The heavy rain remains to the west of the Boston area tonight. However, we did get some downpours this afternoon up here in Plymouth. Tonight, the axis of the heavy rain will slowly shift eastward and arrive in Boston during the morning rush. Downpours will continue off and on until the evening hours. Although, when it is not pouring the rain will be steady. The strongest winds will come before the heavy rain-during the night tonight. But, there could be some windswept rain early tomorrow. The remains of Nicole may actually gain strength before crossing over the region tomorrow evening with additional showers. The weekend will be cool, but dry. Another storm may come into the NE next week, as we go from drought to flood throughout much of the East.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for the entire Boston area until noon Friday.

Flooding rains
While Nicole has lost its tropical circulation, it still has a lot of moisture with it as it sits just south of Miami. And, there is another gale center off the Carolina coast. The storm off the Carolina coast along with a cold front will bring heavy downpours from DC to Burlington, VT tomorrow as the storm moves northward. 6 to as much as 10 inches of rain are possible in those areas. Then, as the front sweeps towards the coast we will get in on the heavy rain on Thursday night and Friday. We will also be on the east side-which will bring damaging wind gusts even to the Boston area Thursday night into Friday morning. The remains of Nicole will make a close pass to New England coast Friday night which could bring more rain as a separate system. It is still unclear how close it will come. However, it should by dry and cool for the upcoming weekend.

TD 16
Tropical Depression 16 has formed south of Cuba. It is very disorganized, but is producing heavy rain in the Caribbean islands. The track takes across Florida west of Miami, then making another landfall along the Carolina Coast Thursday as Tropical Storm Nicole. Then, turning north and head up the east coast and come into MA around the Worcester area as a remnant low on Thursday night. On that track the heavy rain would be to the west of the Center at first, but then come east as the storm passes by. 6+ inches of rain are possible from DC to NYC over the next few days. That track would also put the Boston area on the windy side. Some gusts could approach 50 MPH, if it holds together. However, it should clear out for the weekend as a cool blast from Canada comes down.
Boston, MA forecast:
Tonight: Fog and humid with scattered showers. Low 65. South wind of 10-20 MPH.
Wednesday: Fog until 9AM, then partly sunny. Warm and still humid with a high of 80. NW wind of 10-20 MPH.
Wednesday night: Increasing clouds with lows around 60.
Thursday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Heavy rain to the west of Worcester. Humid and windy with highs in the upper 70's. This is subject to change based on the track of Nicole. Wind gusts over 40 MPH possible. Stay tuned!
Friday:Depending on the speed of the remains of Nicole it could be wet and windy. Currently, it looks like the rain will be over by mid morning followed by partial clearing. Highs around 70.
Saturday: Partly sunny and cool. Highs in the low 60's.
Sunday: Partly sunny with highs around 60.

Feel of Fall
Today turned out to be a great day up here in NH as temps reached close to 70 with a mix of sun and clouds. Tonight will be the coolest so far as many places outside Boston drop into the low to mid 40's. Wednesday and Thursday will be dry days as temps reach close to 70. Then, a low pressure system comes in from the west giving the region a soaking rain.
Triple trouble: Hurricane Igor remains very strong with winds of 145 MPH late this evening as it continues to move WNW about 400 miles east of the Leeward islands. It will track very close to Bermuda this weekend as a major Hurricane. After that most signs point that it will head out to sea, but we will need to watch it closely just in case. Hurricane Julia has now formed way out in the East Atlantic- off the coast of Africa with winds of 85 MPH. This is most definately headed out to sea at some point next week. And, Tropical Storm Karl has formed off the Mexican coast and is expected to head towards the Texas/Mex border this weekend.
Boston, MA forecast:
Tonight: Clear and chilly. Lows near 55 in Downtown Boston, 53 in JP and 42 in the coolest suburbs.
Wednesday: A mix of sun and clouds. Breezy with a high of 69. NW wind of 15-25 MPH.
Wednesday night: Clear, lows mainly in the 40's.
Thursday: Sunny in the morning, then increasing clouds in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 60's.
Thursday night: Periods of rain. Lows around 60.
Friday: Rain ending early, then clearing. Highs in the low 70's.
Saturday: Sunny with highs in the upper 70's. All eyes turn to Igor to see how close it will come.

