Mainly Rain

A powerful storm will bring mainly rain and strong winds to the Boston area. It may start out as snow late morning but will quickly change to rain. Heavy rain will continue through the evening. As the storm passes to our north winds will change to the west leading to colder air coming back into the area. So it may end as snow before ending.

Alerts:

A High Wind Watch is in effect for the Boston area for Thursday night.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect NW of rte. 128 for Thursday

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for northern and western New England. Over a foot of snow is possible there!

Boston forecast:

Tonight: Increasing clouds with a low of 30.

Thursday:  Any snow in the morning quickly changes to heavy rain. High 40. SE wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH. No accumulation expected in Boston.

Thursday night: Heavy rain changes to snow before ending. Lows around 30. West wind of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH. Snow may coat the ground.

Friday: Mostly sunny with highs in the upper 30's.

New Year's Eve: Some snow possible at night. Highs in the low 30's.

New Year's Day:  Sunny with highs in the 30's.
