It will be a fantastic day for umping a game at 9 AM, followed by wake up the earth in the afternoon. It will be mostly sunny with highs mainly in the 70's as the warm front stalls in western MA. Then, the warm front will charge through on Saturday night and bring hit heat and humidity for Sunday. However, no rain is expected on Saturday night.

Nice Weekend
Today was a very windy day with temps hitting 60. However, the wind died down for the game I umped at 530 PM. Temps tomorrow will hit the 70's with deep blue skies. Then, a warm front will try to come through on Saturday, but it won't make it all the way to the coast. So it will be cooler in Boston than areas to the west. But the front will come through on Sunday and we will have our first triple H day of the year (hazy, hot and humid).

It is expected to reach the Miss. river this weekend causing major havoc to birds, fish and other animals. This could be worse than the Exxon spill in Alaska in the 80's.

Rain Update
The storm is much slower than anyone anticipated, so the rain is still an hour and half to two hours away from Boston. Skies became mostly sunny for some time early this afternoon, but now clouds are filling back in. The rain will start of light, but gradually pick up in intensity. Unfortunately, the rain may arrive right around the start of my brother's game, if it has not already started. The rain will continue most of the night, before tapering off Tomorrow morning, Bring the rain gear to the game, if you are going.

We're Back!
We just got back from a great week-long trip to Washington DC, and it's great to see that all of our trees now have leaves. We got a tour of the White House on Friday and had other great stops earlier in the week such as the Holocaust Museum and the Capitol.
Today was a great day for a 5-hour drive home from PA, with sunny skies and temps around 70 the whole drive from PA. On Friday we drove from DC to PA, to stay with friends and it took us 5 hours as well. We really had great weather all week except for one rainy day, last Wed.
Now, a storm will come up the coast and graze us with some light rain tomorrow. Then, a second storm will come and give us a tad more rain Monday and Tuesday. However, it won't be raining the whole time and none of the rain will be too heavy.
Boston, MA forecast:
Tonight: Mostly cloudy with lows around 45.
Sunday: Cloudy until 1 PM, then light showers. High 57. A light east wind.
Sunday night: Periods of fog, mist and drizzle. Lows in the upper 40's.
Monday: Periods of mist and drizzle until 11 am, then rain. My brothers first baseball game is in doubt at 530. High 52. NE wind of 10-20 MPH.
Tuesday: Periods of rain in the morning, then scattered showers in the afternoon. Highs in the low 50's. NE winds of 10-20 MPH.
Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with showers possible, highs in the mid 50's.
Thursday: Clearing with highs near 60.
Severe weather: While I was in DC, I heard that many severe thunderstorms crossed the region on Thursday. According to a friend JP did not get a direct hit, but hail and lightning strikes were reported as close as Cambridge. And many places to the south of the city had downpours and 2 inch hailstones along with 60 MPH winds. It looked like a blizzard from the hail, and some car windows were smashed. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Hi from DC
I have been very busy here in Washington DC. We have been going to museums every day, and I have not had a lot of time to blog. We have had a great time so far, along with great weather. However, today it is raining and cool. A cold front will push the storm in the Mid-Atlanitc out to sea, but may produce showers Tonight and Thursday in Boston, but it won't be as widespread as it is here in DC. The weekend looks seasonable with temps around 60, before rain early next week.
Boston, MA forecast:
Wednesday: Sunny early, then increasing clouds. Warm with highs around 70. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.
Wednesday night: Cloudy with scattered showers possible after midnight. Lows in the 50's.
Thursday: Partly sunny until 2 PM, then cloudy with showers and scattered thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 60's. I don't expect severe thunderstorms.
Thursday night: Isolated thunderstorms until 8 PM, then turning mostly cloudy. Lows in the 40's.
Friday: Partly cloudy with highs around 60.
Saturday: Sunny with highs in the low 60's.
Sunday: Increasing clouds with rain arriving from west to east in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 50's.
Another earthquake: A 5.2 magnitude quake hit Western Australlia a couple of days ago, causing some damage. No injuries or deaths were reported.
Volcano: The Iceland volcano continues to spew ash, but the airlines are flying again. But nearly 100,000 flights have been cancelled since Thursday in Europe. Once again, we have to worry if it will set off Katla, as that would cause damage to the atmosphere and cause global cooling. Most scientists say when the small one erupts, Katla follows. However, the question is when.

