The Week Ahead

A cool front will come into the area on Monday leading to scattered severe storms in the afternoon. Tuesday and Wednesday will be less hot with a slim chance of a shower in the afternoon. Then, comfy air will come in for the end of the week.

Monday: Partly sunny until 3 PM, then scattered severe thunderstorms. Humid with a high of 90. SW wind of 10-15 MPH. Some storms will produce damaging winds, large hail and frequent lightning.

Wonderful Weekend

Rain will taper off later tonight, and dry air will come in from the west for the weekend. Saturday will be sunny and warmer as temps rise to near 90, but it will also be less humid. Sunday will also be sunny and not humid as temps rise well into the 80's.

Tonight: Showers with scattered thunderstorms this evening, then scattered showers and thunderstorms. Muggy with a low of 68.

Saturday: Sunny and less humid. High 90. NW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Saturday night: Clear with lows in the upper 60's.

Sunday: Sunny and dry. Highs in the mid 80's.

Monday: Partly sunny with scattered afternoon storms. Highs around 90.

Tropics: Tropical Storm Don has fizzled out after making an unimpressive landfall in south TX. Now we need to watch a cluster of storms in the central Atlantic expected to become Emily over the next few days.

Tracking Thunder

A warm front will come thru the area late tonight with a shower or storm possible. Tomorrow after some hazy midday sun a severe storm is possible in the evening as a cool front swings thru. It should clear out for the weekend as dry and warm air comes into the area.

Boston, MA forecast:

Tonight: Increasing clouds with scattered showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Low 67.

Friday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms until 9 AM, then partly sunny with widespread severe thunderstorms after 4 PM. High 80 with a SW wind of 15-20 MPH. Severe storms could contain big hail, damaging winds and frequent lightning.

Friday night: Scattered severe thunderstorms until 10 PM, then mostly cloudy. Some storms will contain big hail, damaging winds and frequent lightning. Still muggy with lows in the mid 60's.

Saturday: Sunny and dry. Breezy with highs around 90. NW wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH.

Sunday: Sunny with highs in the mid 80s.

TS Don: A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the southern TX coast. Don will make landfall tomorrow night with winds around 60 MPH. Some minor damage is possible, but the rain will be helpful because they are currently in a severe drought.

To the Beach!

Our annual camp trip to Cranes beach in Ipswich is tomorrow. It won't be as be as bright as today and there will be a sea breeze. But, still a decent beach day is expected. On Friday a warm front will bring in more showers and storms-not a great beach day. The weekend looks great for the beach, although it will be warmer.

Boston, MA forecast:

Tonight: Mostly clear with lows near 65 in Boston, 63 in JP and 56 in the suburbs.

Thursday: Mostly sunny in the morning, then partly sunny in the afternoon. Highs near 76 at the beach, 79 in JP and 84 inland. SE wind of 10-15 MPH.

Thursday night: Mostly cloudy with showers after midnight. Lows in the mid 60's.

Friday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Highs in the mid 70's.

Saturday: Sunny and dry. Highs around 90.

Sunday: Sunny with highs in the 80's.

TS Don: Tropical Storm (TS) Don has formed in the Gulf of Mexico just north of the Yucatan with winds of 40 MPH. It is expected to make landfall on the coast of TX late Friday as a strong TS.

Tornado Warning

Severe storms rolled thru MA early this evening, prompting a Tornado Warning for portions of Central MA. This warning included the same areas that were hit by a Tornado early in June, but no Tornado has been reported yet. The storms caused some damage before they weakened as they came into Boston. Wednesday and Thursday will be great late July days, before heat builds in for the weekend.

Tonight: Isolated thunderstorms this evening, then partly cloudy. Low 64.

Wednesday: Patchy fog early, otherwise sunny with low humidity. High 82. NW wind of 10-15 MPH.

Wednesday night: Clear with lows in the low 60's.

Improvement Ahead

Steady rain is tapering off this evening, but some more scattered storms are possible late tonight. After a foggy start the sun will come out as temps quickly rise into the 80's on Tuesday. As another weak front comes thru isolated nasty t-storms are possible late. Wednesday and Thursday look great and not too hot.

The cool front that came thru today is stalled south of the area and will lead to more showers late on Monday. Tuesday is mainly dry until another weak front may set off some storms. Wednesday is the pick of the week at this point, until heat and humidity try to come back for the end of the week.

Record!

The high temp of 103 in Boston today is the hottest temp ever recorded since the station moved to Logan. The only higher temp of 104 was set in 1911 near the Common. Now, Saturday will be another hot day with a slight risk of a late t-storm. On Sunday relief will finally arrive with temps in the 80's.

The height of the heat and humidity will come into the Boston area for Friday. 100 degrees is likely in Boston, with a chance of breaking the all time record of 102 at Logan. Another oppressive day is likely on Saturday before cooler air comes into the area.

An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for the immediate Boston area from noon to 6 PM Friday. An Excessive Heat Warning is issued when Heat index values are expected to range from 105-110.

An Heat Advisory is in effect for the rest of the area from noon to 8 PM Friday. This warning is issued when heat index values are expected to reach 100-105.