Intense Igor
Hurricane Igor has intisfied into a Cat 4 with winds of 150 MPH. It is a monster storm, it would cover an area from Dallas, TX to Washington DC. Currently, the storm is about 750 miles east of the Leeward islands as it moves west at around 10 MPH. It may become a Cat 5 ( 156 MPH+) over the next day or so, before it turns to the NW and weakens slowly. It is expected to head towards Bermuda this weekend. All signs point to Igor turning NE from Bermuda and heading out to sea on Sunday, but I can't be certain at this early stage. Stay tuned throughout the week.
Showers and storms are coming through the Boston area as of 7 PM, but it will clear out by tomorrow afternoon. Then, cooler air comes into New England for the rest of the week. A soaking rain may come in on Friday.
Boston, MA forecast:
Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms until 9 PM, then mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Lows in the mid 50's. Some storms may be severe before 9 PM.
Tuesday: Cloudy until 10 AM with scattered showers, then a mix of sun and clouds. Warmer with a high of 73. West wind of 10-15 MPH.
Tuesday night: Clearing and chilly. Lows in the 40's.
Wednesday: A mix of sun and clouds. Cool with highs in the low 60's. NW wind of 15-20 MPH.
Thursday: Increasing clouds with highs in the mid 60's.
Friday: A widespread rain seems likely at this point, but could change if the storm track shifts. Highs around 60.
Wild weather: Severe thunderstorms came through NYC tonight causing a delay of the Ravens- Jets football game. A NFL game is only delayed if dangerous lightning threatens the area. The Patriots have played through several blizzards throughout the years, including playoff games. The game is scheduled to start about 25 minutes late.

Here Comes Earl
A Hurricane Watch has been issued for the Cape and the Islands. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Boston. If you are on The Cape and Islands now is the time to start preparing. The latest track is closer- as it takes the Hurricane about 30 miles east of the Cape. It will be a Category 2 Hurricane as it passes Southern New England. And, I can't totally rule out a landfall here in Southern New England on Friday night. The biggest threat with this current track would be downpours in the Boston area that would create flooding. But wind gusts over 80 MPH can't be ruled out on the outer Cape and Nantucket- as the wind would be a bigger issue there. I suggest delaying a trip to the Cape to Saturday afternoon if you are planning to head there for the weekend. Stay tuned for more updates!
As of 5 PM Hurricane Earl is a CAT 4 with winds of 135 MPH, and it is about 200 miles to the east of the Bahamas. It is expected to hit the outer banks of North Carolina tomorrow night, as evacuations are underway there.
Boston, MA forecast:
Tonight: Clear, but still stuffy. Lows in the mid 70's.
Thursday: Hazy, hot and humid. High 94. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.
Thursday night: Increasing clouds with lows around 70.
Hurricane Earl Forecast: Assuming the current track.
Friday Morning: Clouds overtake the region as the breeze picks up.
Friday noon-3 PM: Rain starts to fall on the Cape and Islands. Wind gusts to 40 MPH on the Cape, and 25 MPH in Boston.
Friday 3-7 PM: Hurricane Conditions Probable on the Cape and Islands. Tropical Storm conditons probable in Boston. Heavy rain may create flooding. Wind gusts as high as 75 MPH on the Cape and 45 MPH in Boston.
Friday night: Hurricane Earl makes a close pass to Nantucket with winds around 100 MPH. Heavy rain with winds as high as 80 MPH on the Cape and 50 MPH in Boston. The heavy rain continues as waves bulid to between 20-25 FT creating a big storm surge.
Saturday: Skies clear out by late morning as Hurricane Earl races towards Nova Scotia.
I suggest making preps now for the Hurricane. Make sure you have a flashlight ready and bring in any loose outdoor objects. Also, just have some extra food or water for the storm. Stay out of the water through Saturday as rip currents remain a threat.
Stay tuned for more updates over the next day or so.
