SPECIAL: 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season Forecast

 This is my annual Hurricane Season Forecast for the Atlantic Basin. It is a new decade, so the averages have been updated. I expect this season to be another very active and impactful season with above average storms and landfalls on the both the Gulf and East coasts. Here in New England we had 2 Tropical Storm impacts last year and I think we have an average chance of a Hurricane landfall this year. 

Review of Facts: 

A Tropical Storm (TS) needs winds of at least 39 MPH to be named. 

Hurricane Categories:

Category 1: Winds of 74-95 MPH

Cat 2: Winds of 96-110 MPH

Cat 3: 111-129 MPH ( Major Hurricanes are Category 3 and higher) 

Cat 4: 130-155 MPH

Cat 5: Winds of 156+ MPH

Current Outlook; Watching a chance of a storm in the next week or so in the Gulf Of Mexico 

Boston forecast: 

Tonight: Showers with scattered thunderstorms. Near steady temps around 50. NE wind of 15-25 MPH. 

Memorial Day: Showers in the morning, then mostly cloudy in the afternoon. High 60. NW wind of 15-25 MPH. '

Monday night: Partly cloudy with lows in the low 50's. 

Tuesday; Mostly sunny with highs in the mid 70's. 

Wednesday; Sunny with highs around 80. 

Thursday; Rain possible. Highs in the 80's. 

Friday; Showers likely. Highs in the 70's. 

Nor'easter Update

 A nor'easter will continue to impact the region over the weekend. On Saturday heavy rain and strong winds will occur. After a short break in the rain more rain is now expected on Sunday. Some drying is possible by Memorial Day.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Cape and Islands for Saturday.

Tonight; Heavy rain. Near steady temps around 45. NE wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH. 

Saturday; Heavy rain in the morning, then showers in the afternoon. High 50. NE wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH. Total rainfall of 2-3 inches. 

Saturday night: Scattered showers, mist and drizzle. Lows in the mid 40's. NE wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH.
 

Sunday; Rain. Highs in the mid 50's. 

Memorial Day: Showers likely early with some drying late. Highs in the low 60's. 

Tuesday; Sunny with highs in the 70's.

A Wet Weekend

 A nor'easter will bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the area this weekend. On Friday rain will hold off until the evening. The rain will fall. heavily at times, overnight and into Saturday. More rain is expected by late on Sunday. 

Boston forecast: 

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with a low of 52. 

Friday   Increasing clouds until 5 PM, then rain. High 60. NE wind increasing to 10-20 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH. 

Friday night Heavy rain. Windy with lows around 50.. NE wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH. 

Saturday; Rain. Highs in the low 50's. NE wind of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH. 

Saturday night: Low clouds, fog, mist and drizzle. Lows in the mid 40's. North wind of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 35 MPH. 

Sunday; PM Rain. Highs in the low 50's

Memorial Day; Rain probable. Highs in the upper 50's.. 

Tuesday; Clearing with highs in the 70's.

Scattered Storms

 Wednesday will be hot and humid day before the cold front arrives. The front will bring scattered severe thunderstorms to the area in the evening. The storms could bring damaging winds, hail and even an isolated tornado. 

Boston forecast; 

Tonight: Partly cloudy with a low of 60. 

Wednesday: Hazy, hot and humid until 4 PM, then scattered showers and severe thunderstorms. High 92. SW wind of 15-25 MPH. Some storms may bring damaging winds and hail. 

Wednesday night: Scattered showers and severe thunderstorms in the evening, then clearing late. Lows in the low 60's. 

Thursday ;Sunny with highs in the low 80's 

Friday :Rain and wind likely. Much cooler with highs around 60. 

Saturday; Rain possible. Highs in the mid 50's. 

Sunday; More rain possible. Highs around 60. 

Memorial Day; Showers possible. Highs in the 60's.

The Week Ahead

A much cooler Monday is in store along with a breeze. It start to rebound on Tuesday before heat and humidity return for the middle of the week.

Tonight: Clearing with a low of 52.. NE wind of 15-25 MPH. 

Monday; Mostly sunny and breezy. High 70. NE wind of 15-25 MPH. 

Monday night; Clear with lows around 50. 

Tuesday; Sunny and breezy. Highs in the mid 70's. 

Wednesday; Hazy, hot and humid with thunderstorms possible. Highs in the low 90's. 

Thursday: Sunny with highs in the 70's

Friday; Showers possible. Highs in the 70's.

Weekend Forecast

 Saturday will be a warm day along with more clouds and a passing shower or storm. Then Sunday will be hot along with humidity and a better chance of thunderstorm. Cooler air will come in on Monday.

