Wet Friday

Models seemed to have come to a solution-sending the storm to our west. Meaning a soaking rain during the day on Friday. Temps will soar well into the 40's during Friday afternoon, but as the storm passes winds will shift bringing colder air back into the area. That may allow the rain to switch to snow breifly before ending. Another weak storm is likely on Sunday and it will be a snow event-but it won't amount to much. Yet another rainstorm is possible early next week.

Alerts: A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Northern New England, including here at PSU.

Boston, MA forecast:

Tonight: Clear and cold again. Lows near 20 in Boston, 17 in JP and 4 in the coldest towns.

Thursday: Sunny in the morning, then cloudy in the afternoon. High 42. South wind of 10-20 MPH.

Thursday night: Scattered snow showers in the evening, then a mix of rain showers and wet snow after midnight. Temps rising into the mid 30's by dawn. A coating of snow is possible.

Friday: Rain in the morning, then heavy rain with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Windy with highs in the mid 40's. SW wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH. 1-2 inches of rain expected. Urban flooding is likely, but rivers should not flood.

Friday night: Rain may briefly change to wet snow before ending in the early evening. NW winds gusting to 40 MPH. Lows around 20 by morning.

Saturday: Sunny with highs in the mid 30's.

Sunday: A weak storm will likely effect the area with light snow. Highs in the low 30's. A inch or 2 is possible.

Monday: Another rainstorm seems likely. Highs in the 50's.

  1. Do you think the rain will melt a lot of the snow? The piles are still ice-hard along the roads in Boston.

  2. Yes, I think a lot of the snow will melt tomorrow. There will be big puddles on roads, and there may be some basement flooding.
