SPECIAL: 2013-14 Winter Forecast

This is a preview of the upcoming winter ahead. Last winter we saw above normal snow along with chilly temps. Some of the long range data this winter suggests less snow this winter. However, I am still expecting average snow and cold temps. And, my total snowfall is for the immediate Boston area.

Weekend Forecast

High pressure will come right into the area on Saturday leading to a sunny but cold day. Then a weak system on Sunday may lead to a few rain or snow showers as temps warm into the 40's. Monday will be chilly and cloudy, but dry. Then some precip is possible by Tuesday.

Tonight: Clear and very cold. Lows near 20 in Boston and 13 in the suburbs.

Saturday: Sunny and chilly. High 32. NW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a snow shower  possible in the morning, then a rain shower possible in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 40's.

Cold Black Friday

Friday will be another cold day with temps struggling to get to freezing. Saturday will also be cold and sunny. Then, a weak system on Sunday may lead to a few snow and rain showers as temps warm.

Tonight: Some increase in clouds. Lows near 25 in Boston and 18 in the suburbs.

Black Friday: Partly sunny in the morning, then mostly sunny in the afternoon. High 32. NW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Friday night: Clear and cold . Lows around 18.

Saturday: Mostly sunny with highs in the low 30's.

Saturday night: Increasing clouds with a snow shower possible late. Lows in the upper 20's

Sunday: Scattered snow showers in the morning, then scattered rain showers in the afternoon. Highs around 40.

Wednesday Storm Timeline

A major storm will hit New England on Wednesday with heavy rains and damaging winds here in the Boston area. The height of the storm will be thru early afternoon before tapering off late in the day. Then colder air will come into the area behind the storm leading to a chance of snow showers overnight. And, Thanksgiving day will be cold and windy.

Alerts:

A High Wind Warning is in effect for Boston and points south until 1 PM Wednesday.

A Flood Watch is in effect for almost all of New England until 4 PM Wednesday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for parts of Northern New England-where some snow and ice are possible.

Storm Timeline: Wednesday

Until 4 AM- Periods of rain. Temps rising to near 50. Wind changing to SE at 15-20 MPH

4AM-2 PM: The height of the storm. Downpours with damaging south winds. Temps rising to 63

2 PM-5 PM: Rain tapers off. Temps falling to 57, still windy. South winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts  to 50 MPH.

5 PM- Midnight: More scattered rain showers with temps falling into the upper 30's, Wind switches to NW at 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Midnight- 6AM Thursday- Any rain showers may turn to snow showers. and then ending. Temps fall to near freezing. NW wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Storm Forecast

Clouds will increase on Tuesday and temps will rise into the 40's. Then a powerful storm will pass to our west and give us flooding rain and damaging winds Tuesday night into Wednesday. The height of the storm will be Wednesday morning, before tapering off late in the day. And, temps will rise into the 60's during the storm.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with temps rising to 30 by dawn.

Tuesday: Cloudy until 4 PM, then scattered rain showers. High 45. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Tuesday night: Scattered showers until 7 PM, then rain. Temps rising to near 50 by dawn. South winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH late.

Wednesday: Heavy rain. Very windy with highs in the low 60's. South winds of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH. Total rainfall of 1-3 inches expected.


Wednesday night: Rain ending and gradual clearing. Lows in the low 30's, Wind changing to NW at 15-25 MPH.

Storm Wednesday

Strong winds today added to the chill as temps stayed in the 20's and  tonight will dip into the teens. A bit of a recovery on Monday as temps rise into the 30's with less wind. Temps on Tuesday will reach the 40's and rain will arrive overnight as the powerful storm arrives. The rain and wind will last into Wednesday

An arctic front will cross the area overnight with a snow shower possible. Then Sunday will only rise to near 30 along with strong winds. Monday will also be cold and still breezy. Tuesday will be a little warmer before tracking a nor'easter by Wednesday.