Snow Saturday Night
Today was a cold, dark and damp day with some light rain showers around. The steady rain should arrive around 11 PM, allowing the Sox game to be squeezed in. Although, it will be cold and windy. The rain should continue steadily through the early afternoon, then taper off. However, at the tail end of the storm enough cold air will come down from the north to change the rain to brief period of steady snow before tapering to snow showers.
Boston, MA forecast:
Tonight: Light showers before 11 PM, then rain. Some wet snowflakes may mix. Lows around 36. East wind of 10-15 MPH.
Timeline for Saturday:
7 AM- 1 PM: Steady rain. NE of 10-20 MPH. We leave for Washington DC.
2 PM: Changes to snow NW of rte. 495.
3 PM: Changes to snow NW of rte. 128
5 PM: Changes to snow in Boston.
6 PM-6 AM Sunday: Snow showers. Temps dip into the low 30's.
Snow Amounts: By Sunday morning
1 inch: The Worcester hills and SW NH.
Coating: The rest of the Boston area, including JP. However, the snow will not stick to the pavement.
Sunday: Scattered snow showers until 9 AM, then scattered rain showers. Mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 40's.
Marathon Monday: A mix of sun and clouds with a tail wind. Temps near 45 at the start of the race, rising to 55 by 2 PM.

Back to Winter
An area of low pressure will approach the region tonight and light rain showers will arrive around dawn. Showers will continue through Friday, mostly light around midnight the steady rain arrives, and the precip continues through Saturday evening. It is a tough call for the Red Sox game that I have tickets for. As of now I expect temps to be around 40 with showers and a stiff east wind at 7 PM on Friday.
Boston, MA forecast:
Tonight: Increasing clouds with showers by 5 Am. Some wet snowflakes may mix in around Worcester. Low 37.
Friday: Light rain showers. Some wet snowflakes may mix in early around Worcester. Cold and windy with a high of 42. East wind 15-25 MPH.
Friday night: Showers until 11 PM, then rain. Some wet snowflakes may mix in after midnight. Lows around 38. Cold and wet for the Red Sox game.
Saturday: Rain until 3 PM, then rain, snow and sleet. Temps near 38 in the morning, but falling to 34 by 5 PM. A coating of snow is possible on the grass.
Saturday night: Rain, snow and until 9 PM, then snow showers after midnight. An additional coating is possible on the grass and cars. Lows around 30.
Sunday: A chance of snow showers in the morning, then mostly cloudy with scattered rain showers in the afternoon. Highs around 50.
Marathon Monday: Mostly cloudy with a tail wind. Highs in the mid 50's.
Snow totals: By Sunday morning
1-3 inches: Worcester points north and west into NH. Main Roads will just be wet, but some slide roads may become slick.
Coating to 1- North and west of 128.
Coating: The immediate Boston area. A coating is possible in JP on the grass and car tops.
Volcano Eruption: The same volcano that erupted in Iceland a couple of weeks ago erupted again. However, this time it was much bigger. It sent ash thousands of feet into the air. 4 flights were canceled from Logan to Europe, and London's airport was shut down. Many other airports in northern Europe were shut down because the ash would damage the plane's engines. Including Ireland, France, Norway and Germany. The wind patterns are expected to remain the same for a while, so the ash will continue for days.

April Snow?
Thursday will be another dry day, but temps will begin to fall in the afternoon. Then a small storm system will move very slowly and affect the region through the weekend. The precip will start on Thursday night and continue off and on thru Sunday morning. Although temps will be borderline in the Boston area, but I am leaning towards a mainly rain event. The most wintry precip will found NW of 495. On Saturday we will head to Washington DC for vacation. Due to the potential wintry situation I will blog as much as I can.
Lows this Morning:
Martha's Vineyard: 24
Bedford: 30
Norwood: 34
JP: 36 ( We had frost on our windshield this morning)
Boston: 42
Boston, MA forecast:
Tonight: Clear, but not as cold. Lows near 45 downtown, 41 in JP and 35 in the coldest suburbs. Some patchy frost is possible, but not as widespread as last night.
Thursday: Sunny until 2 PM, then increasing clouds. Temps reaching 60 around noon, but falling to 48 by 5 PM in Boston and along the coast. However, temps will rise to 63 west of 128. North wind shifting to east at 10-15 MPH.
Thursday night: Cloudy until 3 AM, then scattered showers. Lows around 40.
Friday: Showers in the morning, then rain possibly mixed with snow in the afternoon. Steady temps during the morning, but falling to 36 by 5 PM. The atmosphere will be cold enough for snow, so when the precip comes down hard it will snow. Some accumulation is possible NW of rte. 495, but none close to Boston. Windy with NE winds of 20-30 MPH.
Friday night: Rain mixed with snow. Near steady temps in the mid 30's. Accumulation seems likely NW of rte. 495. Very cold and wet for the Sox game at 7.
Saturday: Not a great day for driving to DC with rain mixed with snow until 10 AM, then rain. Highs around 40.
Saturday night: Surface temps might cool just enough to support mainly snow, but the heaviest precip may be over. As for now, rain changing to snow showers. A small accumulation is possible on grassy surfaces by Sunday morning. More details later.
Sunday: Snow showers mixed with rain until 9 AM, then scattered showers. Temps rising into the upper 40's
