First Snow

As I walked out of Meteorology class at noon today we got hit by a quick snow squall. The snow did not stick, but it briefly looked like a winter scene. High temps here at PSU only reached 40, and temps will drop to the mid 20's tonight up here.

In Boston, the wind will help keep temps from falling to freezing, but in the suburbs temps will drop into the upper 20's to low 30's. However, next week warm air will surge back into the NE as Temps will rise into the 70's, causing Indian summer!

Alerts: A Frost Advisory is in effect for the north and south shore.

Boston, MA forecast:

Tonight: Mostly clear and cold. Lows near 38 in Boston, 35 in JP and 30 in most suburbs. NW wind of 10-15 MPH.

Saturday: Mostly sunny and warmer. High 58. West wind of 15-20 MPH .

Saturday night: Clear, lows in the 30's.

Sunday: A sprinkle possible in the morning, otherwise mostly cloudy. Highs around 60.

Monday: Indian summer arrives! Mostly cloudy with highs in the low 70's!

Tuesday: Showers possible, but highs in the mid 70's!

Tropics: Richard now has winds of 45 MPH as it hangs in the Caribbean. It will effect Belize as a Hurricane this weekend.

  1. Wow, a snow squall - must've been so cool, we've never had that in Boston in October, have we? What's the snow prediction for this winter?

  2. Last year we had a Nor'easter and rain changed to snow over much of the area in late October. The earlest snow ever in Boston is Oct. 10th. But it is rare.

I will deliver my winter forecast for the Boston area after Halloween. Stay tuned!
