Cool and Dreary

Wow! The storm really intensified last night. It started looking like a tropical system, and not real sure why it was not named. Steady winds of close to 50 MPH with gusts over 60 were reported in the southern New Jersey area. It dumped close to 5 inches of rain near Philly as it slowly moved onshore early this morning along the Jersey coast. The storm has slowly drifted northward, and is directly over New York City. The storm is expected to move back over the open waters of the Atlantic, and move just south of Nantucket. The storm is expected to lose strength during the day tomorrow, but still spread rain northwards into southern New England. The wind will continue to gust to around 30 MPH on Cape and islands, and possibly close to 25 in the Boston area. However, the wind will not be a huge issue.  Because of an east flow it will stay showery and breezy here through early Sunday.

Red Sox forecast: Showers tonight, windy. Make sure to bring the rain gear. Temps around 60.  Expect at least a delay. Tomorrow-the field will still be wet, but the rain should be over.

Expect some rains for soccer practice, and the field will be wet. Maybe some heavy pockets of rain, especially over SE mass. However, it depends on your towns exact rules if it is cancelled or not.

Weekend forecast:

Tonight: Showers, Breezy. NE wind 10-20 MPH with gusts to around 30 MPH. Low 59. Patchy fog.

Saturday: Showers, Breezy. NE wind 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 mph. High 62. Patchy fog.

Saturday night: Raw. Cloudy with mist and drizzle, low 58. NE wind 10-15 MPH.

Sunday: Foggy and drizzly in the morning, then slow clearing. High 71. NE, shifting to SW 5-10 MPH.

Tropical Update: Fred was a major hurricane, and now has fizzled to a tropical storm with 70 MPH winds. The storm is still about 800 miles off  the cost of Africa, not expected to threaten any land. Watching thunderstorms off the coast of Texas for possible development.
