Snow Update

Snow has been falling heavily in the Boston area over the last few hours. However, warmer air will eventually come into Boston and will change it over to rain. But, before that happens several inches of snow are likely in Boston. Then, after the precip stops a freeze up is expected.

Alerts;

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the Boston area until 1 PM Sunday.

 A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect south of Boston

A High Wind Warning is in effect for the Cape and Islands for gusts to 60 MPH there.

Storm Timeline: For Boston

Now-4 AM: Heavy snow continues. Temps rise to freezing in Boston. East wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH.

4AM-8 AM: Snow changes to sleet and then rain. Temps rise to 38. East wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH.

8AM- Noon: Rain tapers off. Temps hold near 38.

Sunday afternoon: Some sunny breaks possible as temps fall to 27. Wind changing to NW at 15-25 MPH. A flash freeze possible. 

Snow Totals:
4-8 Inches: In Boston

8-12+ Inches; NW suburbs of Boston-some areas will get more than a foot.

12-18 Inches; Parts of NH and ME.

Rest of forecast:

Sunday night: Clearing and cold. Lows in the teens.

Monday: Sunny with highs in mid 20's.

Tuesday: PM snow likely. Highs in the upper 20's. Stay tuned!
