Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all and thanks for reading my blog! Have a fun, relaxing and safe holiday season! I hope to generate some more discussions in 2010, so please post any feedback you have.

Now to the weather: A storm that is causing major travel headaches in the middle part of the country will move this way for the weekend. This will be a mainly rain event for the Boston area; however, some freezing precip is possible at the very start. The rain will fall heavily at times through Sunday morning, and with the snow on the ground it may cause some flooding problems. There may be some snow on Monday, but it will not be a big event.

Timeline for Saturday

After midnight: Some freezing drizzle is possible. Watch for icy spots, temps in the 20's.

6AM-noon: Cloudy and breezy with flurries or freezing drizzle around. Temps below freezing early then rising to 34 by noon in Boston, but 20's north and west of 128.

noon: Steady precip begins to arrive from west to east. Freezing rain is likely north and west of Worcester.

2PM: Rain arrives west of 128, however, it may start as brief period of freezing rain where the cold remains at the surface. Sleet and freezing rain continue north and west of Worcester.

4 PM: Rain will arrive around 3 in Boston, and 4 PM on the Cape. Little if any freezing precip in Boston and along the coast by afternoon. Sleet and freezing rain continue north and west of Worcester.

6PM-10 AM: Rain, heavy at times and windy. Freezing rain moves into NH. Temps in the upper 30's all night. SE winds gusting over 40 MPH along the coast. Watch for flooding.

10 AM Sunday: Rain ends in Worcester.

Noon: Steady Rain ends in Boston,  but still some showers around. Otherwise, remaining mostly cloudy with temps in the low to mid 40's.

Accumulations

Sleet and freezing rain: A light glazing of ice is likely north and west of Worcester. Not much ice buildup inside of 495.

Rain: 1-2 inches of rain should fall over most of the area.

Monday: As cold air comes in behind the storm and a front comes through snow showers or light snow are likely. Some accumulation is possible. Temps in the mid 30's.  Stay tuned for details.
