The nor'easter for tomorrow has shifted north, and that will bring steady snow to the Boston area and points south tomorrow afternoon and night. It now seems the steady snow will fall the longest on the South Shore and the Cape, but another slight shift north would bring more significant amounts into Boston, which is not out of the question. Currently, I am going for just a light event in Boston, and even less to the north of route 495. It will be quite windy as well, as winds will gust over 40 MPH in Boston as the nor'easter makes it closest pass to New England on Wednesday night.
Timeline: Long duration event
Tonight: Becoming cloudy with a risk of a flurry after midnight. Lows in the low 30's.
7 AM Wednesday: Scattered snow showers around the area.
11 AM: Steady snow arrives on the Cape and Islands. Winds become gusty.
1 PM: Steady snow arrives in Boston and points west.
2 PM- 10 PM: Windblown steady snow may create low visibility from Boston points south at times. NE winds gusting over 50 MPH on the cape and 40 in Boston. Snow will have a tough time sticking at first on the pavement, but once the sun sets it will. Temps hold in the low to mid 30's.
After 10 PM: Snow showers continue, mainly along the coast. Steady snow may continue on the Cape. Lows dip into the 20's.
7 AM- 11 AM Thursday: Snow showers continue in Boston and along the coast.
Thursday afternoon: Some breaks of sun are possible with temps in the upper 30's., which will melt the snow. .
Amounts(inches): Could easily change slightly.
3-6+: A line from Marshfield to Providence, RI points south and east. Including areas like Taunton, Brockton, Bridgewater, Plymouth, Franklin, Falmouth, the Vineyard. Less on the outer cape because of a change to rain.
1-3: South of a line from Gloucester to Leominster, including the immediate Boston area. Including areas like Medford, Lincoln, Reading, Acton, Boxford. About 2 inches in JP.
Boston, MA weekend forecast:
Friday: Mostly cloudy in the morning, then some sun for the afternoon. Highs around 40.
Saturday: Sunny, highs in the mid 40's.
Sunday: Partly cloudy, highs near 50.
