SPECIAL: 4th of July New England Weekend

The Boston area will have a string of hot and humid days this holiday weekend with a thunderstorm possible on Sunday. Temps will mainly be in the mid to upper 80's with rising humidity.

However, in Northern New England a shower is more probable on Friday and Sunday afternoon. Temps will hold in the upper 70's to the mid 80's thru the holiday weekend. It should be great for the fireworks Monday night.

Also, the Cape and Islands surrounded by water will be cooler and more clouds will be around. However, there is less of a chance of a damaging thunderstorm later Sunday. It will still be a great beach weekend on the Cape as water temps continue to rise.

Boston, MA area 4th of July Weekend:

Tonight: Clear and comfy. Lows near 63 in Boston, 60 in JP and 55 in the suburbs.

Friday: Partly to mostly sunny until 2 PM, then isolated showers. Highs near 78 in Boston and 81 inland. SE wind of 10-20MPH

Friday night: Partly cloudy with lows in the low 60's.

Saturday: Sunny and warmer. Humid with highs in the mid 80's.

Sunday: Partly cloudy until 4 PM, then scattered severe thunderstorms. Highs in the upper 80's.
4th of July: Partly cloudy skies with highs in the mid 80's. Stay tuned for the Fireworks timeline this weekend!


Lakes and Mountains area 4th of July weekend:

Friday: Partly sunny with scattered showers. High 75.

Friday night: Clearing with lows in the 50's.

Saturday: Sunny with highs in the low to mid 80's.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with showers and damaging thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. Low to mid 80's again.

4th of July: Sunny with highs around 80.

Cape and Islands 4th of July weekend:

Friday: Sunny with a high of 76. SE wind of 10-20 MPH.

Friday night: Clear with lows in the mid to upper 50's.

Saturday: Sunny with highs in the mid to upper 70's.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a afternoon shower possible. Not the best beach day with cool temps around 70.

4th of July: A better beach day with partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 70's.

A Nice Rebound

Dry air has come into the area tonight and will lead to a great Thursday. Temps will rise to near 80 along with bright sunshine and low humidity. Friday will also start out sunny, but a brief PM shower is possible as a weak trough comes thru. It should be mainly dry for the long 4th of July weekend along with comfy temps.

Boston, MA forecast:

Tonight: Clear and comfy. Low 60.

Thursday: Sunny in the morning, then a mix of sun and clouds in the afternoon. High 80. NW wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 25 MPH.

Thursday night: Partly cloudy with lows around 60.

Friday: Mostly sunny until 2 PM, then isolated showers. Highs in the upper 70's.

Saturday: Sunny with highs around 80.

Sunday: A mix of sun and clouds with a few isolated PM storms. Humid with highs in the 80's.

4th of July: Sunny with highs in the 80's .

Tropics: Tropical Storm Arlene has formed in the SW gulf of Mexico with winds of 60 MPH. A Hurricane Warning has been posted for parts of east Mexico, but the main threat will be flooding rains. Arlene will make landfall early on Thursday.

First day of Camp

Wednesday is my first day at Hale reservation in Westwood working as a counselor this summer. A cool front will come thru the area on Wednesday leading to hit and miss storms. However, it will also lower the humidity for the end of the week. A warming trend will lead us into the long Holiday weekend. Stay tuned for my Holiday weekend special on Thursday.

Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms. Muggy with a low of 67.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then partly sunny with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. High 82. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Wednesday night: Partly cloudy and drier. Lows around 60.

Thursday: Sunny and less humid. Nice with highs around 80.

The Week Ahead

Skies will finally clear out on Monday leading to a nice late June day. Tuesday will also be nice, until a front comes in from the west leading to more rain. It should dry out by the end of the week.

Low pressures will ride across the warm front stalled to our south over the next few days leading to more rain. Although it won't be raining the whole time mist and drizzle will fall when it is not pouring. The whole system will finally come thru late Saturday with a final round of showers and storms.

