Magic number:3

Another major nor'easter is headed our way for the first half of the week. It will bring heavy rain, strong winds and more flooding. If we pick up more than 3 inches of rain then the rivers will once again go over their banks. Unfortunately, I now expect 3-6 inches of rain for Monday thru Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. Jamaica Pond and the Muddy river will once again need to be watched for significant flooding. I also expect flooded basements, so make sure to take valuables upstairs tomorrow before the storm hits. Great weather will follow the storm at the end of the week with sunny skies and temps climbing into the 70's!

Alerts: A Flood Watch is in effect for the entire area. I expect this will be upgraded to a flood warning at some point during the storm.

Boston, MA forecast:

Tonight: Mainly clear with lows near 28 Downtown, 26 in JP and 22 outside of 128.

Sunday: Sunny until 3 PM, then increasing clouds. High 45. South wind of 10-20 MPH.

Sunday night: Clouding up with showers arriving by dawn. Lows around 40.

Monday: Showers in the morning evolve into a heavy rain in the afternoon. Windy with highs around 50. SE winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 45 MPH.

Monday night: Heavy rain. Windy with lows in the low 40's. Winds shifting to NE at 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH.

Tuesday: and Tuesday night: Heavy rain in the morning, then a steady rain in the afternoon and at night. Temps in the mid 40's. NE winds remaining strong.

Wednesday: Rain tapering off in the morning. Highs in the 40's as the wind slowly diminishes.

Rain totals:

3-6+: Seems likely over most of New England.

Extended: A pattern shift seems likely with sunny skies and temps warming into the 60's and 70's for the end of the week and next weekend.
