Erin Impacts

 Erin is forecast to come up the coast and pass around 200 to 300 miles SE of Nantucket late Thursday or early Friday. That is close enough to bring some wind and high surf to the region. The highest gusts will be on the Cape and Islands, but even strong winds are likely in Boston. Stay tuned for exact details tomorrow!

Tracking Erin

 Cooler temps will come into the area thru Wednesday as we watch Hurricane Erin come up the coast. At this point it looks to stay far enough east of SNE to just bring some showers and a gusty wind. However, just a small change in the track could change the forecast. And Erin will make its closest pass to the region on Thursday. Stay tuned for more track updates!

Hurricane Erin

Hurricane Erin now has winds of 150 MPH, making a strong Category 4 Hurricane this evening. It is now located near Puerto Rico as it continues to head west. Thel latest track sends it relatively close to the East Coast making a close pass to New England by Thursday as a Major Hurricane. Stay tuned for more track updates as we get closer!

 The heat will continue to build over the next several days. As temps will soar well into the 90's along with some humidity. The hottest days appear to be Tuesday and Wednesday, before a cold front arrives by Thursday with a low chance of storms.

Storms Update

 Storms will continue overnight as a front comes through.  Wednesday should feature a lot of clouds but not much in the way of rain. It will turn hot again along with more scattered storms for Thursday before a comfy and breezy July 4th Holiday.

Tonight: Showers with thunderstorms. Muggy with a low of 72. SW wind of 15-25 MPH. 

Wednesday: Mainly cloudy with a passing shower in the morning, then partly sunny in the afternoon.  Becoming less humid with a high of 87. SW wind of 10-20 MPH. 

Wednesday night: Clearing with lows in the upper 60's. 

Thursday: Partly to mostly sunny with scattered PM storms. Highs around 90.

4th Of July. Sunny and cooler. Breezy with highs around 80.

Scattered Storms

 A strong cold front will bring scattered showers and storms to the area on Tuesday. It should dry out for the middle of the week and the 4th of July looks great as well.

Tonight: Scattered showers late. Low 68. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Tuesday: Partly sunny with scattered showers and thunderstorms. High 92. SW wind of 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH. Some storms will bring damaging winds and heavy rain.  Heat index values up to 100. 

Tuesday night: Scattered showers and storms continue. Muggy with lows in the upper 60's. 

Wednesday: Areas of clouds in the morning, then mostly sunny in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 80's. 

Thursday: Partly sunny with a passing shower. Highs in the mid 80's. 

4th of July: Sunny and breezy. Highs around 80.

The Week Ahead

 Monday will be another sunny day along with warm temps. A strong front will bring scattered severe storms on Tuesday afternoon. And it will remain warm thru the end of the week and the 4th of July on Friday looks pleasant at this early stage.

Tonight: Partly cloudy with fog late. Low 65. 

Monday: Any fog leads to mostly sunny skies. Highs near 83 in Boston and 90 inland. SE wind of 10-20 MPH. 

Monday night: Partly to mostly cloudy with lows in the upper 60's. 

Tuesday: Partly sunny with a passing shower in the morning, then mostly cloudy with scattered showers and severe thunderstorms in the afternoon. Humid with highs around 90. 

Wednesday: Sunny with highs in the upper 80's. 

Thursday: Showers and storms likely. Highs in the mid 80's. 

4th Of July: Sunny with highs in the low 80's. 

Tropics: TS Barry has formed in the Gulf and will track towards Mexico as a weak TS bringing flooding rains to that area.  I am also watching a cluster of storms near Florida that may develop over the next several days.

 Cooler temps will finally come into the area along with a chance of rain. As temperatures will be held in the 60's over the next few days. It may warm up yet again early next week.

Extreme Heat Warning

The next few days will be very hot and humid leading to dangerous conditions. The peak of the heat will be on Tuesday as temps could eclipse 100 degrees-even in Boston!  And with high humidity factored in heat index values could be as high as 110! Please remember to take it easy over the next couple of days. The heat will finally break by Thursday.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for most of MA thru Tuesday. 

Boston forecast:

Tonight: Partly cloudy with a low of 70. 

Monday: Mostly sunny with a sea breeze. Highs near 88 in Boston and 97 inland. SE wind of 10-20 MPH. Heat index values as high as 105 inland. 

Monday night: Clear and stuffy. Lows in the upper 70's. 

Tuesday: Sunny and very hot. Highs around 102! Heat index values as high as 110 expected! 

Wednesday: Sunny and turning cooler. Highs in the upper 80's early will fall to 80 by the end of the day. 

Thursday: Showers likely. Much cooler with highs around 70.

Friday: Temps could fall as low as the 60's along with showers.

Extreme Heat Ahead

 Saturday will finally be dry along with temps in the 80's. Then high heat and humidity will come into the area for several days. The peak of the heat will be on Tuesday as high temps could surpass 100 degrees! And the heat index could approach 110.

 After a quiet and cold Wednesday a storm will impact the region on Thursday. It will bring our first messy storm in a while with snow changing to sleet, freezing rain and probably plain rain before ending. Snow will fall heavily for a few hours in the midday before any changeover. That will lead to several inches of snow and slippery travel. Temps should reach above  freezing by the end of the day.

US Weather: Historic snowfall is occurring along the Gulf coast. Several inches of snow has been reported all over the southern states. And, over a foot of snow has now fallen in New Orleans. As Winter Storm Warnings have been issued as far south as central Florida.
