Drying Out

Rain changed to snow this evening and accumulated a little here in JP. And as the storm intensified there was even thunder snow. Now, winds will gust past 50 MPH tonight as skies clear. The sun will return on Friday along with gusty winds. Over the weekend some light snow is likely.

Mainly Rain

A powerful storm will bring mainly rain and strong winds to the Boston area. It may start out as snow late morning but will quickly change to rain. Heavy rain will continue through the evening. As the storm passes to our north winds will change to the west leading to colder air coming back into the area. So it may end as snow before ending.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect NW of rte. 128 for Thursday

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for northern and western New England. Over a foot of snow is possible there!

Thursday:  Any snow in the morning quickly changes to heavy rain. High 40. SE wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH. No accumulation expected in Boston.

Thursday night: Heavy rain changes to snow before ending. Lows around 30. West wind of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH. Snow may coat the ground.

Friday: Mostly sunny with highs in the upper 30's.

New Year's Eve: Some snow possible at night. Highs in the low 30's.

Storm Thursday

Wednesday will be the calm before the storm with sunny skies and temps near 40. Then a powerful storm will impact the area Thursday afternoon into Thursday night. It appears that it will be mainly rain in Boston ending as snow. And there is potential for some accumulation.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect west of route 128 for Thursday.

Rain Update

A storm will bring rain and wind to the area tonight into Tuesday morning. And temps will rise into the low 50's by morning. Wednesday will be dry before a nor'easter threatens the area on Thursday.

The Week Ahead

Clouds will increase on Monday as the next storm approaches. Rain should arrive after dark and continue overnight along with strong winds. Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday should be dry before our next storm on Thursday.

Up And Down

Temps will rise overnight and rain will arrive by dawn. Showers will continue on Sunday and there is even a chance of a thunderstorm. Behind the storm temps will crash again and another flash freeze is likely.

Tonight: Any showers of freezing rain turn to rain showers. Temps rising to 47 by dawn. SW wind of 15-25 MPH.

Storm Forecast

Snow will arrive in the wee hours of the morning and continue through the morning before ending as rain. However, several inches of snow now appears likely. After temps rise above freezing  in the early afternoon winds will change to the north and a flash freeze is likely. Rain and warm temps are likely by Sunday.

Tonight: Increasing clouds until 3 AM, then snow. Temps rise to 25 by dawn. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Saturday: Snow in the morning, then areas of rain, freezing rain and sleet in the afternoon. High 35. East wind of 10-20 MPH changing to NW late. Total snow amounts of 3-5 inches expected.

Saturday night: Areas of freezing drizzle and drizzle early, then scattered rain showers late. Temps rising into the upper 40's.

Sunday: Periods of rain. Highs in the mid 50's.

Monday: Clearing with highs in the low 30's.

Tuesday: Sunny with highs in the 30's.

Wild Weather

Arctic air will continue to come into the area tonight along with damaging winds. Friday will be cold and windy along with sunny skies. Then a storm will effect the area on Saturday. It will start as snow but as warmer air comes up from the south the snow will change to rain. However, a few inches of snow is likely before then.

Friday: Sunny and frigid. Windy with a high of 17. West wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH. Wind chill values as low as 20 BELOW before 9 AM.

Friday night: Increasing clouds early, then snow late. Lows around 10.

Saturday: Snow in the morning, then rain in the afternoon. Highs around 40. Total snow amounts of 2-4 inches expected. 

Saturday night: Rain showers. Temps holing near 40.

Sunday: Rain likely. Highs around 50.

Monday: Clearing with highs in the 30's.

Dangerous Cold

A cold front will cross the region Thursday morning with a snow shower and cold winds. Temps in the mid 20's in the morning will fall during the day along with increasing winds. A secondary front will bring dangerous cold and damaging winds on Thursday night. And temps on Friday will hold in the teens. By Saturday a snow to rain scenario seems likely.

Thursday night: Partly cloudy with a passing snow shower early, then clear late. Very windy with lows near 3 ABOVE. West wind of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH. Wind chill values as low as 20 BELOW late.

One More

Wednesday will be similar to Tuesday with sun and temps near 40. An arctic  front will bring dangerous cold and damaging winds on Thursday into Friday. A storm is likely by Saturday.

