Nor'easter Forecast

A powerful nor'easter will hit the area with heavy precip and strong winds. In Boston it will be mainly rain, but it may start out as some wintry mix. A couple inches of rain is likely on Tuesday and Tuesday night leading to some flooding . The strongest winds will occur in the afternoon and evening-including in Boston. And, the NE wind will lead to minor coastal flooding. Then the storm will stall near the area leading to off and on rain for days.

Alerts:

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7 AM Tuesday for the Boston area.

A Flood Watch is in effect for the Boston area thru Tuesday night.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for Boston.

A High Wind Watch is in effect for the North and South Shores, Cape and Islands.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for the coastline-including Boston.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for parts of Northern and Western New England. Over a foot of snow is possible in some areas.

Boston forecast:

Tonight: Periods of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Temps rising to 32 by dawn. NE wind of 10-20 MPH. Total snow amounts of a coating -1 inch expected.

Tuesday: Any wintry mix changes to heavy rain. Windy with a high of 45. NE wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH. Watch for icy spots in the morning.

Tuesday night: Periods of rain. Still windy with lows in the low 40's. NE wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH. Total rainfall of 1-3 inches expected.

Wednesday: Cloudy with showers continuing. Highs in the mid 40's.

Thursday: More rain likely. Highs in the low 40's.

Friday: Additional rain possible. Highs around 40.
