Blizzard!

A storm loaded with moisture will make a close pass to New England bring heavy snow and strong winds, especially along and south of the Mass. Pike. The most snow will be found in interior SE mass, but Boston will get a good amount. Whiteout conditions will likely occur between 1 PM and 8 PM, as the wind and the snow picks up. The snow will wind down before the morning commute on Thursday. Some towns have already called school, but Boston says they will wait until 11 PM to make a call. However, a snow emergency goes into effect at 8 AM in Boston!

is in effect for the Boston and points southward.

High Wind Warning in effect for the Cape and Islands.


Timeline: For Wednesday


8 AM: Snow starts west of 128, and on the south coast- New Bedford, Tanton, Providence area.

9 AM: Snow arrives in Boston

1 PM: Heavy snow arrives in Boston. Whiteout conditions likely, as wind gusts will approach 50 MPH.

3PM-9 PM: A wind-driven Heavy snow will create blizzard conditions at times. Although a switch to rain is likely on the Cape, and may mix with rain on the south coast- areas like New Bedford, Fall river.

9PM: Heavy snow ends in Boston

11 PM: Heavy snow on the south shore ends.

2 AM Thursday: Light snow ends.


Winds gusts: Strongest winds between 3 PM and 2 AM Thursday.

60 MPH: Cape and islands.

50 MPH: The south shore

45 MPH: The Boston area and the north shore.

40: Anywhere away from the Coastline.


Amounts: Not entirely set in stone.

12-16+: Interior Bristol and Plymouth counties points west to RI. Areas like Bridgewater, Taunton, Providence, Stoneham, Mansfield, Foxborough. Some isolated towns may pick up close to 20 inches.

8-12: The north shore through Boston points west along ( within 10 miles) the pike to Worcester and the south shore. Including Medford, Natick, Newton. About 10 inches in JP.

4-8: Northwest of 128. Areas like Bedford, Sudbury. Reading, Littleton.

2-4: Northwest of 495 and the Cape and Islands. Including Lowell, Littleton, Fitchburg, Groton, Bolton, Chatham, Nantucket.
