Wild Thursday night

The first rainstorm in a while will move in from the west Thursday evening. It will provide the region with downpours and some gusty thunderstorms as well. However, it is a fast mover so it will all be over by Friday morning. So, great weather will move in for the weekend. It now appears that Igor will pass very close to the island of Bermuda on Sunday as a major Hurricane, before turning NE and out to sea.

Hurricane Igor 5 PM stats:
Winds: 135 MPH
Cat 4
Moving WNW at 9 MPH
about 1000 miles SSE of Bermuda.

Alerts: A High Wind Watch is in effect south of Boston for Thursday night.

Tonight: Clear and chilly. Lows near 49 in Downtown Boston, 47 in JP and 38 in the coolest suburbs.

Thursday: Sunny in the morning, then cloudy until 7 PM. Then showers after 7 PM. High 68. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Thursday night: Showers in the evening, then showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Windy with near steady temps in the mid 60's. Some thunderstorms may produce frequent lightning and damaging winds after midnight. SE wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH on the Cape and Islands, and 40 MPH in the Boston area.

Friday: Showers and thunderstorms until 10 AM, then mostly cloudy. Breezy with highs in the upper 60's. NE wind of 15-25 MPH.

Saturday: A great day with deep blue skies and low humidity. Highs in the low 70's. Rough surf and rip currents from Igor way offshore.

Sunday: Sunny with highs in the mid 70's. Rough surf and rip currents continue.

Cool fact: Hurricane Julia is now a major Cat 3 hurricane with winds of 115 MPH way out in the east Atlantic. It is forecasted to head way out to sea. Earlier today it was a Cat 4 hurricane, which made it the first time since 1926 that we had two Cat 4 Hurricanes in the Atlantic at the same time.
