Wind Gusts

The wind this morning caused tree damage all over the Boston area.  Wind gusts to Hurricane force in some areas also caused power outages in the area. Now, colder air has come into the area with more wind. Temps this weekend will drop to normal winter levels. Also, some snow is likely on Sunday.

Saturday: Sunny with highs in the low 30's.

Storm Update

A strong cold front will come thru the area tonight with windswept downpours. Rain will last thru mid morning before ending. Then, sharply colder air will come into the area for the afternoon. Temps will remain near normal thru the weekend with a chance of snow on Sunday.

A High Wind Warning is in effect until 9 AM Thursday for all of MA!


Boston forecast:

Tonight: Scattered showers this evening, then showers with isolated thunderstorms after midnight. Very windy with a low of 55. South wind of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH.

Thursday: Showers with scattered thunderstorms in the morning, then increasing sunshine in the afternoon. Temps near 55 in the morning will fall to 40 by 4 PM. SW wind of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH in the morning, then shifting to NW at 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH in the afternoon.

Thursday night: Clearing and colder. Still windy with lows in the upper 20's. NW wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH.

Friday: Mostly cloudy with a snow shower possible. Highs in the mid 30's .

Warm Wednesday

A warm front will charge thru the area tonight leading to a spring like Wednesday. Under cloudy skies temps will soar well into the 50's. Then a cold front will come thur with windswept rain overnight Wednesday night. Temps will be back to near normal by the weekend.

 A High Wind Watch is in effect for the Boston area.

Boston Forecast:

Tonight: Low clouds and fog with scattered rain showers, mist and drizzle. Temps near 34 this evening will rise to 40 by Daybreak.

Wednesday: Cloudy and windy. High 57. South wind of 10-20 MPH in the morning will increase to 15-25 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH in the afternoon.

Wednesday night: Showers in the evening, then showers with scattered thunderstorms after midnight. Very windy with lows around 50. South wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH.

Thursday: Rain ending early, then clearing. Temps near 50 in the morning will fall to 40 by afternoon.

Friday: Mostly cloudy with a snow shower possible. Highs in the low 30's.

Wild Week

A warm front will struggle to come thru the area over the next couple of days. But, it will eventually come thru Tuesday night. allowing temps to rise to near 60 by Wednesday! Then a sharp cold front will come thru the area on Wednesday night with possible thunderstorms! Temps will then crash back to near normal by Friday.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Boston area until 6 AM Tuesday.

Boston forecast:

Tonight: Scattered snow, freezing rain and sleet. Temps nearly steady around 30. SE wind around 10 MPH. Little additional snow and ice accumulation.

Tuesday: Cloudy with fog, mist and drizzle. High 37. SE wind around 10 MPH.

Tuesday night: Low clouds and fog with temps rising into the 40's.

Wednesday: Mainly cloudy and windy. Very warm with highs in the upper 50's! South wind increasing to 15-25 MPH.

Wednesday night: Downpours with scattered thunderstorms! Very windy with lows around 40.

Back At PSU

I have returned to PSU for another semester. I plan on continuing the blog and will write as often as I can.  As for the current weather a warm front will come into the area on Monday night with snow and mixed precip ahead of it. The rest of the week will feature up and down temps with a chance of rain on Wednesday night.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy and very warm. Highs in the mid 50's. Rain is likely at night.

Snow Update

Periods of snow will fall in and around Boston tonight coating the ground. Saturday will be partly sunny and still chilly. I am returning to PSU for my spring semester on Sunday and temps will rise well into the 20's. Another storm is possible by late Monday.

Tonight: Snow showers. Low 15. NW wind of 10-15 MPH. A coating or so of snow is likely.

Saturday: Partly sunny. High 25. NW wind of 15-25 MPH.

Saturday night:  Clearing with lows around 10.

Sunday: I return to school!. Sunny with highs in the upper 20's.

Monday: A storm is likely in the afternoon. Highs around freezing. Stay tuned!

A Miss

 The storm on Friday will track well south of the area meaning mostly a miss for the Boston area. Some snow showers are possible overnight Friday night with very little accumulation.  Saturday will be windy and cold. but not as cold as its been. My return to Plymouth, NH on Sunday will be cold as well.

Track Shift

Thursday will be another very cold day with highs staying in the teens with a gusty wind. Friday will be another cold day, but not quite as cold. Then a developing storm will pass south of the area Friday night. The latest track has shifted further south, meaning most of the heaviest snow will miss Boston. Stay tuned for more updates!

Arctic Air

Arctic Air will continue to come into the area over the next few days. Temps will only reach the teens the next couple of days and wind chills will remain near or below 0. On Friday evening a storm will pass to our south likely leading to a snowstorm. At this point several inches are likely.

Snow South

A storm will pass south of us tonight leading to snow south of Boston. However, some flakes are possible are possible in Boston. Friday will be very cold with highs in the 20's. On Saturday temps will rebound into the 40's with some sun. The Pats game on Sunday will be very cold and windy as another Arctic front comes thru.

