Blizzard Forecast

A major nor'easter will hit the area leading to heavy snow and damaging winds. The snow will arrive in the afternoon and will lead to a couple of inches through the evening. Then a brief lull is likely at a point Saturday night. And then the heavy snow and damaging winds will come into the area on Sunday morning. At that time the snow will fall at a few inches per hour. And, some coastal flooding is likely as well.

Alerts:

A Blizzard Warning is in effect from 7 PM Saturday until 1 PM for the Boston area.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect further west

A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect for the coast.

A Hurricane Force Wind Warning is in effect for the ocean!

Boston forecast:

Tonight: Clear and frigid. Lows near 2 BELOW in Boston and 8 BELOW in the suburbs.

Saturday morning; Increasing clouds with temps in the teens. NE wind of 10-20 MPH.

Storm Timeline:

1 PM: Snow arrives in Boston

4 PM: Steady snow arrives.  Temp 20.

5 PM-10 PM: Steady snow. NE wind of 15-25 MPH. Temp 25.

10 PM-1 AM: Snow tapers off for a brief period.

2 AM-2 PM Sunday: The blizzard hits hard. Heavy snow and damaging winds. Temps falling into the mid teens.

3 PM: Snow ends in Boston. Temps in the teens.

Snow Totals:

10-15+ Inches: In the Boston area. About a foot in JP! Some places may exceed 15 inches.

6-10 Inches: Further west

3-6 Inches: Parts of NW New England

Peak Wind Gusts:

75 MPH: Cape and Islands
60 MPH: Rest of coast-including Boston
50 MPH: Further inland

Coastal Flooding:

Moderate to Major: Parts of the north and south shores.

Minor: Boston harbor.
