It is becoming more and more likely that Hurricane Irene will make a direct hit on New England on Sunday. No need to panic yet, but just make sure there is a plan in place to be prepared to be without power for days. The latest track would have Irene making landfall as a Category 1 or even 2 Hurricane on Sunday afternoon on the RI coast, then coming NE just west of Boston. This track has been the same over the last several model runs-so no reason that it would dramatically shift. Stay tuned for more details.

Hi Nolan -
ReplyDeleteWould you recommend any modification of the NS hike this weekend. The plan was to hike up Mt. Washington tomorrow (approaching from the west), hike down to Mt. Eisenhower on Saturday, and hike down from Mizpah Hut (also on the west side of the mts.) on Sunday. It looks to me like the biggest potential danger is the drive home on Sunday evening - do you agree?
Hiking on Friday and Saturday should be OK with rain arriving by Saturday night. Sunday will be pouring rain and flooding is the probably the biggest danger on the West side of the Mts. It is a little risky, but if you don't mind getting soaked it should be manageable. Have fun and stay safe!
