The stronger storm will head out to sea, while a weaker storm will travel to our west. A trough will run in between the storms, and that will cause banding of the snow. Where this sets up in New England will determine how much snow we get. At this point, it seems to set up over SW CT, giving them 6+ inches of snow, and us 3-5 inches over a 24 hour period. However, it could shift NE, dropping several inches of snow in the Boston area, although it seems unlikely. The amount will be determined by tomorrow.

Tonight: Clear with lows near 22 in Boston, 19 in JP and 15 in the suburbs.
Thursday: Sunny until 11 AM, then cloudy. High 32. SE wind of 10-15 MPH.
Thursday night: Cloudy with lows in the low 20's.
Friday: Cloudy until 1 PM, then periods of snow. High 34. Snow amounts around 1 inch possible.
Friday night: Periods of snow. Lows in the mid 20's. 1-2 inches of additional snow expected. Could be more if the band sets up closer to us.
Saturday: Periods of snow. Highs in the low 30's. Total snow amounts of 3-5 inches possible. Stay tuned for more updates.
Sunday: Clearing with highs in the mid 30's.
2010 Weather: 2010 was the warmest year on record in Boston, with the Avg temp of 52.1, breaking the old record of 51.9. Precip was above normal, with nearly 50 inches and the avg around 43 inches. Snowfall was right around avg for the year.
Do you think a community meeting scheduled for Saturday morning will be cancelled? I'm hoping for that ban and another foot or two! Keep us posted. Your blog is much better reading than the weather websites.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it will be cancelled, although it looks like the steadiest snow will be Friday night into Saturday morning.I will post my latest thinking on snow totals later today.
