Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone and thanks for checking out my blog. The weather for the first day of 2017 will be sunny with temps in the low 40's. And then a storm will bring more rain by Monday night and Tuesday.

Drying Out

Rain changed to snow this evening and accumulated a little here in JP. And as the storm intensified there was even thunder snow. Now, winds will gust past 50 MPH tonight as skies clear. The sun will return on Friday along with gusty winds. Over the weekend some light snow is likely.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Boston area until 6 AM Friday.

A High Wind Warning is in effect for Cape Ann and Cape Cod.

Tonight: Any rain and snow ends. Low 32. NW wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 55 MPH.

Mainly Rain

A powerful storm will bring mainly rain and strong winds to the Boston area. It may start out as snow late morning but will quickly change to rain. Heavy rain will continue through the evening. As the storm passes to our north winds will change to the west leading to colder air coming back into the area. So it may end as snow before ending.

A High Wind Watch is in effect for the Boston area for Thursday night.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect NW of rte. 128 for Thursday

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for northern and western New England. Over a foot of snow is possible there!

Boston forecast:

Tonight: Increasing clouds with a low of 30.

Thursday:  Any snow in the morning quickly changes to heavy rain. High 40. SE wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH. No accumulation expected in Boston.

Thursday night: Heavy rain changes to snow before ending. Lows around 30. West wind of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH. Snow may coat the ground.

Friday: Mostly sunny with highs in the upper 30's.

Storm Thursday

Wednesday will be the calm before the storm with sunny skies and temps near 40. Then a powerful storm will impact the area Thursday afternoon into Thursday night. It appears that it will be mainly rain in Boston ending as snow. And there is potential for some accumulation.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect west of route 128 for Thursday.

A storm will bring rain and wind to the area tonight into Tuesday morning. And temps will rise into the low 50's by morning. Wednesday will be dry before a nor'easter threatens the area on Thursday.

Tonight: Periods of rain. Temps rise to 50 by dawn. SW wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH.

Tuesday: Any rain ends by 8 AM, then becoming mostly sunny. Temps near 53 in the morning will fall to 45 by 4 PM. West wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH.

Snow will arrive in the wee hours of the morning and continue through the morning before ending as rain. However, several inches of snow now appears likely. After temps rise above freezing  in the early afternoon winds will change to the north and a flash freeze is likely. Rain and warm temps are likely by Sunday.

Saturday: Snow in the morning, then areas of rain, freezing rain and sleet in the afternoon. High 35. East wind of 10-20 MPH changing to NW late. Total snow amounts of 3-5 inches expected.

Saturday night: Areas of freezing drizzle and drizzle early, then scattered rain showers late. Temps rising into the upper 40's.

Arctic air will continue to come into the area tonight along with damaging winds. Friday will be cold and windy along with sunny skies. Then a storm will effect the area on Saturday. It will start as snow but as warmer air comes up from the south the snow will change to rain. However, a few inches of snow is likely before then.

A High Wind Warning is in effect for all of the Boston area until 5 AM Friday.

A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for the Boston area until 9 AM Friday.

Tonight: Any snow squalls fade to clearing skies. Damaging winds with a low of 2 ABOVE. West wind of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH. Wind chill values as low as 20 BELOW late.

Friday: Sunny and frigid. Windy with a high of 17. West wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH. Wind chill values as low as 20 BELOW before 9 AM.

Friday night: Increasing clouds early, then snow late. Lows around 10.

Saturday: Snow in the morning, then rain in the afternoon. Highs around 40. Total snow amounts of 2-4 inches expected.

Dangerous Cold

A cold front will cross the region Thursday morning with a snow shower and cold winds. Temps in the mid 20's in the morning will fall during the day along with increasing winds. A secondary front will bring dangerous cold and damaging winds on Thursday night. And temps on Friday will hold in the teens. By Saturday a snow to rain scenario seems likely.

Some Snow

Clouds will increase on Sunday ahead of our next storm. Snow will arrive after dark on Sunday and continue steadily for the overnight hours. By daybreak on Monday snow will change to rain. But a few inches of snow is likely by morning. It will then rain during the morning on Monday.

Tonight: Clear and frigid. Lows near 20 in Boston and 10 in the suburbs.

Sunday: Increasing clouds with a high of 32. SW wind 10-20 MPH.

Sunday night: Cloudy until 9 PM, then snow. Lows around 30. East wind of 10-20 MPH.

Monday: Any snow changes to rain by 7 AM, then rain. Highs in the upper 30s'. Total snow amounts of 1-2 inches likely.

Saturday will be the coldest day of the season so far with a winter wind. It now appears that Sunday will be dry as the storm is slower moving in. The storm will bring snow changing to rain Sunday night into Monday morning. And a few inches of snow are likely before the change over.
