Many roads are rivers and backyards are ponds throughout the region. Many rivers and ponds have record floods including Jamaica Pond, which is way over its banks. The pond is over the wall in most areas as trees are way underwater. The path is also underwater, and some ducks are swimming along the path. The water also has reached most benches, including by the dock where the wall is the highest. The water also reaches the grass in some areas. It does not quite reach Perkins St., but it is not that far away. The water has receded in the other ponds in the area. But Jamaica pond still has to drain into it, so they will likely rise again. The ponds will start to recede in the next 12-18 hours. Thankfully, Easter weekend will be great with sunny skies and highs around 80 both days.

The heaviest rain has ended, but bands will occasionally come in off the ocean and up from the south overnight and Wednesday morning. Then summer like weather will come in for Easter weekend.

We have now set the record for the most rain ever recorded in March with total at Logan 11.1 inches so far. That breaks the old record of 11 set back in 1953. Now, the heavy rain is occurring over the area and will continue through the night and most of Tuesday. That will create major flooding, as the rivers and streams are already very high. It will also create urban flooding, many roads will have big puddles on them. Basement flooding is very likely, so please bring up any thing you want to save now. Major rainstorm ahead
A storm centered over the Ohio valley will very slowly move up the eastern seaboard over the next few days bringing the area soaking rain and wind. During the day on Monday the heaviest rain will be centered around Worcester and points west. However, during the evening the heaviest rain will come into the Boston area and last through most of Tuesday. The wind will also pick up during this time with gusts over 40 MPH along the coast, including Boston. This rain will create major river, urban and basement flooding over most of the area by Wednesday. BE PREPARED WITH AN EVACUATION PLAN IF YOU ARE PRONE TO FLOODING. Please avoid all low lying roads starting Tuesday morning commute including the J-way and Storrow drive.
Alert: A flood watch is in effect for all of the area, except the Cape. I expect this to be upgraded to a Flood Warning at some point during the storm.

Magic number:3
Another major nor'easter is headed our way for the first half of the week. It will bring heavy rain, strong winds and more flooding. If we pick up more than 3 inches of rain then the rivers will once again go over their banks. Unfortunately, I now expect 3-6 inches of rain for Monday thru Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. Jamaica Pond and the Muddy river will once again need to be watched for significant flooding. I also expect flooded basements, so make sure to take valuables upstairs tomorrow before the storm hits. Great weather will follow the storm at the end of the week with sunny skies and temps climbing into the 70's!
Alerts: A Flood Watch is in effect for the entire area. I expect this will be upgraded to a flood warning at some point during the storm.

Tuesday: and Tuesday night: Heavy rain in the morning, then a steady rain in the afternoon and at night. Temps in the mid 40's. NE winds remaining strong.
Wednesday: Rain tapering off in the morning. Highs in the 40's as the wind slowly diminishes.
Rain totals:

End in Sight
We picked up another 2 inches of rain today causing most major rivers to flood again. Another batch of heavy rain will come through this evening, then taper to showers by morning. It may end as some wet snowflakes, but no accumulation of snow is expected. However, an additional .5-1 inch of rain can be expected by tomorrow morning. Then, another system will come through on Thursday night and Friday morning. I am now thinking it is a mainly rain event, with some wet snow possible at the end. Behind the front, a shot of very cold air will come in to the area. Then, it now appears another powerful nor'easter will batter the region on Monday, before it clears. After that storm it seems the pattern will shift and spring will arrive to stay by early April.

North America pattern shift?
Another nor'easter has begun to affect the region with light showers during the afternoon. Showers will be off and on until 3 or 4 in the morning, then the heavy rain arrives and will last all morning. Showers will continue through Wednesday morning, and may even end as some wet snowflakes. Total rain amounts will range from 1-3 inches and that will create some more rivers to flood.

Volcano eruption:
A small volcano has erupted in Iceland, and close to it is a very powerful and large volcano called Katla. The last several times the smaller one went off, it caused the larger one to have a big explosion. If the large volcano erupts it could change weather patterns. The last time Katla erupted around 1910, it was a huge eruption. It caused North America to go into a mini ice age. Temps here in New England did not make it above 0 (F) for several months, NYC got feet of snow, and the Mississippi river froze in New Orleans, LA. If Katla erupts as it has in the past, we would have a chilly summer and a frigid winter. Stay tuned in the next couple of weeks to see if it erupts.

Happy Spring!
Spring officially begins today at 132 PM, and highs will reach the low 70's this afternoon. Friday was another great day with highs reaching 72 here in JP, but only 58 at Logan. The sea breeze held on at the airport, but never made it to JP. I was at Charles/MGH red line station and it was significantly cooler there than when I got off at Stony Brook. That is very rare; usually both locations receive a sea breeze. Today is the last day of the nice weather, as Sunday will be stuck in the 40's with cloudy skies before another nor'easter comes up the coast.
Boston, MA forecast:
Today: A fantastic day with sunny skies and a high of 72! Spring begins at 132 PM! A light west wind.
Tonight: Clear, lows in the upper 40's.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy with near steady temps in the upper 40's. A sprinkle is possible. A light NE wind.
Monday: Cloudy until 5 PM, then rain and becoming windy. Highs around 50.
Monday night and Tuesday: The nor'easter hits with heavy rain and strong NE winds. Temps in the mid 40's. Flooding is likely, but I don't expect more than a few inches of rain.
Tuesday night and Wednesday: Showers continue along with gusty winds.

