Active Week
I am now back at Plymouth State University here in Plymouth, NH. Classes start Tomorrow as I start another term. First a cold front will cross the area tonight with scattered snow showers. Then, another shot of snow is likely early Tuesday as warm front comes thru. A bigger storm is possible late week.

Back To College
I am returning to Plymouth State University on Sunday for my second semester of Sophomore year. I look forward to another wonderful term. Also, I will continue to blog about the Boston weather from Plymouth, NH as often as I can. As for the weather, clouds will increase late Sunday ahead of a cold front. Snow showers will come thru late Sunday night, leading to a coating in some spots. More unsettled weather, but no big storms are ahead over the next several days.

After a burst of snow this evening, it has mainly changed to rain in Boston. Still, some more flakes are possible with no accumulation. Heavy rain will continue thru the morning with more showers for the rest of the day. It will be a mainly dry and warmer weekend.

Mainly Rain
Clouds will rule on Thursday ahead of our next storm. It may start as brief period of sleet or snow, but quickly turn to rain in Boston. By Friday morning an inch of rain is possible, and it should dry out by the afternoon. It should be above average again this weekend, and no major snowstorms are in sight.

Snowstorm Saturday
Snow showers will come thru the area tonight leading to an inch or 2. The snow will all be over by dawn and the sun will come out on Friday. The storm on Saturday is on us first thing in the morning lasting thru the day. However, the track off the storm has shifted a bit to the south as well as the most snow. So, at this point the heaviest snow will stay south of the city, but stay tuned for more track updates on Friday.

Nor'easter Thursday

SPECIAL:2011 YEAR IN REVIEW
2011 was a wild year with blizzards, tornadoes and Hurricanes throughout the United States, and the world. I will focus mainly on the weather here in Boston with a few exceptions. I will give a month by month breakdown of temps, precip and snow.
2011 Month by Month: Data from the NWS in Taunton
Jan 2011: The blizzard blitz!
Avg Temp: 28-1 deg below normal
Precip: 4.57 inches
Snow: 38.3 inches-3rd place all time snow in Jan and 6th snowiest month.
Feb: The snow continues.
Avg Temp: 31-1 below normal
Precip :4.57- Same as Jan!
Snow: 18.5 - 8 above normal
March: Avg month for temps
Avg Temp: 39-normal
Precip: 2.2-2 inches below normal
Snow: 1.3- 6 below normal
World: Intense Jap quake and Tsunami caused major damage there.
April: Warmer
Avg Temp: 50-2 above normal
Precip- 4.04-0.3 above normal
Snow: 1 inch-1 below normal
May: Tornadoes throughout the US- 2nd most in history.
Avg Temp: 59-1 above normal
Precip: 3.26- 0.2 below
US: The EF5 Alabama tornado claimed many lives and leveled a city.
June: Tornadoes in MA!
Avg Temp: 67-0.7 below normal
Precip: 4.7-1 inch above normal. Also many cloudy days with little precip.
Local: Tornadoes in the Springfield, MA area brings wild weather close to home. The EF3 tornado caused major damage in portions of central and western MA.
July: Hottest temp ever!
Avg Temp: 77-4 above normal!
Precip-2 - 1.5 below normal
Local: Hottest temp ever recorded at Logan of 103 on July 22!
August: Hurricane Irene
Temp: 74- 1 deg above normal
Precip: 7.75! - a whopping 4 inches above normal!
Irene: The center of the Hurricane made landfall in NJ and then passed right over NYC and into western MA. This caused hurricane forced winds on the south coast of New England and TS winds to the Boston area. A peak wind gust of 63 MPH in Boston with the heaviest rain in Western New England. This caused major damage in VT!
September:
Avg Temp: 67.-2 above normal
Precip: 4.4-about 1 inch below normal
October: Halloween Blizzard!
Avg Temp: 58! again 4 deg above normal - also record high of 87 on Oct. 9
Precip: 7 inch-about 2.5 above normal
Snow: 1 inch
Local: An early season nor'easter dumped over a foot of snow in some parts of the state with a mix of rain and snow around the city. Many records were shattered around New England.
November: Warmest autumn on record continues
Avg Temp: 51-7 Deg above normal!
Precip: 4.2- about normal

December: No snow and warmth
Avg Temp: 40- 6 deg above normal

The winter had 6o inches of snow-starting on Jan 1. 3rd snowiest on record.
In July the lowest high temp was 81 breaking the old record.
Note: The Autumn of 2011- Sept thru Nov. was the warmest on record! 58.9 deg beat the old record of 58.4 in 1931!

Weekend Warmup
A warm front will cross the area Friday morning leading to scattered flurries, and then a warmup. Temps on Saturday may hit 50 degrees as warmth surges up the East coast. Then, Sunday will again be above average as a storm heads well south of the area.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with a low of 25.
Friday: Cloudy with scattered flurries until 10 AM, then partly sunny. High 47. SW wind of 10-15 MPH. Stay tuned for my year in review!

Saturday: Partly to mostly sunny and warmer. Highs around 50!

Back Up
Winds will switch to the SW, bringing warmer air back into the area over the next few days. Temps will eventually rise back above normal, reaching close to 50 by Saturday. Also, the storm on Sunday is now a miss as the snow drought continues.

One Day Stand
Frigid air will come into the area tonight and lead to bitter wind chills Wednesday morning. Also, Clouds will increase in the afternoon with a flurry or 2 possible. Thursday will warm right back up with temps rising above freezing again. A storm is possible on Sunday.

Tonight: Clear and frigid. Lows near 10 in Boston, 8 in JP and 4 in the suburbs. West wind of 10-20 MPH.
Wednesday: Sunny in the morning, then increasing clouds with a flurry possible late. High 25. NW wind of 10-20 MPH. Wind chill values as low as 10 BELOW before 9 AM.
Wednesday night: Mostly cloudy with scattered flurries. Lows in the upper teens.
Thursday: Partly sunny with a flurry possible. Highs in the upper 30's.

Arctic Air
A strong cold front will come thru the area leading a blast of cold air. This will be the coldest air of the season so far, and will bottom out in the single numbers Tuesday night. Temps will rise again by the end of the week.

Tuesday: Sunny and cold. Temps near 28 in the morning will fall to 20 by 5 PM. NW wind of 15-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with a flurry possible. Very cold with highs in the low 20's.

Colder week
A weak system will come thru with a rain shower tonight, then behind the system cold air will come in. So, the coldest air of the season of the season so far will occur. Highs will be in the 20's with a biting wind. There are still no snow storms in sight.

Mom's Birthday: Happy Birthday to mom! Sunny and windy. Temps near 42 in the morning will fall to 36 by 4 PM. NW wind of 15-20 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Tuesday: Sunny with near steady temps in the mid 20's. Wind chills in the single digits.