Some Snow

Clouds will increase on Sunday ahead of our next storm. Snow will arrive after dark on Sunday and continue steadily for the overnight hours. By daybreak on Monday snow will change to rain. But a few inches of snow is likely by morning. It will then rain during the morning on Monday.

Tonight: Clear and frigid. Lows near 20 in Boston and 10 in the suburbs.

Sunday: Increasing clouds with a high of 32. SW wind 10-20 MPH.

Sunday night: Cloudy until 9 PM, then snow. Lows around 30. East wind of 10-20 MPH.

Monday: Any snow changes to rain by 7 AM, then rain. Highs in the upper 30s'. Total snow amounts of 1-2 inches likely.

Wednesday: Sunny with highs in the 30's.

Cold Days

Saturday will be the coldest day of the season so far with a winter wind. It now appears that Sunday will be dry as the storm is slower moving in. The storm will bring snow changing to rain Sunday night into Monday morning. And a few inches of snow are likely before the change over.

Weekend Update

An arctic front will lead to a cold and blustery Friday. The core of the cold will come into New England an a weak system will likely bring snow showers by Sunday. Then we will need to watch for the potential of a winter storm by Monday.

Colder Air

Some sun is likely on Thursday as low pressure continues to move off to the east. An arctic front will bring in frigid and windy conditions for the weekend. However, some snow is likely by Sunday-stay tuned for more details as we get closer.

A Mix

A weak storm will bring a mix of rain and snow with no accumulation expected in Boston.  The precip will end by mid morning and the sun may come out before setting. An arctic front will cross the area on Thursday with a snow shower. And temps will crash behind the front.

A storm will come in from the west and give us a mix of snow and rain. Snow should arrive at about 6 AM and it will snow steadily through the morning hours. However, as warm air comes up from the south snow will change to rain in Boston after a small accumulation.

Snow Monday

Sunday will be another chilly and sunny day as High pressure stays in control. Then an area of low pressure brings snow to the area on Monday. At this point it looks to arrive in time for the morning commute. And a small accumulation is possible in some areas.

Saturday will be sunny and breezy along with near normal temps. Sunday will also be dry before a weak system brings scattered snow showers by Monday.

Rain Ending

Rain will continue overnight as an area of low pressure comes through. By Thursday skies will clear and temps will hold in the 50's along with a gusty wind. Friday will be windy and chilly with a passing flurry. It should be chilly and dry for the weekend.

More Rain

Another area of low pressure will bring rain to the area on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Skies will clear on Thursday and it will remain above average. And at this early stage the weekend looks dry as well.

Heavy Rains

A strong storm will hit the area on Tuesday with heavy rains and gusty winds. The heaviest rain will fall in the afternoon and evening. After a break on Tuesday night before more rain is likely on Wednesday. Clearing will come into the area for the end of the week.

Tonight: Increasing clouds temps around 34 this evening will rise to 38 by dawn.

Tuesday: Scattered showers in the morning, then heavy rain in the afternoon. High 50. SE wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH. Total rainfall around an inch.

Tuesday night: Heavy rain in the evening, then mostly cloudy late. Lows in the mid 40's. SE wind of 15-25 MPH.

This Winter looks to feature some cold but above average snow. The snow seems to be spread out for the entire winter. And signals point to more snow in Northern New England than the last few years. But my snow totals will be for the immediate Boston area.

Scattered Showers

An area of low pressure will continue to effect the area over the next few days. Black Friday will feature showers and mist and temps in the upper 40's. Saturday will be wet as well before drying for Sunday.

Snow Forecast

Wednesday will be a nice day for travel in New England as it will be sunny with light winds. Then a weak system will effect the area on Thanksgiving Day. It will start out as light snow and freezing drizzle before changing to scattered rain showers in the afternoon. A coating of snow is possible in the Boston area.

Forecast Update

Tuesday will be another cold and windy today, although it won't be quiet as cold as Monday. Wednesday will be a dry day before a weak storm arrives on Thanksgiving day. At this point some light snow and freezing drizzle is possible before a change to rain showers in the afternoon.

Tropics: TS Otto has formed with winds of 60 MPH and is expected to make landfall near Costa Rica as a Cat 1 Hurricane.

Falling Temps

A strong cold front will bring rain showers and strong winds. As colder air comes into the area rain showers will change to snow in Northern and Western New England and will accumulate several inches there. In the Boston area it may end as some flurries. Either way it will remain cold for days.

