Friday will be another day of low clouds, fog, mist and drizzle. New Year's Eve will be mainly dry and balmy. Then a storm will bring rain to the area on Saturday into Sunday.  As colder air comes into the area rain may end as a brief period of snow Sunday night.

 Another mainly cloudy day is in store on Thursday with an afternoon shower. New Year's Eve looks to be mainly dry, but cloudy as well. Then a powerful storm will impact the area over the weekend. Rian will fall heavily at times on New Year's Day. Rain may end as snow on Sunday as cold air comes crashing in.

An Icy Christmas

 Merry Christmas everyone and thanks for checking out my blog. A storm will bring freezing rain and rain to the area on Christmas Day. Freezing rain will last for several hours-even in Boston. A tenth of an inch of ice or more appears likely. North and West of Boston cold air could hold on much longer leading to ice most of the day. I suggest delaying travel  as ice will coat roads and sidewalks.

 A warm week is ahead for mid December with mainly dry conditions. As High Pressure takes control over the Eastern US.

This Day In Weather History:  On  December 13th, 2007 snow started falling in the early afternoon in the Boston area and amounted to about 10 inches in a short amount of time. Most people, including my High School was let out at the same time leading to terrible traffic on the roads. It took me over 6 hours to get from my school in Brighton to my house in JP.  It took my parents almost 8 hours to get home from Cambridge!

Tornado Outbreak

 A series of Tornadoes have impact parts of the central part of the county last night killing dozens of people. In Mayfield, KY over 70 people are feared to be dead as of Saturday night.  The tornado hit 4 states and traveled over 250 miles! Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Kentucky tonight and pray for a speedy recovery.

Wild Weather Continues

A powerful storm will impact the area on Saturday. Precip may start as a period of freezing rain as a warm front comes into the area. Once the front moves north of the area, any ice will change to  rain. And the wind will begin to gust out of the South.

Saturday; Areas of freezing rain and  rain until 9 AM, then rain showers. Windy with a high of 63.  South wind increasing to 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH. Ice accumulation around a light glaze NW of Boston.

 It seems that the storm will just graze the area bringing areas of light snow to the area Wednesday evening to Wednesday night. Some minor accumulation is possible. After that another major warmup is expected by the weekend. And rain and wind is likely again as temps soar into the 60's.

Holiday Week Forecast

 Wednesday will start out very cold and windy, but temps will rise into the 40's by the end of the day. Then Thanksgiving Day will be warmer with increasing clouds leading to rain by Friday.

The Week Ahead

 A strong cold front will bring showers tonight into Monday morning. Then temps will crash and the wind will pick up, leading to very cold wind chills. As the coldest air of the season so far comes into the area. But, temps should moderate by Thanksgiving.

Tonight; Rain showers. Near steady temps around 53. South wind of 15-25 MPH. 

Monday; Rain showers in the morning, then mostly cloudy in the afternoon. Temps near 55 in the morning will fall to 45 by 5 PM. Wind changing to NW at 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Total Lunar Eclipse

 Warm weather will last for one day before a front moves in overnight. Unfortunately that will block a Total Solar Eclipse occurring around 3 AM on Friday morning. On Friday temps will fall back into the 40's. Then the weekend will be dry but cold.

Tonight; Mostly cloudy with  temps rising to 55. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Thursday: Partly sunny with a high of 70. SW wind of 15-25 MPH. 

Thursday night: Rain. Lows around 40. Total solar eclipse visible between 2AM and 5AM. However, the latest forecast has rain showers during that timeframe.

 Severe storms hit the area this afternoon as another strong cold front came through. Tornadoes were reported in parts of New England this evening. And severe storms hit the Boston area as well. Now, skies will clear and it will turn colder.

 A very powerful nor'easter will impact the area over the next 2 days. The storm will bring heavy rain, damaging winds and big waves. The height of the storm will be Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning. Power outages are expected-even in Boston.  I highly suggest staying off the roads tomorrow night.

 A backdoor cold front will cross the area on Friday leading to a cooler overnight  and Saturday. It will be cloudy and breezy as well. Then we need to watch a potential tropical system on Sunday into Marathon Monday.

 TS Odette formed at 5 PM today off the East Coast. However, is expected to turn NE and out to sea while brining a shower or 2 and a breeze to the Cape and Islands. After that a great stretch of weather will last into most of next week.

Remains Of Ida Forecast

 The remains of Ida will bring flooding rains, strong winds and even isolated tornadoes. The rain will arrive by mid afternoon on Wednesday and fall heavily through Thursday morning. Several inches of rain are likely. Flooding is the main concern in the Boston area.

 Tropical Depression Ida will track NE and bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the area Wednesday night into Thursday. Several inches of rain is likely through the day on Thursday. And the wind could gust past 40 MPH.

Tracking Ida

 Hurricane Ida made landfall in SE Louisiana with winds of 150 MPH. It caused major wind damage, floods and storm surge. A wind gust over 170 MPH was recorded. Now, the storm will track north and NE reaching us by mid week. It should bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the area.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with a low of 70. 

Monday; Mostly cloudy until 2 PM< then scattered showers and severe thunderstorms. High 88. SW wind of 10-20 MPH. Some storms may bring damaging winds and hail.

Ida Update

 Hurricane Ida is expected to become a major Hurricane and make landfall in Louisiana.  It is then going to track NE and bring flooding rains from the south all the way to New England by the middle of the week.

Hurricane Ida

 Hurricane Ida is expected to strengthen into a Category 4 Hurricane and slams the New Orleans area with flooding rains, destructive winds and dangerous storm surge on Sunday night. As for the local weather the weekend will be much cooler, but dry. Rain is expected by Monday.

TS Ida: TS Ida formed  this evening with winds of 40 MPH. It is expected to turn into a major Hurricane this weekend in the Gulf Of Mexico and threaten the Louisiana coast.

 Hurricane Henri now has winds of 75 MPH. It is expected to turn north and hit New England as a Category 1 Hurricane or a strong Tropical Storm. It will bring strong winds, flooding rains and storm surge. The height of the storm appears to be in the afternoon. Hurricane Warnings are in effect for parts of New England.

Henri Forecast

 Tropical Storm Henri still has winds of 70 MPH, It is expected to turn to the north and make landfall in New England. However, a turn to the NW at the last minute may save eastern New England. But, strong winds and rain are still likely. And a shift back east is still possible. And any wobble in the final track will make a big difference. Henri Impact Likely

 Tropical Storm Henri is expected to strengthen into a Hurricane on Friday. It will turn north and make an extremely close pass to the area on Sunday as a Category 1 Hurricane. At this the point the latest track is right over Cape Cod and the Islands. That would bring flooding rains, damaging winds and storm surge to the area. Stay tuned for further updates, watches  and warnings as conditions warrant.  And now is the time to start preparing for the Hurricane!

Tropical Storm Henri

 Tropical Storm Henri has formed near Bermuda in the last 24 hours. It now has winds of 65 MPH. It is now expected to drift west and then turn north this weekend. And will make a very close pass to New England on Sunday as a Hurricane. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer. Until then the remains of TS Fred will bring heavy rain on Thursday. And some drying is possible on Friday and Saturday.

 A major dangerous heatwave is ahead as High Pressure takes control. On Wednesday temps will reach the low to mid 90's. Then temps could reach the upper 90's on Thursday and Friday. And high humidity will make it feel even hotter.
