Earl PM update

The track of Earl has shifted a little bit to the east-about 30 miles or so. However, that is all it takes to keep the strongest winds offshore and bring less wind to Boston. A Hurricane Warning remains in effect for the Cape and Islands. However, Tropical Storm warning has been dropped for Boston, but some gusty winds are still expected. I expect the heavy rain to arrive at around 5 PM in Boston, and earlier on the Cape. The eye of the storm should pass Southern New England around 1 AM tonight as a minor Cat 1.

2 PM Stats:
Hurricane Earl

Max winds: 80 MPH
Category 1
Moving NNE at 24 MPH.
200 miles SSW of Nantucket, MA

Next update at 5

A turn to the NE is expected very soon, but a small delay in that turn could make a huge difference. Stay tuned for more updates on the expected track.

Peak wind gusts expected during the storm:

70 MPH: The outer Cape and nantucket -Hurricane Warning.

60 MPH: The western part of the Cape and the Vineyard-Hurricane Warning

50 MPH: The South Shore: Tropical Storm warning

40 MPH: Boston and south of Boston (not along coast).

Other Warnings:

Flash flood watch: Most of the area-including Boston, 3-5 inches of rain can be expected in a small time period. Urban floooding is possible in JP.

Another update tonight.
