A nice week ahead

Today turned out to be a great day with mainly sunny skies and temps hitting 70 this afternoon. The dry weather will continue for the next several days. However, at night temps will fall into the 30's so some scattered frost is possible outside the city. With the beautiful flowers blooming, the pollen will remain sky high thru Thursday.

Boston, MA forecast:

Tonight: Clear and calm. Lows near 45 in Downtown Boston, 42 in JP and 37 in the coldest towns. Some scattered frost is possible well outside of Boston.

Monday: Sunny and nice, high 60. NW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Monday night: Clear, lows in the mid 30's.

Tuesday: Sunny, but a tad cooler. Highs in the mid 50's.

Wednesday: Sunny, highs in the mid 50's.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy with a risk of a shower. Cooler with highs around 50.

Friday: Cloudy with rain possible. Highs around 50.

Weather news: Boston has had only 2 days of high temps below normal since Feb. 8th! The normal high for Monday is 55, so another day above normal is expected.

  1. Following up on the comments of a couple of blogs ago, if a back door cold front is one that comes down from Maine, where does an ordinary cold front usually come from and what makes the back door front come from somewhere else?

  2. A normal cold front comes from the west or northwest. However, when high pressure is centered to the west of us, the flow around the high pressure brings the backdoor cold front from the NE or east. The winds behind a normal cold front are west or NW. However, with a back door cold front the winds are E or NE, bringing clouds and chilly air off the Atlantic, and into eastern New England Meanwhile, the rest of the east enjoys summer like weather. It happens most during the spring months, when chilly air is still stuck in SE Canada.