Tonight; Mostly cloudy with a low of 62. 

Saturday; A mix of sun and clouds and a passing thundershower. High 87. SW wind of 10-20 MPH. 

Saturday night: Mostly cloudy with lows in the mid 60's. 

Sunday; Partly sunny with scattered severe thunderstorms in the afternoon. Humid with highs in the low 90's. 

Monday; Mostly sunny and cooler. Highs around 70. 

Tuesday; Sunny with highs in the 70's. 

Special Tropical Update; Watching a cluster of storms NE of Bermuda is expected to develop over the next day or so and track SW towards the Island. Then is expected to race northeastward and head out to sea Stay tuned! 

A Sea Breeze

 A sea breeze will  keep coastal areas cooler on Thursday along with sunny skies. It will warm up again on Friday. Showers and storms are then possible over the weekend as a cold front comes through.

Thursday;  Mostly sunny with a sea breeze. Highs near 70 in Boston and 83 inland. SE wind of 10-20 MPH. 

Thursday night: Partly to mostly cloudy. Lows in the mid 50's. 

Friday; Partly sunny with highs in the low 80's. 

Saturday; Showers possible. Highs in the low 70's. 

Sunday; Showers and storms possible. Highs in the 80's. 

Special Tropics Update; Watching a cluster of storms near Bermuda that may develop over the next few days.

 The warm weather will continue along with some sun.  As temps will rise well into the 80's and it will remain mostly dry.

Weekend Update

 A stellar weekend is in store with sunny skies and nice temps. It may reach 80 degrees in parts of the area on Saturday before a chance of a shower by Sunday. A better chance for showers will occur on Monday.

Saturday; Mostly sunny and warm. High 78. SE wind of 10-15 MPH. 

Saturday night: Clear with lows around 50. 

Sunday; Mostly sunny in the morning, then a mix of sun and clouds with a passing shower or storm in hte afternoon. Highs in the mid 70's. 

Monday; Showers possible. Highs around 70. 

Tuesday; Showers likely. Highs in the 70's. 

A Wonderful Weekend

 The nice weather will continue over the next few days. Although a brief isolated afternoon shower is possible, most of the time will be warm and dry.

Friday ;Sunny in the morning, then a mix of sun and clouds in the afternoon. High 75. SW wind of 10-20 MPH. 

Friday night: Clear with lows around 50. 

Saturday; Mostly sunny with a passing afternoon shower. Highs in the upper 70's. 

Sunday; Sunny with highs in the mid 70's. 

Monday; Sunny with highs in the 70's 

Dry Times

 The nice weather will continue over the next few days as High Pressure stays in control. By the weekend some showers or storms are possible, but it will not be a washout.

Nice Days

 The next few days will be nice with sunny skies and comfy temps. As High Pressure will take control for the rest of the workweek.

 An area of low pressure will bring rain overnight into Monday morning. By Monday afternoon some sun is likely. And some more showers are likely later in the week.

Monday; Showers until 9 AM, then decreasing clouds. High 58. NE wind of 10-20 MPH.

Wednesday; Showers possible. Highs around 60. 

Thursday; More wet weather possible. Highs in the 60's.

Friday; Watching a coastal storm. Highs in the 50's. 

Mother's Day Forecast

 Mother's Day will start out nice with sun before clouds increase in the afternoon. The clouds will lead to rain by nightfall and into Monday morning.

Mothers' Day; Mostly sunny in the morning, then increasing clouds in the afternoon. High 67. SW wind of 10-20 MPH.

Monday; Showers in the morning, then mostly cloudy in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 50's. 

Tuesday; Sunny with highs in the 60's .

Rocket headed towards Earth: Part of a Chinese rocket has apparently crashed on Earth near the Indian ocean. 

Weekend Forecast

 A nor'easter will head out to sea on Friday, but it will bring clouds and an onshore flow. Saturday will be cool before a nice mother's day.

The Sun Returns

 The sun will finally return on Thursday along with temps in the 60's. Friday now looks dry as well before scattered showers on Saturday. And Mother's Day looks great also.

Thursday;  Mostly sunny and breezy. High 65. NW wind of 15-25 MPH.

Wet Wednesday

 Yet another low pressure will bring rain to the area on Wednesday. However, skies will clear for Thursday and the nor'easter looks to head out to sea this weekend.

Saturday: Showers possible. Highs in the mid 50's.

More Wet Weather

 The front stalled over the area will continue to lead to periods of rain over the next few days. But by Thursday skies should clear before we watch a nor'easter by the end of the week.