Arctic Front

The sun will return on along with a gusty wind on Saturday. Then an arctic front will cross the area on Saturday night with a passing snow shower. And during the day on Sunday temps won't make freezing and winds will be stronger than Saturday. Monday will also be cold before we watch the path of a storm by mid week.

Tonight: Low clouds with fog, mist and a passing rain shower. Low 38.

Saturday: Becoming mostly sunny. High 45. NW winds of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Saturday night: Partly to mostly cloudy with a snow shower or squall possible. Still windy with lows around 20. NW winds of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Sunday: A snow shower possible early, otherwise partly to mostly sunny and cold. Windy with highs around 30. NW winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 45 MPH. Wind chill values as low as 10 above.

Weekend Forecast

A front will come into the area on Friday with some rain showers. On Saturday it should clear out and temps will rise into the 40's. Then a powerful cold front will cross the area on Saturday night with some snow showers possible into Sunday. And temps on Sunday may not reach freezing along with a strong wind.

Friday: Scattered rain showers until 2 PM, then cloudy. High 47. SW wind of 10-15 MPH.

Some Clouds

High clouds will come into the area on Thursday and temps will hold in the 40's. Then a front will approach on Friday with rain showers possible. And it now appears that Saturday will dry out by afternoon, but it will be windy. Also, some snow is possible on Sunday as arctic air comes into the area.

Tonight: Clear with lows near 27 in Boston and 17 in the coldest suburbs.

Thursday: Sunny in the morning, then a mix of sun and clouds in the afternoon. High 45. SW wind of 10-15 MPH.

Thursday night: Mostly cloudy with lows in the upper 30's.

Friday: Cloudy with scattered rain showers. Highs in the mid 40's.

Friday night: Cloudy with rain showers possible. Lows around 40.

Saturday: A rain shower possible early, then becoming partly sunny. Windy with highs in the upper 40's.

Sunday: Snow showers possible. Cold with highs in the low 30's. Stay tuned!

Forecast Update

Sunny skies will rule the weather over the next few days and temps will hold in the 40's on Wednesday and Thursday. Then a warm front will approach the area on Friday and temps may near 50. Then a storm may hit the area over the weekend and this point looks like rain.

Wednesday: Sunny and chilly. High 43. NW wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 25 MPH.

Friday: Mostly cloudy with highs near 50. Rain arrives at night.

Saturday Rain likely. Highs in the mid 40's.

Strong Storms

A strong storm will pass to our west and a strong cold front will cross the area on Monday morning. Ahead of the front showers and some storms will cross the area. And, winds will be very gusty during the passage. On Tuesday colder air will come into the area along with sunny skies. Temps will hold in the 40's for the middle of the week.

Tonight: Low clouds and fog with scattered showers, mist and drizzle this evening. Then showers with scattered thunderstorms late. Temps rising to 60 by dawn. South wind increasing to 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH late.

Monday: Showers with scattered thunderstorms until 9AM, then increasing sunshine. Temps near 65 by 9 AM, but falling to 55 by 4 PM. SW winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH.

Monday night: Clearing and colder. Lows in the mid 30's. West winds of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH.

Tuesday: Sunny and colder. Windy with highs in the mid 40's. NW winds of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Wednesday Sunny and cold. Highs in the low 40's.

Thursday: Sunny with highs in the 40's

Friday: Sunny with highs in the 40's.

US Weather: A major severe weather outbreak hit the Midwest today. About 80 tornadoes have been reported so far including major touchdowns. A reported EF4 tornado in Illinois leveled a whole town earlier this afternoon. And tornado watches include many major metro areas tonight.  Also the Chicago Bears football game was delayed about 2 hours because of the weather.

Storm Monday

Clouds will increase on Sunday along with a risk of a PM shower. Then a powerful cold front will cross the area on Monday leading to windswept showers. And there is even a threat of a thunderstorm Monday morning. After that cold air will come into the area on Monday afternoon. Cold air will stay in the area for Tuesday.

Tonight: Mostly clear with a low of 42.

Sunday: Partly sunny in the morning, then increasing clouds with a passing shower in the afternoon. High 58. SE wind of 10-20 MPH.