Tonight: Cloudy with scattered snow showers. Low 17. NE wind of 10-20 MPH. Dustings are possible in and around Boston

Friday Sunny and cold. High 25.  NW wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH.

Friday night: Mostly cloudy with lows around 20.

Saturday: Partly sunny and warmer. Highs in the mid 40's.

Sunday: Mostly sunny with highs in the upper 30's. Temps near 30 for the game along with a strong wind.

MLK Day: Sunny and very cold. Highs in the mid 20's.

Snow Totals

Thursday will be a winter day with sunny skies and a brisk wind. On Thursday night a storm will pass well to our south which may lead to some snow showers here in Boston as the storm grazes us.
Over the weekend temps will rebound to near 40 before a serious cold front comes thru.

Tonight: Areas of mist, drizzle and flurries. Near steady temps around 32. West wind of 10 MPH.

Thursday night: Increasing clouds after midnight, then snow showers after midnight. Lows in the low 20's. Snow may coat the ground in and around Boston.  Stay tuned!

The first flakes will start flying around 3 AM or so and continue into the morning drive. Snow will begin to mix with rain by mid morning and should change to rain by noon. Precip should wind down by mid afternoon. Quiet weather will last thru the weekend with temps around normal.

Snow Wednesday

Colder air has come into the area after a cold front passed thru this evening. Tuesday will be colder with clouds and temps near 40. Then low pressure will ride along a stalled front south of us giving us a wintry mix of precip. At this point a change or mix with rain seems likely in Boston, but it should stay snow NW of town.

Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy. Low 30.

Tuesday: Partly to mostly cloudy. High 40. NW wind of 10-15 MPH.

Tuesday night: Cloudy in the evening, then snow after midnight. Lows around 30.

Wednesday: Snow in the morning, then a mix of rain and snow in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 30's. Total snow amounts around an inch in Boston. Stay tuned!

Colder Week

Dense fog will hang tough tonight thru early Monday. A cold front comes thru temps will start to fall Monday night. On Tuesday a storm to the south may provide some snow showers south of Boston. Temps will hang in the 30's for most of the week-which is right near normal.

A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 9 AM Monday for the Boston area.

Boston forecast:

Tonight: Low clouds and dense fog with mist and drizzle.  Near steady temps near 48.

Monday: Low clouds with fog, scattered showers, mist and drizzle in the morning, then partly sunny in the afternoon. High 53, but falling to 45 by 4 PM. Wind shifting to NW at 10-20 MPH

Monday night: Becoming cloudy again with a snow shower possible late. Lows around 30.

Tuesday: Watching a weak storm-at this point a miss. Highs in the upper 30's.

Wednesday:  Some more precip is possible-depending on how close the storm comes.  Highs in the upper 30's.

Thursday: Partly sunny with a snow shower possible as another cold front comes thru. Highs in the 30's.

Friday: Sunny with highs in the 20's.

New England Weather: The warmest temp ever recorded in January at Mt Washington occurred today with a temp of 48!

Warm Weekend

 A warm front will come into the region tonight with rain showers. The front will hang around the area on Saturday leading to a mainly cloudy day, but temps will still rise into the 40's. The Warm front will finally cross on Sunday and temps will respond by rising well into the 50's. A cold front will come into the area on Monday.

Boston forecast:

Tonight: Rain showers. Near steady temps around 36.

Saturday: Cloudy with a shower, mist and drizzle. High 45. SE wind around 10 MPH.

Saturday night: Mostly cloudy with lows around 40.

Sunday:Mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 50's. Temps in the low 50's for the Pats gamed at 430. Go Pats!

Monday: Cloudy with rain showers possible. Highs near 50, but falling late.

A storm will come in from the west Friday evening leading to some rain showers. On Saturday temps will rise into the 40's to near 50 under mainly cloudy skies. For the big Pats game temps will be well into the 50's with a rain shower possible. A cold front comes thru on Monday.

Warm Weather

Temps will rise into the 40's the next couple of days. Thursday will be sunny, but on Friday a system will come in from the west leading to some rain showers. Over the weekend temps will soar well into the 50's with some clouds around. Temps for the Pats playoff game will be in the mid 50's.

SPECIAL: 2012 Year in Review

2012 was a really warm year with little snow. Spring started with temps in the 80's in March and it stayed warm throughout Spring. Summer brought some severe weather events, but no tornado outbreaks. Fall was marked by Superstorm Sandy along the East coast in October.

Sandy: Hurricane Sandy came up the East Coast and made landfall in NJ. It was a major storm  in all the East Coast Metro areas with the most damage felt in NYC.

Total Snow: 0.5 inches-about 1 inch below normal
Total Snow: 1.01 inches-about 3 below normal

2012 was the warmest year on record in Boston! About 3 deg above average.

The spring of 2012 was the warmest all time with a average temp of 54 deg. It beat out the record of 53.2 in 2010

The Winter was the second warmest on record with an avg temps of 38 deg

A weak front will cross the area in the morning leading to some scattered snow showers. In the afternoon temps will warm close to 40. Another cool front will come into the area late Sunday night with just a flurry. Monday will be chilly before a major warm up during the work week.
