Happy New Year!

 Happy 2024 everyone and thanks for checking out my blog. I wish everyone a happy and healthy year! I plan to write as often as I can through 2024 and beyond. 2024 will start out with mostly cloudy skies and a flurry. The sun will return for  midweek before possible snow by Thursday.

 Skies will finally clear for New Year's eve and New Year's Day along with near normal temps. For First Night temps will near freezing  with some clouds. It will remain dry through the middle of the week with our next storm chance waiting until Thursday.

Rainy Days

Friday will feature scattered showers and cold temps. Temps will cool even more by Saturday leading to a chance of a few flakes to mix in.

More Rain

Rain will fall heavily over the next 36 hours or so before tapering off to showers. The height of the rain will be in the morning and temps will be held in the 40's. Showers will linger into Friday as well and clearing could be slow over the weekend.

Holiday Weekend Forecast

 Saturday will feature an increase in clouds and temps near average. Then a weak front will bring scattered mixed showers late Saturday night into Sunday morning. It should dry out for Santa and the sun will return on Christmas Day.

Ocean Effect Snow

 Clouds will increase on Tuesday ahead of our next  weather maker.  A wind off the ocean combined with a storm offshore will bring scattered snow showers to the coast Tuesday night into Wednesday. It could amount to a small accumulation in Boston. Then, after temps warm later this week a powerful storm could bring heavy rain and damaging winds by Sunday.

SPECIAL: 2023-2024 Winter Forecast

 After  a lot of thought and review here is my forecast for the upcoming Winter. I expect this winter to feature above average snow and near average temps. Snow will fall early and often as our stormy pattern continues. Although, I do expect some storms to miss us to the south as well. And temps should vary a lot, but average out to near normal by the end of the winter. So, here is my month by month breakdown of the upcoming Winter!

 A storm will bring mostly a heavy wind driven rain to the area tonight into Wednesday morning. The afternoon should improve for holiday travel. Then Thanksgiving looks dry and the dry weather will last through the upcoming weekend as well.

Storm Forecast

 A powerful storm will impact the area from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon. It may start as  a brief period of snow, but then will quickly change to heavy rain. And the wind will pick up as well. The height of the storm will be Wednesday morning.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny in the morning, then increasing clouds in the afternoon. High 40. East wind of 10-20 MPH.

10 PM: Rain possibly mixed with wet snow arrives. Temp 37. SE wind of 15-25 MPH. No snow accumulation expected in greater Boston. 

Midnight: Any snow changes to rain. Temps rising to 40.

Storm Ahead

 Monday will be a sunny but cold day as high pressure briefly comes in. Then clouds will increase during the day on Tuesday ahead of our storm. The storm will bring a mix of rain, snow and wind to the area. It may start as snow close to the city, but will quickly change to a wind-driven soaking rain. Up to 2 inches of rain is possible. The storm should come to an end by Wednesday afternoon.

Just A Graze

 It now appears that the storm will travel mostly out to sea leading to just scattered showers and a gusty wind this weekend. It will turn cold early next  week before our next potential storm arrives by Tuesday. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer.

 The next few days will be great with mainly sunny skies and very warm temps. The heat will peak on Saturday as will challenge the record of 81. Then a strong cold front will cross the region on Sunday bringing rain and cooler temps. Cold air will finally come into New England behind the front.

 Warm air will come into New England over  the next several days. As temps will rise into the mid 70's, which is about 15 degrees above normal. And by Saturday temps are expected to climb to near 80 along with some humidity..

Friday: Mostly sunny with highs in the mid 70's. 

Saturday: Sunny and humid for this time of year. Near record warmth with highs around 80. 

Sunday: Mainly cloudy and much cooler. Highs in the mid 60's. 

Tropics: Hurricane Otis in the East Pacific has rapidly strengthened today. As winds have increased by 80 MPH in just 12 hours as it now has winds of 145  MPH. That is the fastest a Hurricane has ever intensified in the East Pacific ocean!

Solar Eclipse

 A partial solar eclipse will be visible in the Boston area tomorrow. The peak will between noon and 2 PM with the most coverage at 132 PM. The sun will be covered about 20 to 30 percent. The forecast should provide some clearing on Saturday and  Sunday now looks good as well. Rain is possible early next week.

Tropical Storm Phillippe

 The latest track of the storm has dramatically shifted west for the end of the week and weekend. It may make a very close pass to New England. While a front from the west will try to push it out to sea at the same time. Stay tuned for track updates.

 Hurricane Lee still has winds of 80 MPH as it tracks around 150 miles east of New England on Saturday morning. That will bring some rain and strong winds to the area. The height of the storm will be late tonight into Saturday morning. And waves could be close to 30 FEET!

 Hurricane Lee will pass about 150 miles east of the Cape and Islands on Saturday morning bringing some rain and wind to the area. It now appears that most of the rain will stay offshore and the strongest winds will just graze the coastline.

 More rain is in for the forecast for Wednesday afternoon as a strong cold front comes through. Then after a dry Thursday and Friday Hurricane Lee will make a close pass to the region on Saturday. It is too soon to discuss possible impacts as the track is not set in stone. I hope to lock down the track by Thursday.

Major Hurricane Lee

 Major Hurricane Lee rapidly intensified today as it now it is a Category 4 Hurricane as of this time. But, I fully expect it to be a Category 5 by the time we wake up tomorrow. The latest track sends it north of Puerto Rico and will thankfully miss the Caribbean islands. Then it will turn to the north and could impact New England late  next week. Hurricane Franklin

 Hurricane Franklin is expected to strengthen into a major Hurricane and pass well offshore of the New England coast. However, a front will grab some moisture from the Hurricane and bring it up the coast into the area late Tuesday into Wednesday. And it may pass close enough to bring some wind as well.

 Rain will fall heavily at times on Friday as another area of low pressure comes through. More showers are likely into Saturday as the storm slows down. It should dry out for Sunday.

Tropics; It now appears that Hurricane  Franklin will go between Bermuda and the East Coast during the middle of next week, but that is still subject to change. We are also watching a storm in the Gulf that is expected to develop and will likely hit Florida and may come up the East coast later next week. Stay tuned!

Wild Weather

After a wild day of severe weather(details below), a quieter weekend is in store. Saturday will feature increasing clouds and an afternoon shower along with temps in the 70's. Then Sunday will warm into the 80's under sunny skies. And much of next week looks dry as well.

Severe Weather On Friday; 4 tornadoes have been confirmed in Southern New England on Friday. Including an EF2 Tornado in RI! As 1 tornado impacted cites just south of Boston leading to down trees and power outages. 

Major Hurricane Hillary; For the first time in their history Tropical Storm Watches are in effect for LA and San Diego as the Hurricane heads up the coast. Gusts over Hurricane Force are possible near the coast and in the higher elevations. And over a foot of rain is possible in parts of the Southwest as well. The height of the storms is expected to hit late Sunday into Monday. Stay tuned!
