Major Storm Wednesday (but mostly rain)

A major storm system will affect the region with heavy snow, rain and 60 MPH wind gusts. The snow will start just before dawn and fall heavily at times through the morning commute from Boston points north and west. It will briefly start as snow south of Boston, then turn to heavy rain. It will begin to change to rain in Boston by 9 am, 11 am north and west of 128, and noon near Worcester. Winds will gust out of the east to 50 MPH in Boston and 60 MPH on the Cape. It will all begin to wind down by the evening commute. Highs will range from near 36 in Worcester to around 45 in Boston and 50 on the Cape.

Local alerts: A Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk and points north and west from Worcester. It is in effect until 1 PM Wednesday.

A high Wind Watch on the cape, and a Wind Advisory for the rest of the coastline, including Boston. It is in effect until 3 PM.

A Coastal Flood warning in effect until 7 PM for entire coastline, including Boston.

Timeline:

4 AM: Snow moves into the Worcester area.
5-6 AM: Snow moves into Boston.
7 AM: Snow changes to rain south of Boston. Begins as all rain on the cape.
8 AM: Snow, heavy at times falling from Boston to Providence points north. Starting to mix south of 95.
9 AM: The rain/snow line moves into Boston. Snow to the NW and rain to the SE. Becoming windy.
9-noon: The snow changes to rain from SE to NW, finally reaching the NH border area by noon. Very windy.
12-4 PM: Rain, heavy at times and very windy. This is when we can expect the strongest winds.
4 PM: Rain tapers to showers.

Snow amounts:

Up to 2: From providence along 95 to the immediate Boston area. Including areas like Newton, Dedham, Cambridge. A little under an inch in JP.

2-4: North of the Pike and west of 128. Areas like Bedford, Concord, Framingham.

4-6+: West of 495 including the Worcester area.

Snow day potential: Unfortunately I am not the person who makes the decisions. However, there is a possibility of delays or closings north and west of Boston. If you want the latest closings you can check out the WBZ storm center.
