Snowstorm Monday

Super Bowl Sunday will be quiet with sunny skies and temps in the 20's. Then an area of low pressure will hit the area on Monday leading to more heavy snow. The snow will start before dawn on Monday and last all day and into the evening. Also, the wind will increase during the day leading to blowing and drifting snow.

A Cold Weekend

It now appears that an area of low pressure will develop too far east to give heavy snow to the area tonight. On Saturday the sun will return, but it will be very cold and windy. Sunday will also be cold and will be dry for any Super Bowl parties. Then another major storm could the area on Monday.

Some Snow

A clipper system will come through the area on Friday morning leading to some snow. Occasional snow will last through the day. Then the storm will strengthen in the Gulf Of Maine leading to more snow overnight. However, the heaviest snow looks to fall in Maine. Saturday looks cold and windy and Sunday will also be cold.

More Snow

Thursday will feature sunny skies and temps near freezing. Then an area of low pressure will deliver some snow and rain on Thursday night into Friday morning. Then a more powerful storm will make a close pass to the area on Friday night, but at this point is just a graze. It will be a cold but dry weekend.

Storm Recap

The blizzard brought close to 3 FEET of snow in some isolated locations and around 2 FEET in the Boston area. And, it brought winds to Hurricane force in some coastal areas. The coastal flooding was also a big issue as many areas saw more flooding. Now, cold weather will continue along with some sun on Wednesday and Thursday before we watch another storm by Friday.

Blizzard Forecast

A powerful nor'easter will hit the area Monday night into Tuesday leading to a blockbluster blizzard. The steady snow will arrive on Monday evening and quickly become heavy. The heavy snow will last through Tuesday and into Tuesday night. That will lead to major snow totals with some areas nearing 2 FEET of snow! Winds will also be a major factor as gusts could come close to Hurricane force on the Cape and Islands. And. major coastal flooding is likely along the coast as well.

Dangerous Cold

Tonight will be the coldest night in a few years and temps drop close to 0 in Boston and BELOW 0 in most other locations. And, strong wind gusts will last into Thursday morning leading to dangerous wind chill values. Thursday will be sunny but very cold and the wind will slowly diminish in the afternoon. On Friday an area of low pressure will come in from the west leading to snow in the morning along with gusty winds.


Alerts:

A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for the Boston area until 11 AM Thursday


A Wind Chill Warning is in effect for northern and western New England. Wind chills could be as low as 55 BELOW!


A High Wind Watch is in effect for the Cape and Islands for Friday.

Boston forecast:


Tonight : Clear and bitterly cold. Lows near 0 in Boston, 2 BELOW in JP and 8 BELOW in the suburbs. NW wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH. Wind chill values as low as 30 BELOW late.


Thursday: Mostly sunny and breezy. High 18. NW wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH in the morning, diminishing to 10-20 late. Wind chill values as low as 30 BELOW before 11 AM.


Thursday night: Increasing clouds with temps holding in the teens.


Friday: Snow showers likely in the morning, then partly sunny in the afternoon. Windy with highs in the low 30's. SW wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH. A coating- 1 inch of snow is possible.


Saturday: Mostly sunny with highs in the upper 20's.


Sunday: Sunny with highs around 30.

Arctic Air

An arctic front will cross the area on Wednesday with scattered snow squalls. Any squall could produce brief heavy snow and strong winds reducing visibility. And, it has the potential to put down a quick inch of snow. Behind the front temps will fall BELOW 0 and the wind will pick up leading to dangerous wind chills. Thursday will be dry but very cold before more snow squalls are possible by Friday.


Alerts:

A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect from 5  PM Wednesday until 10 AM Thursday for the Boston area.


A Wind Chill Warning is in effect for most of Western and Northern New England- including here in Plymouth, NH. Wind chill values could get as low as 40 BELOW!

Tonight: Partly cloudy and cold. Low 12.


Wednesday: Partly sunny in the morning, then scattered snow squalls in the afternoon. High 23. NW wind increasing to 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH. Any squall could lead to a quick coating- 1 inch.

Wednesday night: Scattered snow squalls until 7 PM, then clearing and frigid. Windy with lows around 2 BELOW! NW wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH. Wind chill values as low as 30 BELOW late.


Thursday: Mostly sunny and very cold. Highs around 17. NW wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH. Wind chill values as low as 30 BELOW before 10 AM.


Friday: More snow squalls and snow showers possible. Highs around 30.

A Frigid Forecast

A strong cold front crossed the area today leading to strong winds and falling temps. Tuesday will be cold with a chance of snow showers late in the day as a weak storm heads just south of the area. On Wednesday an arctic front will come through New England with a chance of snow squalls. Behind that front the coldest air of the season will hit the area.


Boston forecast:

Tonight: Clearing and cold. Low 13. NW wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.


Tuesday: Mostly sunny in the morning, then increasing clouds with scattered snow showers in the afternoon. Cold with a high of 22. West wind of 10-20 MPH. Snow may coat the ground.


Tuesday night: Scattered snow showers in the evening, then partly cloudy. Lows around 15.


Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with scattered snow squalls in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 20's.


Wednesday night: Clearing and frigid. Lows below 0! Wind chill values as low as 30 BELOW possible.

Thursday: Sunny and windy. Highs around 17. Wind chill values as low as 30 BELOW in the morning.


Friday: More snow showers possible. Highs around 20.

SPECIAL: 2014 Year In Review

The winter was colder and snowier than normal. As the harsh cold lasted through March and into Early April. Then May and June were nice with average rain and comfy temps. July was marked by the close passage of Hurricane Arthur on July 4th and  he EF3 tornado that hit Revere late in the month. Fall started dry before a wetter pattern developed by late in the year.

Storm Update

The snow has changed to rain in the Boston area, but a few inches of snow did fall. The rain will fall through the night and off and on during the day on Sunday. And, temps will rise into the 50's along with a gusty wind. Then clearing will come into the area on Monday along with falling temps. Then  a weak storm may bring some snow late on Tuesday.

Saturday will feature increasing clouds with precipitation arriving by evening. It will start out as  snow but change pretty quickly to rain in Boston. And temps on Sunday will rise into the 50's along with a south wind. Colder air will come back into the area behind the storm and more snow is likely by Tuesday.

Weekend Storm

Friday will be a bit warmer than the past few days with temps reaching the upper 30's. On Saturday clouds will increase and a storm will arrive by evening. At this point it looks like it will start as snow in Boston before changing to rain. A few inches of snow is possible before the changeover, but it is mostly rain.

Tonight: Clear with a low of 25.


Friday: Mostly sunny with a high of 38. West wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH.


Friday night: Clear with lows around 20.


Saturday: Increasing clouds with highs in the low 30's.


Saturday: Snow in the evening, then rain late. Lows around 30, but rising into the upper 30's. Total snow amounts of 1-3 inches possible. Stay tuned for my detailed timeline on Friday!
