Sandy Forecast

Sandy now has winds of 75 MPH, making it a minimal Category 1 Hurricane. The latest track still sends it into NJ as a strong Tropical Storm or minimal Hurricane. That would still lead to a major impact here in the Boston area. Conditions would start to worsen by late Sunday and not improving until Tuesday night. Now is the time to prepare for the storm! Bring any items that may blow away, and clear leaves from any storm drains to help the flooding.

Boston forecast:

Tonight: Clear with lows in the 40's.

Saturday: Sunny with a high of 65. SE wind of 10-20 MPH.

Saturday night: Increasing clouds with lows in the upper 40's .

Sunday: Cloudy and becoming breezy. Highs in the low 60's. NE wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH.

Hurricane Sandy forecast: Based on current track  Subject to change.

Sunday night: Showers likely and becoming windy. East wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Monday: Heavy rain and strong winds come into the area. Highs in the 60's. East wind gusting past 40 MPH possible!

Monday night: The height of the storm. Highs around 60. Heavy, flooding rains with strong winds. East wind gusting to 50 MPH possible.

Tuesday: Strong winds and flooding rains continue. Highs in the 50's. East wind gusting past 50 MPH.

Note: Stay tuned for any warnings issued this weekend.  Also stay tuned for a more detailed timeline as we get close to the event.

  1. I heard reports earlier about Sandy possibly interacting with another storm system coming in from the west, and with arctic air coming down from the north. Is that still a possibility and, if so, what effects would they have on the tropical storm/minimal hurricane in the Boston area?

  2. Hey Chris,

The front will eventually combine with the Hurricane, but will be inland when that happens. Along and behind the cold front snow is likely. In Boston it will not make too much of a difference. It will be stronger than a regular nor'easter but not a major hurricane.
