A Mix
Well, snow has changed to rain here in JP, cutting back on snow totals. As my rain/snow line forecast was a little off. Snowstorm Saturday
A storm will ride up the coast and give Boston its first significant snowstorm of the season. Flakes will start to fly around noontime and continue well into the night. The wind won't be a big issue, meaning coastal flooding won't be major. Sunday will dry out and be cold as well.

Dry for Now

Happy Thanksgiving

Dry For Travel
One of the biggest travel days of the year will be dry here in New England. Most of the country will also be dry, except for a storm in the Pacific Northwest. Thanksgiving will feature more sunshine with temps in the 50's. Friday will be the warmest of the week before a cold front comes thru.

Calm Weather
A storm well to our SE will increase the clouds over the area leading to partly sunny skies on Tuesday. Wednesday will feature more clouds, but dry for travel all over the NE. Thanksgiving will also be a nice day with more sunshine and temps near normal..

Thanksgiving Week
High pressure will continue to protect New England right thru Thanksgiving week, Temps will gradually warm up throughout the week, with temps reaching above normal by the end of the week. The biggest travel day of the year - Wednesday will be dry with temps in the 50's. It will be fine for travel over all of the Northeast.

Snow has been falling in the Boston area this evening-with some reports of up to 5 inches west of Boston. In Boston an earlier mix of rain and snow has changed over to snow over the last few hours. Snow may amount to an inch or so in Boston, but more not too far to the west. The precip will be off and on thru the night and most of the day tomorrow.

A storm will come up the coast and give us a mix of rain and some snow. Some ocean effect rain or snow showers will arrive in the morning, before steady precip arrives in the afternoon. It may even start with a brief burst of snow around Boston before changing to rain. The snow may coat the grass in and around Boston, with more possible out around central MA. The wind will gust over 50 MPH in some areas leading to scattered power outages, but not as much as Sandy last week.

Nor'easter Ahead

Back to Normal
What is left of Sandy is still stalled over the Northeast leading to some clouds over the next few days. By the weekend the remains of Sandy will lift into Canada leading to a NW flow and colder temps.

Storm Update
Winds have picked up today along with pockets of light rain. Winds will begin to ramp up first thing in the morning, then the height of the storm will be Monday afternoon. Winds may gust close to hurricane force in some areas leading to widespread power outages. High waves will also cause major coastal flooding in some south coastal locations. I highly suggest that you stay inside during the height of the storm because of the danger of downed power lines.

Storm Timeline
Hurricane Sandy will make landfall in Central New Jersey on Monday as a Cat 1 Hurricane. That will lead to a major impact here in the Boston area. The peak of the storm will during the day on Monday with heavy rain and strong winds. However, the heaviest rain will fall to our south- in the NYC to Washington corridor. The seas will also build offshore leading to severe coastal flooding over many tide cycles along the coast.

Sandy Forecast
Sandy now has winds of 75 MPH, making it a minimal Category 1 Hurricane. The latest track still sends it into NJ as a strong Tropical Storm or minimal Hurricane. That would still lead to a major impact here in the Boston area. Conditions would start to worsen by late Sunday and not improving until Tuesday night. Now is the time to prepare for the storm! Bring any items that may blow away, and clear leaves from any storm drains to help the flooding.

Track of Sandy
Hurricane Sandy now has winds of 100 MPH, making it a Cat 2. The latest track sends it North up the eastern seaboard, but then turning NW into NJ on Monday as a Strong TS or minimal Hurricane. So, it seems more probable that we will get some effects from Sandy. This track would not be the worst case scenario, but it would still gives strong winds and heavy rain. Impact Likely
Hurricane Sandy now has winds of 85 MPH, but it is intensifying south of Cuba. The latest track has a path through the Bahamas as a Hurricane. It will then come up the east coast this weekend making a very close pass to New England if not a direct hit on Monday seems very possible. At the point it comes up here it could be a Hurricane or an extra tropical major nor'easter. Either way the effects could be damaging. Stay tuned for further updates.

Tracking Sandy
Tropical Storm Sandy still has winds of 50 MPH. However, it is expected to become a Hurricane overnight as it heads towards Jamaica. It will then cross Cuba and head towards the Bahamas towards Friday. After that it becomes tricky. One reliable model sends it out to sea, the other sends it into New England by Monday as a historic nor'easter. At this point either solution is possible.

Tropical Storm Sandy
Tropical Storm Sandy has formed south of Jamaica with winds of 45 MPH. The latest track sends it across Jamaica and Cuba over the next few days . And then late in the week it will pass over the Bahamas After that it is still up in the air, but there is a chance it could come up the east coast and make a close pass to New England early next week. 900th Post!!!
This is my 900th post since I started my blog a few years ago. And, I plan on continuing my blog thru the upcoming winter and beyond! I will blog as often as I can from PSU-but my studies come first. As for the weather Thursday will be another nice fall day with highs in the 60's. Then, a storm will give us rain Friday into Saturday.

New England Earthquake!
An earthquake has it New England tonight with a magnitude of 4.0 at around 710 PM. It was originally estimated at 4.6, but it was later downgraded. The epicenter was just outside of Portland, ME in a town called Hollis Center. We felt it here in Plymouth, NH at Plymouth State University. The apartment shook for a couple of seconds as the earthquake hit. The quake was felt all over New England, but thankfully no major damage has been reported.

Showers tonight
A cool front will come thru tonight leading to widespread showers. Temps will be cooler on Tuesday behind the front with a west wind. But, temps will rebound on Wednesday and Thursday along with sunny skies. More rain is likely by late Friday.

Widespread Frost

Freeze Watch
A Freeze Watch has been issued for Friday night for the entire Boston area. So, bring in any plants that could be killed. As a cold front will come thru the area with just a shower possible, but it will drop the temps in the afternoon. After a cold start Saturday will turn out to be a great fall day. It will turn out warmer on Sunday.

Bright and Breezy

Warmer Tuesday
High pressure will continue to dominate the weather for Tuesday as temps rise into the 70's. A weak front may give a shower or 2 on Wednesday. Temps will fall back into the 60's for the end of the week.

First Full Week of Fall
More clouds will gather on Monday and it will be cooler. Tuesday will rebound into the 70's, and Wednesday will be the only day with a chance for wet weather during the week. It will be cool again late week.

Happy Fall!
Fall begins on Saturday at 1049 AM! The first weekend of fall will be warmer than the past few days with highs mainly in the 70's. However, there will be a threat for a shower overnight Saturday night and early Sunday. But, the sun will come out during the day on Sunday.

Storm Alerts
The heaviest rain has held off for the most part near Boston today, but the wind has been increasing. Later, a squall line will come thru tonight with the threat of damaging winds. There is the potential for severe thunderstorms as well as the line comes thru. The worst of the storm should be over by the morning drive.

Severe Storms
A stray storm this evening has come into Boston, but it should end quickly. On Saturday a cold front will come into the area leading to more scattered severe storms late. The height of the storms should be overnight Saturday night. So, it should dry out by Sunday afternoon.

Tracking Leslie
Hurricane Leslie now has winds of 75 MPH, making it a Cat 1 Hurricane. The latest track has the storm making a very close pass to Bermuda this weekend as a major Hurricane. Then, the latest track sends Leslie well east of New England on Monday-making landfall in Atlantic Canada. Stay tuned for any changes in the track over the next few days.
As for the next few days, it will dry out over the next few days before a cool front brings rains over the weekend.