What a Day!
Today, St. Patrick's day, was a great day with deep blue skies and temps hitting 65 in most of the region, including Boston. The great weather will stick around through the weekend, however on Friday we may have a sea breeze that will make it cooler in Boston. The rivers have started to come down and even though some basements are still wet, most of the severe flooding is over. The rivers closer to home have also come down, as the walkway is now clear around the Pond. Thankfully, I don't see any major rain storms in the next week although a cold front with showers will come through on Monday.

Does anyone have an ark?
The powerful nor'easter stalled to the south has given us rain all day aggravating the flooding across the region. Almost all major rivers are at least 3 FT above flood stage, causing people to evacuate and roads to be impassible. Major flooding is being reported all over the area, Some areas include Quincy, Winchester, Waltham, and Billercia. Closer to home Jamaica Pond is up to the rocks in some places, and is just about to come on to the walkway along the J-Way. Leverett's pond is almost up to the road, and the walkways are flooded. The water is also almost up to Daisy field- the baseball field on the J-Way. The muddy river flooded Fenway station today, shutting it down as it crested at 15 FT 5 inches. However, sand bags have kept the water out of Kenmore station. But, the river is way over its banks as benches, train tracks and pathways are all underwater. This is the most flooding I have ever seen in our area, and the rivers may not have crested yet in most locations. Beware for more flooding after the rain ends, as some roads may become even more flooded. The rain will finally come to an end after midnight tonight.

Major Flooding!
It has now been raining for 2 days and some spots on the north shore have reported 8 inches of rain!! An additional 1-3 inches of rain will fall through Monday, and that will cause more flooding. Some spots may end up with close to a foot of rain! Many rivers are way over their banks, including close to some of our houses here in JP. Evacuations are being ordered all over the state, as the water has come up to first floor windows in some locations. The muddy river along the J-way is way over its banks, along with Leverett's pond. The muddy river gauge currently reads 14 FT 10 inches. If it rises to 15 FT or higher Kenmore square station will be flooded, as well as some roads in Kenmore square- very close to my dad's office. Unfortunately, I expect this to happen. So, I strongly suggest AVOIDING KENMORE STATION ON MONDAY! I encourage seeking an alternate route if your commute takes you through Kenmore square. The storm will slowly move away by Tuesday morning.

The ocean storm that gave us a couple days of snow has moved on and now it will be warm and sunny for the weekend. Snow on the Cape
Once again, the storm failed to produce the snow this afternoon in the Boston area. However, the snow did make it as far as about Brockton, and then stalled. It has been snowing at a good clip on the Cape all afternoon, and they have picked up a few inches in some locations. However, the snow will reach the Boston area by 9 PM, and fall lightly through the night in Boston and points west. But, on the South Shore it will fall hard for a while, before tapering off late. Snow showers will continue throughout the day tomorrow, but it will be hard for the snow to stick on the pavement.
Tonight: Periods of snow and Windy. NE winds gusting to 50 MPH on the cape and 40 MPH in Boston. Lows in the upper 20's to 30.
Thursday: Snow showers, mainly from Boston points south. Highs in the mid 30's and remaining breezy.

Track Shift
The nor'easter for tomorrow has shifted north, and that will bring steady snow to the Boston area and points south tomorrow afternoon and night. It now seems the steady snow will fall the longest on the South Shore and the Cape, but another slight shift north would bring more significant amounts into Boston, which is not out of the question. Currently, I am going for just a light event in Boston, and even less to the north of route 495. It will be quite windy as well, as winds will gust over 40 MPH in Boston as the nor'easter makes it closest pass to New England on Wednesday night.
Timeline: Long duration event
Tonight: Becoming cloudy with a risk of a flurry after midnight. Lows in the low 30's.
7 AM Wednesday: Scattered snow showers around the area.
11 AM: Steady snow arrives on the Cape and Islands. Winds become gusty.
1 PM: Steady snow arrives in Boston and points west.

Light at the end of the Tunnel
The snow that fell last night was quickly washed away by rain or melted, and temps rebounded nicely this afternoon. Tuesday will be a cloudy day and temps will be in the low to mid 40's. Then, a major storm will come up the coast, but likely miss us to the south. A few snow showers
are possible on Wednesday afternoon and night, but will only amount to an inch or two. However, a shift further north would bring more snow to the area. Then, skies will clear and temps will moderate at the end of the week. Highs near 50 are possible by the weekend, and we are clear of any storms after Wednesday.
