Close Call

Clouds will increase on Tuesday ahead of the storm. As a major nor'easter will rapidly intensify as it comes up the coast and travels well SE of Nantucket. But, it will be just close enough to bring some snow and wind to Boston, but a major Blizzard is possible on the Cape. As, damaging winds and heavy snow are expected there. However, any slight shift to the west could bring more snow and wind closer to Boston.

A Blizzard Watch is in effect for the Cape and Islands

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the South Shore

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for the Cape and Islands.

A Hurricane Force Wind Warning is in effect for the ocean!

Boston forecast:

Tonight: Clear and cold. Low 15.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny in the morning, then increasing clouds in the afternoon. High 37. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Storm Timeline: Subject to change

Tuesday evening: Snow arrives on the Cape.

After midnight: Snow arrives in Boston. Low 27.  NE wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH.

Wednesday morning: Snow and wind. Temps near freezing.  NE wind gusting to 50 MPH!

Wednesday afternoon : Snow ends. Temps around freezing. NW wind gusting to 50 MPH.

Snow Totals:  Subject to change 

1-2 Inches: NW of Boston 
2-4 inches: In most of metro Boston .
4-8 inches: The South Shore
8-12 inches: Cape and islands.

Peak Wind Gusts:

70 MPH: Cape and Islands-some gusts may reach Hurricane force!
60 MPH- Parts of the south coast
50 MPH- Boston and other parts of coast
40 MPH-Further Inland

Coastal Flooding:

Minor-Moderate coastal flooding- along Parts of the coast. Waves as high as 40 FEET!
