A powerful nor'easter will hit the area on Thursday with heavy precip and strong winds. The snow will arrive first thing in the morning and come down steadily through the morning. But, as warm air comes in off the ocean snow will change to heavy rain in Boston. And, winds will gust past 50 MPH during the height of the storm. However, as colder air comes back into the area behind the storm rain will change back to snow Thursday night.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the city of Boston and the south shore from 7 AM Thursday thru 7 AM Friday,
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect west of Boston.
A Wind Advisory is in effect for the coast-including Boston from 2 PM Thursday thru Midnight.
Storm Timeline: Thursday through Friday morning
7 AM: Snow arrives in Boston Temp 28.
8 AM- Noon: Steady to heavy snow. Temp 32. NE wind of 15-25 MPH.
Noon-6 PM: Any snow changes to heavy rain in Boston. Snow continues well NW. Temp 37. NE wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH.
6PM- Midnight: Rain continues in the Boston area. Temp 35. NE wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH.
Midnight- 7 AM Friday: Rain changes back to Snow. Temps falling to 30. Wind changes to NW at 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH.
9 AM: Snow ends. Temps near freezing.

1-3 Inches: The south shore
3-6 inches: In Boston and surrounding suburbs. About 4 inches in JP.
6-10 inches: NW of rte. 128
10-15+ inches: NW of Worcester
Peak Wind Gusts:
60 MPH-Cape and islands as well as Cape Ann.
50 MPH- South shore and Boston
40 MPH- Further inland.