Sunday night: Scattered showers in the evening, then showers with scattered thunderstorms after midnight. Windy with lows with temps holding in the mid 50's. SE wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH.

Monday: Showers with scattered thunderstorms unit 2 PM, then becoming partly sunny. Windy with temps in the mid 60's in the morning, but then falling to the 50's late. SW wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH.

Monday night: Clearing and cooler. Lows in the upper 30's.

Tuesday: Sunny and windy. Highs in the low 40's.

Wednesday: Sunny with highs in the 40's

Some Clouds

Clouds will come in from the west on Saturday morning, but the sun should come out in the afternoon. On Sunday more clouds will come into the area but temps will hold in the 50's. Then a cold front will come thru on Monday with showers. After that temps will fall on Tuesday.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy with a sprinkle possible in the morning, then partly sunny in the afternoon. High 57. SE wind of 10-20 MPH.

Sunday night: Cloudy with scattered rain showers. Lows around 50.

Fab Friday

High pressure along with a SW wind will allow temps to soar to near 60 on  Friday. Some clouds will come into the area over the weekend but temps will remain in the 50's. Then some much needed rain will come into the area on Monday as a storm goes to our west.

Friday: Mostly sunny and nice. High 60. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with highs in the low 50's.

Monday: Rain and wind likely. Highs around 60.

Warmer Times

SW winds will come into the area on Thursday and temps will rise to near 50 with sunny skies. And Friday will be even warmer before clouds come into the area for the weekend. However, it should remain dry.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy but should stay dry. Highs in the low 50's.

Cold Wednesday

Skies will clear tonight and temps will fall into the teens in the suburbs and wind chill values will be close to 10. Then on Wednesday temps will hold in the 30's with sunny skies.  But, a SW wind on Thursday will allow temps to rebound a little. And temps may be above normal by late in the week.

Snow Forecast

A sharp cold front will cross the area Tuesday morning as rain showers change to snow showers. The snow could put down a quick coating during the morning commute. Then clearing will come into area on Tuesday afternoon along with a cold wind. Tuesday night will be the coldest of the season so far as some spots will drop into the teens. It will still be cold on Wednesday before SW winds moderate the temps.

Tonight: Cloudy until 3 AM, then rain showers mixed with snow. Low 32. SW winds of 10-20 MPH changing to NW late.

Tuesday: Snow showers until 9 AM, then increasing sunshine. High 37. NW winds of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH. Snow may coat the ground.

Tuesday night: Clear and very cold. Lows in the mid 20's in Boston and teens in some of the suburbs! NW wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH. Wind chill values as low as 10 above late.

Wednesday: Sunny and cold. Highs in the upper 30's.

Thursday; Sunny and becoming warmer. Highs around 50.

Snow Tuesday?

Temps on Veterans Day will rise to near 50 along with a gusty wind. Then a strong cold front will enter the area late Monday night with snow showers possible into first thing Tuesday morning. Then, the coldest air of the season so far will come into New England.

Tonight: Clear and windy. Low 37. NW winds of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH.

Veterans Day: Thanks to all the Vets! Sunny in the morning, then increasing clouds in the afternoon. High 50. West winds of 15-20 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Monday night: Cloudy in the evening, then scattered rain and snow showers after midnight.  Lows in the low 30's.

Tuesday: Scattered snow showers until 10 AM, then increasing sunshine. Cold with highs in the upper 30's,  No snow accumulation expected.

Wednesday: The storm goes out to sea. Sunny and cold. Highs in the upper 30's.

Thursday: Sunny and warmer. Highs around 50.

Friday: Sunny with highs in the 50's.

Tropics: At least 10,000 people are feared dead after the Super Typhoon caused unthinkable devastation in the Philippines. We all pray for everyone there.

Warmer Sunday

A warm front will cross the region on Sunday leading to some rain showers. For the Holiday on Monday temps will rise into the 50's along with a wind. Then on Tuesday some snow is possible in the morning as a strong cold front comes thru. Then a mid week storm looks like it will head out to sea.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with passing shower late. Low 40.

