for a few days. The storm will bring heavy rains and strong winds to the Boston area. The height of the storm will be Tuesday, but rain will continue off and on for days.

Skies will clear overnight and into the day on Thursday. As temps on Thursday will struggle to reach 40. Clouds will increase on Friday ahead of our next storm. It looks like mainly rain Friday night into Saturday, but it may start as wintry mix.

World Weather: A super typhoon with winds of 180 MPH will hit the Philippines in a few days.

Storm Update

Any wintry mix in Boston has changed to rain and rain will continue overnight and into first thing Wednesday morning. Partial clearing is possible in the afternoon on Wednesday and temps will rise into the 50's. Then a cold front will cross the area bringing colder air back into New England.

I expect that precip will start as a brief period of snow or sleet in Boston before quickly changing to rain. The rain will continue overnight and into Wednesday morning before ending. Thursday and Friday look cold and dry at this point.

Monday will be another warm day with sunny skies. Then a sharp cold front will cross the area on Monday night leading to a colder Tuesday. Then a storm will hit the area on Wednesday- at this time looks like mainly rain. It should dry out for the end of the week.

Warmer Times

A warm front will cross the area tonight leading to warmer Sunday. As temp will rise into the 50's along with some sun. Monday will also be warm before a cold front comes through by Tuesday. The next storm is possible on Wednesday.

Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy. Temps around 28 this evening will rise to 35 by dawn.

Sunday: Partly to mostly cloudy. High 52. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Sunday night: Partly to mostly cloudy with lows in the mid 40's.

Snow has started in Boston this evening and keep falling into Friday morning. A few inches seem likely. And then Friday afternoon will feature clearing skies and colder temps. Friday night will be very cold and then Saturday will be chilly and sunny. Temps will warm on Sunday.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The rain fell most of the day here in Boston with some sleet mixed in. And the sleet did coat the ground in the Boston area. Now as the precip ends colder air will come back into the area leading to some snow that may coat the ground. And some places inland did receive several inches of snow. Looking ahead Thanksgiving day will be cold with a flurry possible. Then an other weak area of low pressure may bring a bit of snow Thursday night into Friday morning.

Storm Update

A nor'easter will hit the area with rain, snow and wind on Wednesday. It will start out as rain in the morning and gradually change to snow in the afternoon. And some sleet is possible as well during the transition. The snow will fall heavily in the evening before tapering off overnight. It seems that a few inches of snow is possible in Boston. However, it will be a very close call. And at least 6 inches will fall in inland locations and some may receive close to a foot of snow.

Nor'easter Forecast

Tuesday will be another mild day with temps nearing 60. Then a powerful nor'easter will hit the area on Wednesday. At this point it looks like it will start out as rain in Boston in the morning before gradually changing to snow by late in the storm. A few inches seem likely in Boston with more snow inland. It should dry out in time for Thanksgiving day.

Warm Sunday

Some light precip is possible tonight as a weak front comes through. Sunday will feature a mix of sun and clouds and warmer temps. Then a storm will head to our west and give us a mild rain and wind. Tuesday will also be mild before we watch another storm on Wednesday.

Saturday will be a bit warmer with temps in the 40's along with sunny skies. Overnight Saturday night a front may bring a bit of freezing drizzle creating some slippery spots. Sunday will be warmer and then rain arrives at night and lasts into Monday.

Another Cold Day

Friday will be another cold day with sunny skies and temps holding in the mid 30's along with a gusty wind. Saturday will be a bit warmer with temps in the 40's, and then temps on Sunday will rise to near 50. A rain storm is likely by Monday.

A Bit Warmer

A front will cross the area tonight leading to a passing snow shower. Behind the front temps will rise to near 40 on Thursday along with a gusty breeze. Friday will be colder again with temps struggling to reach freezing. Over the weekend temps will start to moderate a bit.

A Frigid Forecast

Cold and windy weather will continue over the next few days. On Wednesday wind chills will be as low as 10 in the morning and afternoon highs will only rise into the mid 30's along with sunny skies. On Thursday a weak front may give a snow shower along with cold temps. It will remain cold through Friday.

Skies will clear allowing cold air to come into the area along with a gusty wind. Tuesday will be sunny and cold with temps holding near freezing. The cold will last through the end of the week with a chance of a passing snow shower by Thursday.

Rain has started this evening in the Boston area and will gradually change to snow over the next few hours. The wet snow will continue into mid morning and may accumulate in some areas. After the snow ends, skies will clear and temps will remain cold. The weekend will also be cold, but it looks like a rain event at this point for Monday.

The Front Arrives

Low clouds and fog will come into the area overnight and into Wednesday morning. Then an arctic front will cross the area on Wednesday evening with a few showers possible. Behind the front temps will hold in the 40's on Thursday. And then a weak system may give us some rain and snow showers late on Thursday night into Friday morning.

A Nice Veterans Day

Veterans Day will be another nice day with sunny skies and temps nearing 60. Then a powerful cold front will cross the area on Wednesday with rain showers possible. Colder air will come in behind the front and some snow is possible by Friday.

US Weather: Some areas in the northern plains saw a 50 degree temp drop over the past day. And some parts of the area saw over a foot of snow!

Rain will continue off and on through Sunday morning. And as colder air works in it will mix with snow at times. But, no accumulation is expected. Nor'easter Update

Well the storm has intensified a little more than expected tonight leading to thunderstorms and damaging winds. The storm will rage for the rest of the night as bands of rain continues to come into the Boston area. On Thursday the rain will continue to fall, but it will taper off by afternoon. And the wind will continue to gust-especially during the morning. It will dry out by Friday, but the sun won't return until the weekend.