Friday will be another nice fall day with sunny skies and temps nearing 60. A cold front will approach the area on Saturday leading to an increase in clouds. A strong front will cross the area on Sunday leading to rain showers, strong winds and falling temps. And the rain showers may mix with snow before ending.

Rainy Sunday

A front will combine with moisture from Hurricane Matthew on the east coast to bring us rain on Sunday. As Hurricane Matthew is still a category 1 Hurricane on the North Carolina coast. As the storm heads out to sea the front will steal rain from the Hurricane and bring it into eastern New England.

Some Rain

The latest forecast for Hurricane Matthew has changed a bit. The latest track still sends the Hurricane to North Carolina and then track to the east. But, the storm may come further north than expected. Although it won't make it far enough north to bring winds it may add rain to a front coming through Saturday night into Sunday.

Major Shift

There has been a major shift in the track of Matthew. The storm will strike the east coast of Florida over the next few days with major Hurricane conditions. However, once it reaches the Carolinas it will track east and not come up the coast. So, it looks like a dry weekend.

Nice Days

The next few days will feature sunny skies and comfy temps. Then all eyes will turn to Matthew on the east coast. However,  the latest track sends it from near Florida to South Carolina. Then turns NE and out to sea after that over the weekend. But, a slight shift in conditions could change that.

Matthew Update

Hurricane Matthew now has winds of 145 MPH as it heads for Haiti. It will strike eastern Cuba on Tuesday before coming into the Bahamas by mid week. It will threaten the Carolinas by the end of the week. It will make its closest pass to New England by the weekend. However, at this time is too early to determine its effects. Hurricane Matthew is still a powerful Category 4 Hurricane with winds of 145 MPH! It will hit Haiti with winds and 3 FEET of rain. After that it will cross eastern Cuba and into the Bahamas. Hurricane Matthew: Matthew now has winds of 150 MPH as it heads for Haiti. It will then head to the Bahamas by mid week as a major Hurricane. It may threaten New England by next weekend. Stay tuned!

Hurricane Matthew

Major Hurricane Matthew now has winds of 160 MPH in the Caribbean!  That makes it a Category 5 Hurricane- the highest on the scale. The latest track sends near Jamaica this weekend as a major Hurricane. And it will then approach the Bahamas by early next week. It may threaten the East coast after that-but it is a little to early to know what the final track will be. Meanwhile, rain will continue during the day on Saturday. Some showers will linger into Sunday.

The remains of Hermine will finally drift out to sea on Thursday leading to clearing skies. Then the heat will return by Friday and the weekend will be warm as well.

The storm was delayed a little today because Hermine turned a bit more to the east than expected. Now more rain bands along with gusty winds will continue overnight into Tuesday. Although, the  wind will gradually decrease during the day on Tuesday. More showers are likely into Wednesday.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the South coast, Cape and Islands for Monday. The latest track takes it just south of New England over the next few days. That will lead to periods of rain and gusty winds in the Boston area. Although, the worst of the storm will be south of Boston.

Hermine Forecast

Hermine is now a post Tropical Storm with winds of 70 MPH. The latest track takes it up the coast and stalls it off the coast of New Jersey late on Sunday. That track will bring tropical rains and gusty winds Sunday night into Monday. Then, it will track NE and towards the MA coastline by Wednesday. So. another period of rain and wind is possible.

Tropical Storm Watch

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the South Coast, Cape and Islands for Tropical Storm Hermine. Winds may gust as high as 50-55 MPH there on Labor Day. In Boston I expect wind gusts of 40 MPH or so. Stay tuned for a full Tropical Storm Hermine forecast later tonight.

Hermine Update

Tropical Storm Hermine now has winds of 50 MPH in the Carolinas. The latest track takes the storm back over the water and will start to make its way north. And it is expected to re-strengthen to a Hurricane.  However, a block on the east coast will stall the storm to the south of New England. At this point it looks to stall a bit to far south to have a major impact in the Boston area. But, a slight shift north could change that.

Hurricane Hermine

Hurricane Hermine has winds of 80 MPH as it makes landfall in the Panhandle of Florida. The latest track takes it up the east coast the next few days. By Sunday it will stall on the east coast as a Tropical Storm. Where it stalls will determine our impacts here in New England. At this point it looks like a minor impact with rain and gusty winds late Sunday into Monday. But a slight shift could change it. Stay tuned for further updates.