Streak Ending

The great weather we have had for the last several days is coming to an end. A warm front will come in from the west and stall south of the area for a few days. This will lead to a few days of cool and wet weather. It should clear out for the weekend as long as the warm front comes thru.

Wednesday: Increasing clouds until 6 PM, then scattered showers. High 75. NE wind of 10-20 MPH.

Happy Summer!

Summer starts at 116 PM on Tuesday and another nice day is in store with mainly sunny skies and temps in the 70's. A warm front will arrive late Wednesday and stall over the area leading to cool temps and rain for a few days. Hopefully, it will clear out for the weekend.

Tonight: Clear with lows near 62 in Boston, 59 in JP and 54 in the suburbs.

Tuesday: Sunny in the morning, then partly sunny in the afternoon. High 80. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Tuesday night: Mostly cloudy with lows in the mid 60's.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with a few afternoon showers possible. Highs in the mid 70's.

Thursday: Rainy and cool. Highs in the mid 60's.

Friday: More rain likely with highs in the 60's.

Tropics: Beatriz is now a Hurricane in the East Pacific with winds of 75 MPH as it batters the Mexico coast. The Atlantic is quiet for now.

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's day to all the dad's and thanks for checking out my blog. My dad is currently on the other side of the world in Australia on business and will be returning next week. What a great day with comfy temps and dry air today-hope you enjoyed it. Monday will also be great with sunny skies and low humidity. Summer begins at 116 PM on Tuesday, and another nice day is in store. Midweek is a little iffy as a frontal boundary comes from in the west and stalls over the area. At this point showers and storms are possible by late Wednesday.

Boston, MA forecast:

Tonight: Mainly clear and cool. Lows near 58 in Boston, 55 in JP and 48 in the coolest suburbs.

Monday: Partly cloudy with a light sea breeze. Highs near 72 at the beaches, 77 in JP and 81 inland. SE wind of 10-15 MPH.

Monday night: Clear and cool again. Lows in the 50's.

Tuesday: Happy summer! Summer starts at 116 PM with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70's.

Rolling Rally

The Bruins have won the Stanley Cup in 2011! I have been lucky to grow up a Boston sports fan in this decade with all 4 major teams winning at least 1 title. The parade for the Bruins will be Saturday morning and showers and storms are possible after the parade ends in the early afternoon. First, a weak low pressure system will come thru on Friday with rain, but not as heavy or widespread as I had thought earlier this week. Father's day will be great with sunny skies and highs around 80.

Tonight: Clear this evening, then increasing clouds. Lows near 65 in Boston, 62 in JP and 57 in the suburbs.

Turn for the Better

The low will slowly move east on Wednesday allowing for clearing to come into the area. Temps will be near 70 at the coast, but well in to the 70's inland. Another nice day will occur on Thursday with sunny skies and temps in the 80's. A storm system will provide a soaking rain late Friday, but at this early stage it seems it should clear out for the weekend.

Tonight: Mostly Cloudy with a shower possible. Low 54.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy until 10 AM , then mostly sunny. Warmer with highs near 70 in Boston, 73 in JP and 78 inland. East wind of 10-20 MPH.

Thursday: A great June day with sunny skies and highs in the low 80's.

Friday: Scattered showers in the morning, then heavy rain the afternoon. Humid with highs in the low 70's.

Dank and Dismal

A weak storm system will pass thru the area tonight leading to a rainy night and early Sunday. Then a ocean storm will form on Monday and stall offshore leading to more periods of rain, mist and drizzle. Hopefully, some clearing will arrive by Wednesday.

Sunday: Showers with scattered thunderstorms until 10 AM, then scattered showers with mist and drizzle. High 60. East wind of 15-20 MPH.

Wet Weekend

A front will stall around the area thru the weekend leading to periodic showers and thunderstorms. The steadiest rain will be late Saturday night into Sunday morning, then partial clearing could lead to some big boomers late Sunday. A cool and wet pattern will hang around thru early next week.

Triple H's!

