Track Shift
The latest track from the NHC takes it just east of NYC and then thru CT and western MA. On this track Boston would be spared Hurricane force winds and the heaviest rain, however wind gusts over 60 MPH would still be possible. This track puts the flooding rains in Western New England, and the strongest winds around NYC. If this track holds, then a major disaster is possible for NYC, with coastal flooding and winds near 100 MPH! However, I still believe that a shift closer to Boston is possible as Irene comes up the coast. Stay tuned for many updates over the next few days.

New England Hurricane Possible
It is becoming more and more likely that Hurricane Irene will make a direct hit on New England on Sunday. No need to panic yet, but just make sure there is a plan in place to be prepared to be without power for days. The latest track would have Irene making landfall as a Category 1 or even 2 Hurricane on Sunday afternoon on the RI coast, then coming NE just west of Boston. This track has been the same over the last several model runs-so no reason that it would dramatically shift. Stay tuned for more details.
