Messy Mix

Our first messy storm of the season will bring a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain to the area Tuesday. Precip will start everywhere as snow, then from SE to NW change to ice and then rain. It will begin to mix in Boston at around 11 AM, and change to rain by 1 PM. Significant snow and ice amounts will fall NW of the city. Another storm is possible at the end of the week.

is in effect for the Boston area until 2 PM.

A Winter Storm Warning
is in effect NW of rte. 495.


Boston, MA forecast:

Tonight: Increasing clouds with lows near 12, but rising to 25 by dawn.

Tuesday storm Timeline:

7 AM: Snow arrives in the Worcester to Providence corridor.

8 AM: Snow arrives in Boston. Temps around 27.

11 AM: Snow changes to sleet in Boston. Very brief period of sleet around Boston-not much ice accumulation expected. Temps around freezing.

1 PM: Changes to all rain in Boston. Temps in the mid 30's with an east wind of 15-20 MPH.

2 PM- 7 PM: Heavy rain. Temps rising to the upper 30's. Watch out for flooding and ponding on roads. Freezing rain well NW of Boston with significant ice buildup possible there. East wind of 15-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH.

8-10 PM: Rain may change back to a brief period of freezing rain or sleet before ending, although after the commute. Tough call at this point.

1-3:
Boston out to 128. Around 2 inches in JP, washed away by rain. More ice buildup and snow expected NW of 128.

.75-1: Boston out to 128.


Rest of the week forecast:

Wednesday: Breaks of sun in the morning with temps in the upper 30's, then falling into the low 30's in the afternoon with scattered snow showers. Not much snow expected.

Wednesday night: Snow showers possible in the evening, then clearing. Lows around 20.

Thursday: Sunny with highs around 30.

Friday: Another snowstorm is possible. Highs in the 20's. Stay tuned!