Hot and humid air will come into the area from the SW on Wednesday with temps rising into the 90's. The hottest day will be Thursday when 100 degrees is possible. The record for Boston is 96- it will probably be broken. A strong cold front will come thru late with severe storms possible. Cooler air will come in for the weekend with rain possible on Sunday.

Tonight: Clear and a bit stuffy. Low 65.

Wednesday: Hazy, hot and humid. Highs near 87 at the beaches, 92 in JP and 96 inland. SE wind of around 10 MPH.

Wednesday night: Mostly clear and tough for sleeping. Lows in the low 70's.

Thursday: Record heat likely. Hazy until 4 PM, then scattered severe thunderstorms. Highs near 100!

Thursday night: Severe thunderstorms possible before 9 PM, then partial clearing. Lows around 70.

Friday: Partly sunny with highs around 80.

Saturday: Partly sunny with highs in the 70's.

Sunday: Rain possible with highs in the 60's.

Tropics: Tropical Storm Adrian has formed in the East Pacific with winds of 45 MPH. It is expected to become a Hurricane over the next few days over the open ocean.

500th Post!!!

This is my 500th post since I started my blog in the summer of '09. Thanks for reading my blog, I hope you have enjoyed it. I plan on continuing this blog throughout the summer of 2011 and beyond and will write as often as I can. Another nice June day is on tap for Monday with mainly sunny skies and comfy temps. Eventually, hot and humid air will come back into the area by the end of the week.

MA Tornadoes: The Tornado that ripped thru Springfield was ruled an EF3 and traveled about 40 miles. It was one of the most powerful storms in New England history. Stay tuned for more updates on the Tornadoes over the next few days.

Tornadoes in MA!


This is a picture of the Tornado headed for Springfield, MA!

3 confirmed tornadoes touched down in MA yesterday and possibly more. One went right thru Springfield and caused major damage there. Over 100 structure were destroyed in Springfield alone, causing a few injuries. Another tornado caused damage in a central MA town, in a more rural area but still caused damage. No official report yet, but my guess is that it will be rated around and EF3.

EF (Enhanced Fujita Scale) Tornado Scale: From the National Weather Service. Based on Damage and wind estimates.

EF 0: Winds of 65-85 MPH- a weak tornado. Causes some minor damage

EF 1: Winds of 85-110 MPH- Still weak. Uproots trees and damages mobile homes

EF 2: 111-135 MPH- Strong- Can damage homes and knock over flagpoles.

EF 3: 136-165 MPH-Severe- Possibly what hit Springfield, MA. Most homes destroyed.

EF 4- 166-199 MPH- Devastating- Complete destruction of neighborhoods.

EF5 -200 + MPH- Incredible- Complete wiping out of buildings. EF5 Tornado hit Joplin, MO.

Tonight: Mostly clear and cool. Lows near 50 in Boston, 47 in JP and 44 in the suburbs.

Friday: Mostly sunny and windy. High 70. NW wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Friday night: Clear with lows around 50 in Boston and 40's in the suburbs.

Saturday: Mostly sunny with a sea breeze. Highs near 67 in Boston and 73 inland.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a few afternoon showers possible. Highs in the upper 60's.

Watch Extended

A TORNADO WATCH has been extended until 11 PM tonight for the Boston area. Tornadoes have touchdown in Springfield, MA and in central MA. Stay tuned for more details on the Tornado damage in MA tomorrow. Conditions are prime for Tornadoes, so be prepared to take shelter. If a TORNADO WARNING IS ISSUED I will post it. Stay tuned for more updates.

Tornado Watch

A Tornado Watch has been issued for the Boston area until 8 PM tonight. This means that the atmosphere is ripe for Tornadoes. Severe storms will come thru the area tonight with big hail, damaging winds up to 70 MPH and isolated tornadoes. Be prepared to take shelter as the storm approaches the area. However, not every area will be hit-still this is a serious situation. Possible Tornadoes have been reported in Western MA, and are approaching the Worcester area as of 4 PM. Stay tuned for more updates this afternoon.