Sunday: Partly to mostly cloudy with a shower possible. Windy with a high of 53. West winds of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Sunday night: Clearing and still windy.  Lows in the upper 30's. West winds of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Veterans Day: A mix of sun and clouds and windy. Highs in the low 50's. West winds of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Monday night: Increasing clouds with scattered snow showers late. Lows in the low 30's.

Tuesday: Scattered snow showers in the morning, then partly sunny. Colder with highs around 40.

Wednesday: Storm likely heads out to sea. Highs in the upper 30's.

First Flakes

Some flakes fell this afternoon as some  precip snuck in from the west-including in Plymouth NH. Clouds will increase during the day on Saturday ahead of a weak front. Then temps on Sunday will rise into the 50's with some afternoon sun. For the holiday on Monday temps will stay in the 50's before a sharp cold front crosses the area. At this point a storm will head out to sea mid week.

Saturday: Mostly sunny in the morning, then increasing clouds in the afternoon. High 48. West wind of 10-20 MPH.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a rain or snow shower around early, then becoming sunny. Windy with highs in the mid 50's. West winds of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Weekend Forecast

Cold air will continue to come into the area overnight and temps will fall into the 30's by morning. On Friday temps will rise to near 50 along with a gusty wind. For Saturday clouds will come into the area in the afternoon with a warm front. Temps on Sunday will rise into the 50's before a more potent cold front will come thru on Monday.

Tropics: The Super Typhoon has made landfall with sustained winds of 195 MPH with gusts over 200 MPH! That makes it the most powerful storm to make landfall in world history!

Cold Front

A cold front will cross the area on Thursday with rain and gusty winds. Then cold air will come in behind the front and temps will stay in the 40's. Over the weekend Saturday will be dry with temps near 50 and Sunday will feature more clouds.

Boston forecast:

Tonight: Increasing clouds with temps rising to 55 by dawn. SW wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH late.

Thursday: Scattered showers in the morning, then showers in the afternoon. Windy with a high of 65. SW winds of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 40  MPH shifting to West late.

Thursday night: Clearing and chilly. Lows in the mid 30's. West winds diminishing to 10-20 MPH.

Friday: Sunny and windy. Highs in the upper 40's. West wind of 15-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH.

Saturday: Sunny with highs around 50.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a sprinkle possible. Highs in the low 50's.

Tropics; The super Typhoon now has winds of 175 MPH as it heads for the Philippines!

Showers Thursday

On Wednesday temps will rise above normal for the first time this week along with some sun. Then a cold front will come thru the area on Thursday with some rain showers. Cold air will follow behind the front for Friday.

Tropics : A Super Typhoon with winds of 160 MPH will hit the Philippines in a couple of days.

A Bit Warmer

Tuesday will be a dry day with temps rising well into the 40's,  Then on Wednesday winds will turn SW and temps will recover a bit. By Thursday a front will come in from the west with some rain likely. It should clear out by Friday.

The Week Ahead

High pressure will come into the area on Monday leading to a sunny and chilly day. Temps will rebound a bit on Tuesday and Wednesday along with sunny skies. Then a front will come in from the west by the end of the week with a chance of rain.

Tonight: Clear and cold. Lows near 32 in downtown Boston, 29 in JP and 23 in the suburbs.

Monday: Mostly sunny with a high of 43. NE wind of 10-15 MPH.

Monday night: Clear with lows in the low 30's.

Wednesday: Sunny and even warmer. Highs around 60.

Colder Sunday

A cold front will cross the area with a shower possible. That will lead to a colder Sunday and Monday. Temps will moderate during the middle or the week with some rain possible by late in the week.

Fall Back

Saturday will feature some sun and temps in the 60's for the Red Sox celebration. Then Sunday will be colder along with a risk of a shower. Monday will cool as well with temps holding in the 40's. Then, warmer temps will come back into the area by mid week.
