SPECIAL: 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season Forecast

This is my forecast for the upcoming Hurricane season. The season lasts from June 1st through November 30th.

Note: Scroll to the end to see my latest forecast.

Review Of Facts:

A Tropical Storm (TS) needs winds of at least 39 MPH to be given a name

Hurricane Categories:

Cat 1: Winds of 74-94 MPH.

Cat 2: Winds of 95-110 MPH

Cat 3: 111-130 MPH.

Cat 4: 131-155 MPH.

Cat 5: 155+ MPH.

Note; The NHC (National Hurricane Center)  issues a 5 day forecast cone with positions and winds of the storm. I will be using their forecast on my blog.

New England Review;

Last season most storms stayed to our SE and did not effect the area. The last Hurricane to hit was Hurricane Bob in 1991. The last Tropical Storm to effect the area was Hannah in 2008.

Atlantic Hurricane Season Averages:

Total Storms: 12 Storms
Hurricanes 7
Major Hurricanes: 3
US Landfall: 3

2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season Forecast:

Total Storms: 15
Hurricanes : 10
Major Hurricanes: 5
US Landfall: 3

2016 Forecast of Tracks:

Storms early in the season will form near the US and will affect parts of the coast that way. Later in the season storms will form off the coast of Africa and cross the Atlantic and threaten the US.

New England Forecast;

Storms that form off the coast will need to be watched for tracking north and effecting us that way. So I believe that New England has an average chance of a storm this season.
