Frost Advisory

A Frost Advisory has been issued for all of MA, away from the south coastline and the city center of Boston for tonight.  Temps are expected to dip into the low to mid 30's which will create areas of Frost. A Freeze Warning is in effect for the Plymouth, NH area and west of Worcester temps will dip into the upper 20's there.  

The Frost Advisory area includes locations like: Brookline, Cambridge, Concord, Westwood, Brockton and Lowell. 

In JP area I expect temps to drop to around 36 or 37 by dawn Sunday. That may create some patchy frost in the usual coolest locations, but a widespread frost is not expected.

Double Rainbow

Up at PSU yesterday I was walking along main street and right in front of me was a rainbow. I walked a little further and all of a sudden the sky opened up and it started to pour, so I raced under a roof for cover. Then, as I walked on the other side of the storm there were 2 rainbows visible next to each other as they went all the way across the sky. It lasted several minutes and it was an awesome sight.

The long weekend will be great with sunny skies and fall like temps. Frost is likely on Saturday night as the wind drops and sky clears out-mainly north and west of Boston. However, some patchy frost is possible in the JP area.

Boston, MA forecast:

Tonight: Partly cloudy with a sprinkle possible around 2 AM. Lows near 50 in Downtown Boston, 48 in JP and 45 in the suburbs.

Saturday: Sunny and windy. High 60. NW wind of 15-25 MPH.

Saturday night: Clear with widespread frost. Chilly with lows near 40 in Downtown Boston, 37 in JP and 32 in most suburbs. Bring your plants in!

Sunday: Mostly sunny with highs in the upper 60's.

Columbus Day: Sunny in the morning, then increasing clouds in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 60's.

Tuesday: Showers possible in the morning, then clearing possible in the afternoon. Highs in the low 60's.

Hurricane Otto: Hurricane Otto now has winds of 80 MPH as it rapidly moves NE and south of Bermuda. It may effect the Azores early next week, otherwise it is a fish storm. Before turning NE today it dumped 15 inches of rain on St. Thomas.

Brighter Ahead

The rain has moved on from the Boston area, and even up here at PSU the rain has ended. Now, the sun will come out tomorrow afternoon and last through the holiday weekend. A weak cool front with no rain will come through on Friday night, providing us with a cooler Saturday. After a frosty start on Sunday morning, temps will rebound nicely back into the 60's with sunny skies.

Thursday: Cloudy until 11 AM, then increasing sunshine. High 67. West wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Saturday: Sunny and cooler. Highs around 60.

Tropics: Tropical Storm Otto has formed with winds of 60 MPH near Puerto Rico. The storm will turn NE tomorrow and head out to sea.

Wet Wednesday

The storm that has been stalled to our south the last few days will come through our area tomorrow providing us with a soaking rain, especially in the morning. Then, the winds will switch to the west and dry air will come back into New England for the long weekend. However, it will become cooler at night and our first frost is possible on Saturday night.

Alert: A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect for the MA coastline for Wednesday.

Tonight: Low clouds and fog with mist and occasional showers. Low 52. NE wind of 10-20 MPH.



Wednesday: Rain with rumbles of thunder possible until 4 PM, then mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Breezy with a high of 60. NE wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH.
1-1.5 inches of rain expected.



Wednesday night: Scattered showers in the evening, then mostly cloudy after midnight. Lows in the low 50's.



Thursday: Mostly cloudy in the morning, then increasing sunshine in the afternoon. Warmer with highs in the upper 60's. West wind of 15-25 MPH.



Friday: A great October day with sunny skies and highs in the low 70's.



Saturday: Sunny, but cooler. Highs in the upper 50's.



Sunday: Sunny with highs around 60.


Columbus Day: Increasing clouds with highs in the mid 60's.

Tropics: Tropical Storm Otto is forecasted to form near Peurto Rico over the next day or so.

Weak Nor'easter

A low pressure system will sit south of New England for days as it weakens slowly. It will provide the Boston area with periodic rain and drizzle for Monday and Tuesday along with a gusty NE wind. Then, a stronger low will come up the coast and push that first one out to sea as it gives us a heavier period of rain. It should clear out at the end of the week.

Boston, MA forecast:

Tonight: Thickening clouds with drizzle and light showers after midnight. Low 50. NE wind of 15-20 MPH.

Monday: Low clouds with periodic showers and drizzle. Raw with a high of 55. NE wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.

Monday night: Drizzle and showers continue. Lows around 50. NE wind of 15-20 MPH.

Tuesday: Less rain than Monday, but drizzle and showers persist. Highs around 60. NE wind of 15-20 MPH.

Wednesday: A steady rain arrives in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 50's with a strong NE wind.
Coastal flooding is possible.

Thursday: Rain early, then clearing possible. Highs in the low 60's.

Friday: Sunny with highs around 65.

Tropics: Disorganized showers and storms may become Otto at some point this week south of the DR.

More wind than water

Well, the wind was quite impressive this morning in the Boston area. Many trees were down including several in the Hyde Park area and one down on Storrow drive. Then, the rain came although not as heavy or as quick as I was expecting. But, some downpours did eventually come through the Boston area. Now, it will clear out for the weekend. Although, it will be a crisp feel during the day and frost is possible at night. Another nor'easter may effect the region early next week.

Tonight: Showers until 2 AM, then partial clearing. Clear with a low of 49. NW wind of 15-25 MPH.

Saturday: A nice fall day with sunny skies and a high of 66. NW wind of 10-20 MPH. A great day for a 5K!

Saturday night: Clear with lows near 48 in Boston, 46 in 36 in some of the coolest suburbs. Frost is possible in some isolated locations.

Sunday: Partly to mostly cloudy. Cool with highs in the upper 50's.

Monday: Another storm may effect the region with rain and strong winds for days. Highs in the 50's. Stay tuned!

AM Update-High Wind Warning

A High Wind Warning has now been issued for the Boston area. The heavy rain is just now entering the Worcester area as of 945 AM. And it just started up here at PSU. When I looked out my window it was dry, by the time I made it outside about 30 seconds later it was pouring sideways with wind gusts over 40 MPH. Record flooding of the Pemmi river up here at Plymouth is possible- A Flood Warning is in effect up here. Anyway, the downpours will move into Boston between 1030 and 11 AM and continue through 3 PM. When the rain comes down the heaviest, the wind could gust as high as 60 MPH. These winds will bring down branches and even some trees and power lines. Be careful during the height of the storm.

A Flood Watch is still in effect for all of the area. I still expect 2-4 Inches of rain in a very short period of time.

Important Reminder: Remember not to drive through any flooded intersections or underpasses. Also-definitely avoid the J-Way and Storrow drive for the evening commute.


Timeline:

BY 11 AM: Downpours arrive in Boston. Wind gusts to 60 MPH possible.

3 PM: Downpours move to the south shore, steady rain continues. Wind shifts to the North, temp starts dropping.

8 PM: Showers end in Boston. Temps around 60.
