 A major storm hit the region on Friday with high winds, heavy rain and coastal flooding. Winds caused damage all over the area and record coastal flooding in some areas. Now, temps will continue to fall and the wind will remain gusty for the Holiday weekend.

 The storm has started this evening and will continue to impact the area over the next day or so. It will bring heavy rain and damaging winds. The height of the storm will be in the morning, and temps will dramatically drop in the afternoon and evening. Strong winds will continue through the night.

Computer Crash

 Unfortunately, my computer crashed late last week and I have not been able to update my blog. Now, I plan on blogging as much as I can going forward. The next few days will be chilly and dry before a big storm at the end of the week. It will bring downpours, high winds and coastal flooding to the region on Friday. It will turn sharply colder behind the storm.

Storm Forecast

 A powerful long duration storm will impact the area Thursday night through Saturday morning, It will bring heavy rain, snow and strong winds to the region. It will start as rain in Boston on Thursday night and it will pour through the day on Friday and into Friday evening, But as colder air comes in behind the storm rain could change to snow even in Boston before ending. A small accumulation is possible. Plus, the wind could gust to 50 MPH at times on  Friday. 

Boston forecast :

Tonight: Clear and not as chilly. Low 28. 

Thursday; Any sun fades to cloudy skies. High 42. NE wind of 15-25 MPH. 

Thursday night; Cloudy in the evening, then rain late. Near steady temps around 40. NE wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH. 

Friday; Heavy rain. Highs in the low 40's. NE wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH. 

Friday night; Heavy rain in the evening, then a mix of rain and snow late. Lows in the low 30's. Wind changing to North at 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH. Total rainfall of 2-3 inches .

 It now appears that the storm will track further north, pushing the snow further  north. That means it will be mainly rain in the Boston area Tuesday night into Wednesday. It will remain cold behind the storm.

The Week Ahead

 A wintry week is ahead with below normal temps and a chance for our first flakes of the season. Monday will be cold and windy along with sunny skies. Clouds will then increase on Tuesday ahead of our next storm. The storm will bring a mix of rain and snow to the area Tuesday night before changing to all rain by Wednesday morning. No accumulation is expected at this point in the city.

Tracking Nicole

 Tropical Storm Nicole is expected to strengthen into a Hurricane tonight and hit the east coast of Florida before turning north and impacting all of the east coast. It will bring high winds and rain to New England Friday night into  Saturday morning.

 Sunday will be another amazingly warm day along with a passing shower and a gusty wind. More showers are possible on Monday, before clearing comes in the afternoon. Tuesday looks great, but much cooler as a cold front comes through. Then we may need to watch a potential tropical system late next week.

 A storm will form off the Carolina coast and come up and hit New England with heavy rain and damaging winds tonight through Friday morning. Rain will fall heavily at times through Friday morning. And it now appears  that the height of the wind will be Friday morning-right during the commute. Flooding is also likely as many inches of rain are expected. It should clear out for the weekend.

Ian's Impacts

 Our thoughts go out to everyone in SW Florida after major Hurricane Ian caused major damage. I hope everyone there has a speedy recovery. Now, Ian has become a Category 1 Hurricane again and will impact the Carolinas on Friday. After that Ian will climb the coast and bring us rain and wind this weekend. It is still unclear how far north the heavy rain will come.

Ian Update

 Major Hurricane Ian slammed into SW Florida today as a Category 4 Hurricane with winds of 150 MPH at about 3 PM this afternoon. Winds gusts up to 145 MPH produced widespread damage and power outages. And severe storm surge brought dangerous coastal flooding. In addition heavy rainfall caused inland flooding. Now, the storm will come off the Florida coast and may become a Hurricane again before hitting the Carolinas. By the weekend the remains of Ian will likely bring us some rain and wind- depending on the track of the storm.

Hurricane Ian

 Hurricane Ian  has intensified to a Category 2 Hurricane with winds of 105 MPH as of 11 PM Monday night. Ian will slam into the Tampa Bay area with dangerous winds, waves and rain on Wednesday. Then it may come up the coast into New England by the weekend. Stay tuned!

Fiona New England Impacts

 Major Hurricane Fiona will pass to our east on Friday. However, it will be close enough to bring some wind to the area. But, most of the rain will stay offshore. And waves will crash into our shores most of the  upcoming weekend. The storm will go on to slam Atlantic Canada with Hurricane Force winds and flooding rains.

Tracking Fiona

 Hurricane Fiona is now a major Hurricane with winds of 125 MPH. It is expected to become a powerful Category 4 Hurricane over the next few days. The latest track sends it a bit further West than yesterday at this time. Impacts here at this point seem to be gusty winds and high seas on Friday. Stay tuned for any watches or warnings over the next few days!

Fiona Update

Hurricane Fiona is expected to become a major Hurricane on Tuesday. It will then head towards Bermuda and turn north from there. The latest track sends the Hurricane a couple hundred miles east of New England by Friday, However, a shift to the West is still possible. Stay tuned!

Hurricane Fiona

 A front will bring scattered showers and storms to the area on Monday. Skies will clear for mid week and then all eyes will turn to Hurricane Fiona. The latest track sends it offshore of  the East coast by late in the week and on to Atlantic Canada. However, we will need to watch any shift to the west because of the size of the storm. The Week Ahead

 A warm front will bring much needed rain to the area on Monday afternoon and evening. More showers are possible on Tuesday before clearing for the end of the week.

Storm Possible Wednesday

A powerful storm will come up the coast and make a close pass to the area on Wednesday However, it is unclear on how close it may come. As one trustworthy model hammers us with inches of rain and high winds. Meanwhile another model says just a sideswipe with some rain and wind. Stay tuned for an update on Tuesday.

US Weather; Nearly a foot of rain fell in just a few hours in the St. Louis metro area today. That lead to many water rescues and people trapped. Meanwhile, here in Boston we have had the driest July on record so far, with only. 0.58 inches of rain falling all month long. And that puts the Boston area under severe drought!

 A strong cold front will finally bring an end to the heatwave with scattered severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening on Monday. Behind the front it will clear out and the humidity will drop. Some showers are possible late in the week.

 The heat and humidity continue to build over the next couple of days. On Wednesday temps should reach the mid 90's along with high humidity. By Thursday a front will approach the area bringing showers and severe storms. But, heat index values will be over 100 before it arrives. And air temps this weekend could touch 100 in some spots!

World Weather: London, England topped 40 Celsius-about 104 Fahrenheit -for the first time on Tuesday. That caused part of the runway at the airport to melt. And temps all over Western Europe smashed all time records also.
