A Hurricane Watch has been issued for the Cape and the Islands. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Boston. If you are on The Cape and Islands now is the time to start preparing. The latest track is closer- as it takes the Hurricane about 30 miles east of the Cape. It will be a Category 2 Hurricane as it passes Southern New England. And, I can't totally rule out a landfall here in Southern New England on Friday night. The biggest threat with this current track would be downpours in the Boston area that would create flooding. But wind gusts over 80 MPH can't be ruled out on the outer Cape and Nantucket- as the wind would be a bigger issue there. I suggest delaying a trip to the Cape to Saturday afternoon if you are planning to head there for the weekend. Stay tuned for more updates!
As of 5 PM Hurricane Earl is a CAT 4 with winds of 135 MPH, and it is about 200 miles to the east of the Bahamas. It is expected to hit the outer banks of North Carolina tomorrow night, as evacuations are underway there.
Boston, MA forecast:
Tonight: Clear, but still stuffy. Lows in the mid 70's.
Thursday: Hazy, hot and humid. High 94. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Hurricane Earl Forecast: Assuming the current track.
Friday Morning: Clouds overtake the region as the breeze picks up.
Friday noon-3 PM: Rain starts to fall on the Cape and Islands. Wind gusts to 40 MPH on the Cape, and 25 MPH in Boston.
Friday 3-7 PM: Hurricane Conditions Probable on the Cape and Islands. Tropical Storm conditons probable in Boston. Heavy rain may create flooding. Wind gusts as high as 75 MPH on the Cape and 45 MPH in Boston.
Friday night: Hurricane Earl makes a close pass to Nantucket with winds around 100 MPH. Heavy rain with winds as high as 80 MPH on the Cape and 50 MPH in Boston. The heavy rain continues as waves bulid to between 20-25 FT creating a big storm surge.
Saturday: Skies clear out by late morning as Hurricane Earl races towards Nova Scotia.
I suggest making preps now for the Hurricane. Make sure you have a flashlight ready and bring in any loose outdoor objects. Also, just have some extra food or water for the storm. Stay out of the water through Saturday as rip currents remain a threat.
Stay tuned for more updates over the next day or so.