Note: The all time record for Boston is 104 set in 1911. However, that was when they took readings on the Common. The record is 102 set in the 70's after they moved the site to Logan.

Dangerous Heat

On Thursday temps will soar well into the 90's along with high humidity making it tough for outdoor activities. Friday will be a bit warmer with a chance of temps hitting the century mark! Saturday will also be hot and humid before relief arrives on Sunday.

Friday: Blazing sun and still humid with highs around 100! West wind of 10-20 MPH. Heat index values as high as 104 in the afternoon.

Sunday: Finally! Sunny with highs in the low 80's.

Tropics: Tropical Storm Bret now has winds of 45 MPH as it slowly heads NE and out to sea. Tropical Storm Cindy has formed NE of Bermuda, but will also head out to sea as it weakens.
In the East Pacific Hurricane Dora now has winds of 135 MPH and it may threaten the west coast of Mexico this weekend.

Heat Wave Ahead

The highest heat and humidity of the season so far will surge into New England for the end of the week. Wednesday will be like today with temps nearing 90. Thursday temps will soar well into the 90's along with high humidity. On Friday temps will have a chance to hit 100 as the heat peaks.

Alert: An Excessive Heat Watch is in effect for the Boston area from Noon to 8 PM on Thursday and Friday. Stay indoors as much as possible and drink plenty of water.

Tonight: Clear and OK for sleeping. Lows near 65 in Boston, 63 in JP and 57 in the suburbs.

Wednesday: Sunny and becoming hot. High 90 and still not too humid. SW wind of 10-15 MPH.

Thursday: Hazy, hot and humid. Breezy with highs in the upper 90's. SW wind of 15-20 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH. Heat index values up to 105 in the afternoon.

TS Bret: Tropical Storm Bret now has winds of 50 MPH as it slowly makes it way out to sea over the next few days.

Tropical Storm Bret

Tropical Storm Bret has formed in the Atlantic just north of the Bahamas with winds of 65 MPH. It is expected to turn NE and head out to sea over the next few days. As for us, the severe heat and humidity will come in for the end of the week, when it could become dangerous.

Heat is Back

Temps will rise back into the low 90's for my Birthday on Sunday as warm air surges in from the SW. Monday will be another hot and humid day before a cool front sets off some nasty t-storms late in the day. Tuesday we will have a brief break from the intense heat before it comes back into the area.

A Birthday Weekend!

My brother Geoffrey is turning 18 on Saturday and I am turning 20 on Sunday. IT will be a great weekend to celebrate with sunny skies and temps in the 80's. Also, Friday will be another winner with sunny skies and low humidity. Hot and humid weather may return early next week.

Slowly Improving

A cool front will cross the area on Wednesday leading to scattered severe storms and temps well into the 80's. On Thursday cool and refreshing air will come in as temps will hold in the 70's to near 80. Friday will also be not too hot and the nice weather should last thru our Birthday weekend.

A Break

Low pressure will ride along the stalled front bringing the region off and on showers throughout the day. Friday night showers will most widespread, but will end before Saturday morning. Sunday will be the pick of the weekend with sunny skies and nice summer temps. Early next week we may have to watch something Tropical forming on the East coast.

Tonight: Clear this evening, then increasing clouds. Low 63.

Friday: Cloudy with occasional showers. High 75. East wind of 10-20 MPH.

Friday night: I have tickets to the Red Sox game! A wet night at Fenway with showers most widespread during the evening. Lows in the mid 60's.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy until 8 AM, then sunny. Highs around 80.

Sunday: Sunny with highs in the mid 80's along with low humidity.

Tropics: Watching development off the West coast of FL that may eventually come up the East coast with a chance of developing. Stay tuned!

Dust Storm: A massive dust storm hit AZ on Tuesday that was at least a mile high and 100 miles wide. It covered Phoenix in dust and caused 10,000 power outages. Stay tuned for pictures later!

SEVERE Thunderstorm Watch

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the Boston area until 10 PM tonight. A line of strong to severe storms will come thru the area this evening. Be prepared to take cover when the storms come thru. On Thursday a few pop showers and storms are possible in the afternoon, but it is not a washout. A front will stall south of the area on Friday with late rain possible. The weekend looks OK at this point.

Tracking Thunder

After a great start to the holiday weekend, a cool front will come into the area on Sunday. This will lead to widespread thunderstorms in the afternoon-some could be severe. This could interfere with some fireworks displays around the area. On the 4th an isolated storm is possible before the Boston fireworks, but most places will stay dry.

Tonight: Partly cloudy with a with a low of 63.

Sunday: Partly sunny until 3 PM, then widespread severe thunderstorms. Breezy with a high of 83. SW wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 25 MPH. Some thunderstorms will produce small hail, gusty winds and frequent lightning.

Sunday night: Scattered severe thunderstorms until 10 PM, then mostly cloudy. Muggy with lows in the mid 60's. Some thunderstorms will produce small hail, gusty winds and frequent lightning.

4th of July Timeline:

Morning: Early fog leads to sun by mid morning. Temps in the 70's.

Afternoon: A mix of sun and clouds with a small risk of a thunderstorm. Temps near 80 at the beaches and 88 inland. A light SE wind.
