Tornadoes in MA!


This is a picture of the Tornado headed for Springfield, MA!

3 confirmed tornadoes touched down in MA yesterday and possibly more. One went right thru Springfield and caused major damage there. Over 100 structure were destroyed in Springfield alone, causing a few injuries. Another tornado caused damage in a central MA town, in a more rural area but still caused damage. No official report yet, but my guess is that it will be rated around and EF3.

EF (Enhanced Fujita Scale) Tornado Scale: From the National Weather Service. Based on Damage and wind estimates.

EF 0: Winds of 65-85 MPH- a weak tornado. Causes some minor damage

EF 1: Winds of 85-110 MPH- Still weak. Uproots trees and damages mobile homes

EF 2: 111-135 MPH- Strong- Can damage homes and knock over flagpoles.

EF 3: 136-165 MPH-Severe- Possibly what hit Springfield, MA. Most homes destroyed.

EF 4- 166-199 MPH- Devastating- Complete destruction of neighborhoods.

EF5 -200 + MPH- Incredible- Complete wiping out of buildings. EF5 Tornado hit Joplin, MO.


Boston, MA forecast:

Tonight: Mostly clear and cool. Lows near 50 in Boston, 47 in JP and 44 in the suburbs.

Friday: Mostly sunny and windy. High 70. NW wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Friday night: Clear with lows around 50 in Boston and 40's in the suburbs.

Saturday: Mostly sunny with a sea breeze. Highs near 67 in Boston and 73 inland.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a few afternoon showers possible. Highs in the upper 60's.