Nor'easter Forecast

An area of low pressure will form along the coast and then come into New England and stall for a few days. That will lead to periods of rain and wind from Tuesday into Friday. However, the heaviest looks to be on Wednesday into Thursday. A few inches of rain is likely over that time. But, several inches is possible in parts of Maine. And the wind won't be a big issue in most areas.

Colder air will come into New England on Sunday along with a gusty wind. The day will start out cloudy, but the sun will return in the afternoon. Sunday night will be very cold and frost is likely in most areas overnight. Monday will be dry before a powerful nor'easter makes a close pass to the area and then stalls for the midweek.

Tropics: Hurricane Gonzalo is now hammering Bermuda with hurricane force winds and coastal flooding. It will make a close pass to Atlantic Canada on Saturday before racing out to sea.

Rain Ending

The heaviest rain has ended and clearing will come into the area by morning. Friday will stay warm behind the front along with some sun. Saturday will also be warm before another cold front comes through late in the day. Then Sunday will be much colder. And, Hurricane Gonzalo has winds of 140 MPH as it heads for Bermuda on Friday and then to Atlantic Canada. As it will bring major damage to the island of Bermuda.

Tracking Gonzalo

A powerful front along with an area of low pressure will cross the area on Thursday leading to gusty downpours. The front will cross the area on Thursday night and will help push major Hurricane Gonzalo out to sea and towards Atlantic Canada over the weekend. Here in the Boston area colder air will gradually come into the area by the end of the weekend.

Hurricane Gonzalo

Hurricane Gonzalo now has winds of 125 MPH NE of Puerto Rico. It will continue to head north and gain strength. Then it will make a very close pass to the island of Bermuda and will continue north towards Atlantic Canada. However, as a front comes in from the west it may grab some moisture from the Hurricane and bring extra moisture into New England as the front crosses Thursday night.
And, there may be some wind but the core of Gonzalo looks to stay offshore at this point.

Tropics: TS Fay now has winds of 70 MPH as it heads towards Bermuda. We should also watch a wave behind that is expected to develop.

Long Weekend Update

Rain will arrive on Saturday and will last into the early afternoon. Behind the storm skies will clear on Sunday and temps will respond on Sunday. Columbus day looks dry also and then a warm up is likely by Tuesday.

Boston forecast:

Tonight: Increasing clouds. Low 45.

Saturday: Periods of rain until 1 PM, then mostly cloudy. High 55. NE wind of 10-20 MPH.

Saturday night :Clear and chilly. Lows in the low 40's.

Sunday: Mostly sunny with highs around 60.

Columbus Day: Sunny with highs in the low 60's.

Tuesday: Sunny with highs in the 60's.

Tropics: Fay has formed this evening with winds of 60 MPH and will head towards Bermuda and then out to sea. But we will need to watch the tropical wave further east in the Atlantic that is expected to develop.

SPECIAL: New England Columbus Day Weekend Forecast

The fall foliage is peaking across most of New England this weekend and will continue to expand into Boston over the next few weeks. This is a forecast for the weekend for the northern lakes and mountains region where the foliage is peaking now or just past peak. I will also give my regular weekend forecast for the Boston area. On Friday clouds will increase in the Boston area, but stay sunny up north. Then rain will expand into Southern New England on Saturday morning before drying out. However, the rain will not reach Northern New England. Sunday and the holiday itself look dry throughout the area.

Northern Lakes And Mountains foliage report:

The highest peaks have already lost most of their leaves, but in most areas the reds and oranges are still great. This weekend will be great for leaf peeping. In the next week more leaves will fall and it will become less colorful.

Boston area foliage report:

The area is still green in some areas-especially close to the city. However, over the next couple of weeks more color will expand into the city. As, the next 10 days to 2 weeks will be the peak of the laves before more leaf drop starts.

Forecast Update

Thursday will be sunny with temps in the 60's along with a breeze. Clouds will increase on Friday before an area of low pressure comes close to the area on Saturday. It should dry out for the rest of the holiday weekend.

Wild Wednesday

A strong front will cross the area on Wednesday morning leading to showers and thunderstorms. And some thunderstorms could be severe with damaging winds, hail and even an isolated tornado. Behind the front it will stay windy, but the sun should return in the afternoon. Thursday and Friday now look dry before a chance for more rain by Saturday.

Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy until 5 AM, then showers with scattered severe thunderstorms. Low 60. South wind of 15-25 MPH. Some thunderstorms will produce damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes.

Wednesday: Showers with scattered severe thunderstorms until 10 AM, then becoming sunny. High 75. South wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH. Some thunderstorms will produce damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes.

Tropics: Super Typhoon Vongsong now has winds of 180 MPH as it heads towards Japan over the next several days.

Scattered Storms

Clouds will increase and showers are possible on Tuesday as a warm front comes through. On Tuesday night and Wednesday morning a strong storm system will bring showers and storms. And, some storms could be severe. It should dry out by Thursday.

The Week Ahead

Monday will be a sunny day with temps once again in the mid 60's. On Tuesday clouds will increase and showers are possible by late in the day. Showers may linger into Wednesday before drying out. Thursday will be dry also before a chance for more rain by Friday.

Clearing Skies

Rain will end tonight and clearing will come into the area. Sunday will be sunny and breezy with highs in the 60's. Monday will be dry before a front comes into the area on Tuesday.

Strong Front

A strong front will come into the area on Saturday leading to showers in the afternoon and overnight. It will clear out on Sunday along with temps in the mid 60's. Monday also looks good before a chance for more rain by Tuesday.
